London Marathon - I appear to have something in my eye

One of the runners started collapsing 200m from the finish. His legs were uncontrolled and he fell. Another runner stopped and picked him up and was pointing at the finish line and urging him on and between him and a marshall managed to get him to the finish line.

I must be hormonal or something, it was just so, so lovely.

Well done to all the runners today, especially my friends husband running in memory of their little boy. You are all bloody incredible.

Reaching for the tissues. Inspiring to see Matthew Rees.

IloveBanff · 23/04/2017 14:11

OK, I've been able to watch it on BBC. Amazing. Such selflessness and kindness from Matthew Rees and such courage and determination from from David Wyeth.

MycatsaPirate · 23/04/2017 14:16

Just saw some highlights and they showed a few others being helped over the line by other runners.

Just wonderful.

My faith in humanity is well and truly restored today.

Moving
You're up the road from me, was tempted to go and wave at people but DS is only 2 and would get very bored, very quickly Confused

IloveBanff · 23/04/2017 14:17

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to post a link for me IlsaLund.

MovingtoParadise · 23/04/2017 14:19

There were loads of children playing at the Road side (no barriers) MrsPringles all along Shooters Hill road. Not busy either and a fantastic atmosphere. See you there next year Grin

standingonlego · 23/04/2017 14:25

Our veteran parkrunner Gerald (79) is going brilliantly...half split time 2.27...ShockGrin.

MitzyLeFrouf · 23/04/2017 14:26

Oh that gave me a nice wave of emotion.

Well done Matthew Rees you kind (and handsome!) man. 💘

And well done other man for making it over the line against the odds!

MycatsaPirate · 23/04/2017 14:33

Wow! Go Gerald!! Amazing. I can barely get up the stairs some days.

My friends husband has finished. Now the race to get back up north before she gives birth.

Thank you for that link, just had something in my eye too. Must have been a fly going over. What a lovely story, amazing. This year more than most I seem to know so many people doing the marathon, it really is an amazing sight to see.

MrsPringles · 23/04/2017 14:36

Moving
Oh wow, that's convinced me! How lovely

BeyondUser24601 · 23/04/2017 14:38

Just watched the video, the poor man does look very poorly :( hope he's recovering now

Matthew Rees is rather easy on the eye... 😍

MrsPringles · 23/04/2017 14:42

Beyond
I was thinking that too Wink

RomanticWalksToTheFridge · 23/04/2017 14:46

Oneiroi · 23/04/2017 14:46

What a beautiful moment. The London Marathon makes me cry ever year, without fail!

Hulababy · 23/04/2017 14:49

AllTheWittyNamesAreGone · 23/04/2017 14:55

ladymariner · 23/04/2017 14:56

In tears watching the link, in tears watching all the runners and thinking of their reasons for doing it.....feeling very humble x

SumThucker · 23/04/2017 14:58

Crikey, I'm a right 'ard cow and I've just got a massive lump in my throat at that.

Lovely guy.

MitzyLeFrouf · 23/04/2017 15:04

beyond that's what I was thinking!!😍

I said it first therefore I have bagsied him. You can all clear off

BeyondUser24601 · 23/04/2017 15:12

He's just run 26 miles and is carrying someone across the finish line, I'm sure he's fit enough to cope with more than one of us! Wink

CosmoKlit · 23/04/2017 15:15

I know someone who is running with an incurable brain tumour for brain tumour research. He finished and with an awesome time (very close to good for age qualification). Cannot tell you how proud I am of him, how he's run, all his training and all his fundraising.

AntiHop · 23/04/2017 15:18

I saw that too. I also had something in my eye.

Monstermuncher · 23/04/2017 15:30

I love this and I also had a good cry. Did anyone watch the Nick Knowles show - Mind over Marathon? Its on iplayer and I really recommend it (you will need tissues though)

FruBayerischOla · 23/04/2017 15:31

I didn't have something in my eye.

I started full-on-welling-up-teary - as did a couple of my (male) friends who were watching it with me. We were all cheering for both of them.
