My 9yo thinks it's completely normal and is a bit sad that he can't feed his brother (although he doesn't seem so keen to help when I point out other things he could do!)

I will never understand why breastfeeding has to be such a contentious issue. It's just feeding a baby. I feel very different about my boobs whilst feeding. If my husband even so much as tried to touch them he'd get a slap. If he got the hump over that he'd get a divorce. The rest of society's feelings on the matter do not matter. My 5 year old dd and her cousin have been fascinated by watching me feed dd2. To the point that they decided to play 'mum and baby' and were pretending to feed each other under a blanket! Totally innocent and hilarious to see dd shout 'look mummy I'm booby feeding!' And then fall about in fits of giggles.

I agree that view is shocking but I also think breast feeding is sexualised to an extent in the (gutter) press - think the staged pictures of tamara eccleston and v secret models all professionally done up with silicon enhanced pert breast exposed and with the mother pouting at the camera again with surgically enhanced lips. You don't see the women in paddy fields who sling their boob over their shoulder as they are breastfeeding whilst working. Its just another example of how certain aspects of the media push a particular agenda. And then others take it and run with it.

Freud was rather bonkers with regard to his incest theories. I read that he found out many of his female patients had been sexually abused by their fathers, and because that scared him, and got him criticised by his male colleagues, he made up a theory to explain why the women were totally lying about it.
