To not get dd a birthday cake?

She's about to be 11. She hasn't been very well and has very little appetite Sad she doesn't like cake much anyway. I asked her what type of birthday cake she might like and she says she doesn't want one at all!

It feels a bit miserable not to get her one. Would you make one anyway? Or do you have any ideas for alternatives?

If she doesn't like cake, don't make her one. Otherwise you're making it about you and not her.

Does she like jelly and ice cream? It's the sort of food I could probably manage if I wasn't feeling well but that would feel like a treat, because no one ever bothers to make jelly and ice cream anymore!

I've never liked sweet things either. One of my relatives didn't either - the wedding cake was a stack of lovely cheese wheels (there was pudding at the meal for the sweet-toothed). Hope your DC loves her birthday.

Ah ok, scrub the chocolate sauce then!

My dh would love that pork pie idea Grin Might steal that for his birthday this year!

I always make a stack of american style pancakes for breakfast on birthdays and stick a candle in, then she could have toppings that she fancied x

Kids love the drama of the cake, and not so much the cake itself

2 of my 3 DC hate cake weirdos one always has a tray of rocky road, homemade by me. The other has a small Victoria sandwich type cake, just for candle purposes which the rest of the family who like cake, eatGrin

She doesn't like cake and she doesn't want any fuss.

Listen to her. It isn't about what you want.

justwait · 25/04/2017 16:41

She's getting ice cream and no fuss. I have listened.

DS has had donut cakes for years. I buy a box of 12 donuts and pile them up and put some candles in. It's what he wants and I'm happy to oblige 🍩🍩🍩🍩
