To wonder why parents run to the papers everytine their children are slighted!

Just seen another story which has made the national news about a 5 year old boy who had his water pistol taken off him by a postman whom he was soaking! His mother doesn't seem to take any responsibility for his actions instead running to the papers to complain about the postman!
( admittedly the postman swore at the child ) but still why make themselves look like the victims!

I'm Seeing these stories more and more lately and just do not get the furore around them!

The postie shouldn't have put it in his van but the little cherub was out of order.

It's ridiculous. If I was a postie and got sprayed with water by some random 5 year old I'd be annoyed too.

The child could have damaged the post as well I don't understand why the parents aren't talking more responsibility for their child's behaviour!

What a horrible family.

I hope they need to collect all their post from the sorting office for the next ten years.

Why don't so many parents take responsibility for their children's behaviour? Imagine they would have done the same if there post was wet 'omg irresponsible postie wet our mail' Ffs your child needs controlling.

I would have the hump too if I got soaked by a kid with a water gun and then had to do my work soggy and uncomfortable.
I would be mortified if I was the parent. Really, what the hell is wrong with some people?!

Artemisia you must be reading the mumsnet through the looking glass because I only see threads saying the opposite to this, i.e. "I told off a thug kid who was thumping mine and his Mum objected", cue 300 posts saying YANBU and the other mum was not parenting properly.

I read that article and completely agreed with the postman.

It's the "my precious snowflake is so special" generation and that woman is raising yet another spoiled, entitled little buggar.

Running to the papers just reinforces the child to think they can do no wrong. If a child sprayed water into my face whilst I was trying to do my job I would have done the same.

The same parents who go on Jeremy Kyle and parade their inadequacies. Their fifteen minutes of fame.

I see it all the time. No one seems to take responsibilty for their or their childrens actions.

Grrr! I hate precious little babies being allowed to do what they like.
Years ago, we had a kid on our street who had a BB gun and was shooting everyone. All day long. And those little balls bloody well hurt! Up close and they left a nasty bruise. He shot pets, adults, small children, cars and windows. Eventually someone grabbed it off him so he ran off to tell daddy. Daddy came storming out and asked why they had taken his gun. They told him what had happened and he simply took the gun back and smashed it to smitherines on the floor in front of his screaming boy. He then apologised to the people of the street.

Also surely any parent with a brain would think of the long term consequences for their child - no matter how his personality and behaviour changes over the next 15 years, it's likely that when he comes to secondary school/job hunting the first result for anybody that googles him will be newspaper articles About a tantrum he had has a toddler. Although I do think the postie was out of order. No 5 year old deserves to be called a fucking bastard if he did really say that. Along with taking the water pistol and binning it later - better to have handed it back as he was leaving with a warning that next time, if there was a next time, he wouldn't get it back.

Of course they're not. This is what most parents would do - well, maybe not smash the gun to smithereens in front of a screaming child, that seems a bit dramatic to me. But most people would apologise to anyone who'd been hurt or annoyed, take it off him and not give it back.

I really don't get it and I agree with the point about the embarrassment this child may face in the future due to the story being out there. The postman isn't allowed to deliver post in that street anymore!

Most people don't do it. Most people disapprove of it. Many people do things that I really don't get.
