AIBU?

AIBU to be annoyed: JoJo wellies last 3 weeks. Shop says they're not supposed to last...

Bought a £18 pair of JoJoMamanBebe wellies 3 weeks ago. By last weekend the sides had split on both boots (about 5cm long split) and water and sand were pouring into DS (3)'s wellies.

Previous JoJo wellies have outlasted 2 kids so I assumed this was a freak occurrence/materials issue. Returned them today, no receipt, shop lovely about exchanging them no problem - but then went on to admit there've been a number of similar returns and Head Office says they're "fashion boots" and not meant to be used seriously. If you want proper wellies you have to go to an outdoor shop apparently!

Given previous models lasted years, the price, and the fact that kids' wellies are going to get a hard time and should be designed for such use, AIBU to be shocked by Head Office's attitude? He's had them 3 weeks, but he's only worn them a few days within that... so basically I've bought £18 disposable wellies.

A warning: If your kids actually want to wear their wellies, you might want to avoid JoJo in future.

Hunters used to be manufactured in Scotland and were great. Then they went bust, got bought out by a Chinese company and now are shit. That's why your 10 year old ones are good.

I bought a pair of snow boots for dd from Joules' ebay outlet and say one of our snow holiday they split down the front. Stitched it, day two the second one split. Fucking frustrating. Emailed on our return, with pics, and got a refund processed the same day.

I wont buy them again, but I cant fault the response.

I'm on a few Jojo FB selling pages and have seen loads of similar complaints.

My DS got a pair of JoJo wellies in August for the new term at nursery and they were letting water in by the October break. Ridiculous, when you consider that he only ever wore them when he was out in the nursery garden digging in the mud and on rainy days.

I've had several pairs of Hatley wellies for DS. Really hard wearing and fab designs.

I hope Jojo are not going downhill as well. My baby is wearing his teenage brother's old stuff.

I bought DD a pair of green dinosaur wellies from Primark about 3 years ago. They've been passed down to DS and are still completely whole. If Primark can do it, more expensive shops should be able to manage!

Fashion wellies? For 3 year-olds?

My fat arse! Envy

DS goes to an outdoor nursery so has to have lots of waterproofs and I was told by the staff not to buy Jojo as they're not actually fit for use. So strange, why do it?! I like they're normal clothes

Shock My parents have a pair of my sister's wellies that served a total of 10 DC (3 DC & 7 DGC) & are still in one piece, after 45 years!

If they are disposable clothing, then they need a price that reflects that, and a description that acknowledges that.

Although I'm a little baffled by how you could sell footwear that you can't actually wear in your feet for more than 3 weeks?!

It's the whole 'fit for purpose' thing. You could argue a welly is a fashion welly therefore it can be leaky and not for rain or bad weather (as long as they advertised them as such)... but, a welly is still footwear, however 'fashionable', and it still needs to pass general definition of footwear, like, it can be worn for more than a few days, which it can't if the seams split.

They're clearly not stating anywhere that they're "fashion wellies", in fact their website talks about wellies you can splash in all day...

We've been through many JoJo wellies previously and all have lasted at least 1 child, frequently 2, so this is new. Someone else mentioned snow boots. DS lives in their snowboots all winter (the fully waterproof ones, not water resistant) and he's on his 3rd year now. 3 pairs, but only because his feet grew, and 1 pair have gone off to Syrian refugees.

I'd never spend more then £10-£12 on a pair of kids wellies.
We've got a 15 year old pair of Asda wellies that's gone through all 3 of my dds, handed down from my niece, originally bought from the charity shop for £2

You were mugged sorry.

I have only ever bought kids wellies from local supermarkets. No designer label or price tag (£18 for kids wellies!) but have never had any split or wear through despite them being passed round large extended family as outgrown and then returned for younger siblings as needed.

I've never minded paying that much as they've always lasted really well, and JoJo wellies are pretty standard around here - most kids have them (they have nice designs) and most JoJo stuff is really good (washes and wears well). However, in future I'll be taking people's advice and going to supermarkets or outdoors shops.

I got some joules wellies as a surprise gift, I avoided them myself due to their poor reputation but I have to say they have done well all winter and I can't fault them, with heavy use. I also used to have the amazing hunters of yesteryear, such a disappointment that they are now shite.

Aigle are good for adults (especially the insulated ones for sailing), but I'm not paying those prices for kids who outgrow them every few months.

That's really bad quality and poor customer service.

Try Polarn O. Pyret. //Www.polarnopyret.co.uk

Ffs hunters are the only ones that I have found that can fit my shapely calves. Don't tell me they are shit! I'll be gutted as they cost a fuck ton more than any welly should!

I also had to exchange dds blue dinosaur wellies after 2 month. Her old red dinosaur wellies are now on their third child so i think the quality has gone down.

In between the dino wellies i bought a cheap pair from mothercare. They lasted a week before we had to tape up the sides with gaffa tape. Which is why i went back to jojos thinking they would last.

It is so annoying! Dd cant stand the frozen and peppa pig style ones you get in supermarkets so havent tried those.

I reckon Trading Standards is the place to go. There is no justification for children's 'splashing all day' wellies breaking within three weeks. Not fit for purpose.
Complain and don't give up.

I miss the woollies wellies too!
