To be so annoyed that someone has found something of mine and not handed it in?

I mean, yes, I am. I know I am really but I'm so fucking annoyed.

In a shop right by the way out and dd was in her pushchair. There was one of those little car ride things by the exit so took dd out and the pushchair fell over. My bag was nearly - but not quite - zipped up as I'd just got my purse out and I presume this must have been when I lost the item as I hadn't taken it out anywhere since leaving home.

It's of no value to anyone else, although at first glance may appear to be a phone or MP3 style player. It is actually a self funded piece of medical equipment.

I'm so pissed off. This is proof if ever it were needed that karma does not exist. I've handed in everything I've ever found, right down to the £2.50 left behind change in a self serve last week.

Obviously it's my fault (and I'm cross at myself) but I'm also very cross at whoever has picked it up and kept it. It will go in a bin once they realise it is of no value to them. It happened right by customer services and the tills so would have been very easy to just give it in to someone.

Something like that could slide under something I would think. Are you sure it's not slid under a shelf or something?

Yes it was quite an open area as it was near the exit. It's actually carpeted there too. I've been back and checked! If it fell towards the pushchair It could have gone underneath it and I'd not have noticed as I pushed the chair away.

It might yet get handed in if the person who picks it up discards it somewhere other than in a bin.
I'd be kicking myself too, very unfortunate.

Do you have any insurance that might cover it? Home insurance can cover items away from home?

A young girl near us had a radio mike stolen out of her mums car because they thought it was something of value. They put out an appeal in the local paper but never got it back

I had my blood sugar monitor stolen (lifted out of my bag from a trolley) whilst pregnant (gd). It was on cctv. I thought i'd dropped it but the security guard was bored and reviewed the recording. Clear as day. They must have been really disappointed!

I lost my Fitbit at an airport last week, pretty sure I know exactly where and when but nobody handed it it. It wouid never occur to me to keep anything and I would be delighted to reunite a personal item with its owner. Shame there are some dishonest people around

Might they have cctv that would have covered the area? There was a woman who got done for picking up a £20 note in a shop recently - she was a regular and the manager recognised her - so you might be able to get someone to help you track it down.

Annoying as anything - check local Facebook selling pages as there is a trend for people to post lost items on there rather than handing them in at the location where they were found (there's another thread exactly about this btw).

There was a young lad I saw in a supermarket with his mates, pooling their pennies to get some pick n mix. The self serve machine had £50 cash back left in it. The lad looked around to see whose it was, couldn't see an immediate owner and...

handed it in to the cashier. She didn't thank him for it.
Queue anxious guy dashing in, realising he'd left it. The cashier handed it over realising why he'd dashed back in & said nothing of the lad. I felt sorry for him - he could've kept it, scarpered and not be caught.
He looked a little bewildered by it all, but as he left with his many friends and their tiny bag of pick n mix, I slipped him a tenner and just reassured him that good deeds do not go unnoticed - hoping to reinforce that honesty is the best thing to do even if others don't acknowledge it.
Hopefully someone honest found your property

I've had printed some tiny black stickers with surname and mobile number and put them on absolutely everything of value that goes out of the house- chargers; phones, gadgets. Over the years quite a few things have come back including a memory stick that I dropped in the road. Make it easy for people, is the theory.
This is after DH lost several mobile phones by just leaving them in cafes etc.

When DD2 was a baby, her taggy blanket with her name and date of birth on fell off in a Morrison's cafe. We didn't notice until the next day, when we realised we couldn't find it and it must have fallen off there as that was the last place we remember seeing it.

Nobody ever handed it in. I can only assume the cleaners threw it out, because what somebody would do with a personalised taggy blanket is anyone's guess. Still sad about it eight years later.

Did you ask the police if it had been handed in or just the shop? It may still turn up.Have a look on local facebook pages too. I often see lost items being reunited with owners on facebook.

Having read this I thought I'd ask for advise. We live in a village v day popukar with day trippers/walkers yesterday I found an iPhone 6 in the field where I walk my dogs. We were 30 m off the path as my friends dogs was eating a rotten carcas and grass is very long so it was luck I found it obviously I've no idea how long it's been there. I've brought home and tried to recharge it but the battery won't charge, what shall I do with it? Our nearest police station is 12 miles away so I don't particularly want to drive over specifically to drop it off I'm probably going near there at the end of the week. Or should I take it too a phone shop, (same place as the police station) or just bin it?

Hi eightlegstwotails, I would suggest maybe calling the police station (if you can) to let them know you have found it, and that you will drop it in later in the week when you are able to. You could also post on any local Facebook pages and say it will be at the Police station from... That way it will be the Police's responsibility to match it up with the correct owner and you will know that you have done your best.

I've had this recently. Left my phone in a cab, cab driver texted my mum from my phone but didn't leave a number. Hasn't handed it in to the police and hasn't handed it in to the cab office!! No idea who or where he is with my phone Angry

It's not a libre is it? Just a thought but if you give them a ring and plead your case, say it was stolen, they might send you a new one as without it, you can't purchase more sensors. Worth a try.
I've had one replaced for free before.
Or try one of the forums/FB pages, see if anyone has a spare?

It is a libre... annoyingly I'd just put a new sensor on too!

Thanks ladies, wasn't fishing for praise - i was a bit disappointed that the people who were involved in the situation didn't reinforce his good behaviour, which could make someone think "I'll not bother next time".

Don't get me started on people who put a picture of the item on Facebook to let the owner know. NO - hand it in!!
