Pieceofpurple yes I would rather my daughter went to a decent state school. And no it's not because local schools are not any good. Did you miss the part where I said my son was in a state school? My sons both have autism. My eldest son went to various schools in the late 90's as I trawled around trying to find a school to help him. none of them could and in the end I took him out, gave up my job and taught him until 16. But he has no GCSE's and obviously did not get the full education he should have even though I did my best. In the meantime son number two 1 years later is diagnosed with autism. But schools have improved for autism and I have found a great school not outstanding but with a fantastic autism unit. He is in all the top classes and doing very well. Daughter however is not 'lucky' enough to have autism she only has sensory processing problems so no help from schools as she is not quite bad enough but plenty of punishment because she can't keep up and is disorganised. So choices again are she struggles and leaves school with nothing, I home educate again or a tiny school with 80 pupils 8 to a class and I work evenings as well to pay for it. I refuse to destroy another child of mines education until the system catches up. I waited too long for my eldest son I won't do that to her. Oh and I was the SEN governor of their primary for 4 years I helped the SEN staff fight for funding, it's not there for people like my daughter. I do hope that answers your question. Also I have voted Labour for the last 20 odd years so not not a Tory.

pieceofpurplesky · 23/04/2017 11:45

But enthusiasm surely you don't want another round of torries wrecking more public services and fuelling the rich.
Let's face it if the vote riggers that are under investigation were not allowed to stand May would not have called an election.

pieceofpurplesky · 23/04/2017 11:47

Deblet that's my point - you shouldn't have to pay

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 23/04/2017 11:51

And by supporting Tories so you can afford private school you are helping to make the system worse for those who cant afford it and have kids with SEN.

But hey its a dog eat dog world

Andrewofgg · 23/04/2017 11:52

It' not even a good idea. Better more leave days to take when people choose.

NoLotteryWinYet · 23/04/2017 11:55

It's a crap idea, why can't labour just focus on the NHS, benefits and education and not bollocks like this or re-nationalisation. And as for a socialist party going after another party for a 'tax bombshell', that'll backfire badly...

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 23/04/2017 11:56

Who says they aren't focussing on it.

PhilODox · 23/04/2017 11:59

Tuition fees? Labour introduced tuition fees, the fuckers.

They also brought in PFI contracts that are screwing over schools and hospitals up and down the country.- they began the privatisation of those sectors.

Vat on school fees? Cannot legally increase vat until we're out of EU, so that's a good few years off. How will he fund universal FSM in the state sector before then? Though i think it a collosal waste of money, when most do not need it and schools desperately need money to be used elsewhere.

I'm guessing franking upthread was fracking

Zero hours contract ban- absolutely- this should be a priority of every vaguely socialist party

Ditto bursary for NHS/teacher/sw training.

pieceofpurplesky · 23/04/2017 11:59

Rtt lottery the answers are all there including the manifesto - the Tory papers have just chosen to concentrate on one aspect

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 23/04/2017 12:03

I want a Labour Party who have the possibility to get into power or at the very least can hold the ruling party to account and provide an opposition they haven't under Corbyn they have utterly failed and it's down to him (and his supporters maybe that includes you) that May will end up with an even larger majority

To get Labour in power they need to appeal to centre voters (Corbyn not interested in these voters) one that appears professional and capable of dealing with real grown up politics (beyond his capabilities) and all the rest of the baggage that comes with Corbyn

Labour are utterly fucked under Corbyn but no doubt this is only part of the revolution plan Hmm

Lelloteddy · 23/04/2017 12:09

'Give a poor person £10 nd its going to be spent locally,'

Yeah cos 20 Lambert and Butler from Tesco is really supporting the local economy.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 23/04/2017 12:10

Gf

specialsubject · 23/04/2017 12:11

...why London? Because this kind of stupidity shows someone who doesn't notice weather and that shouts central London politician!

JustAnotherPoster00 · 23/04/2017 12:15

Yeah cos 20 Lambert and Butler from Tesco is really supporting the local economy.

The usual trope being wheeled out, well done, well done [slow clap]

51howdidthathappen · 23/04/2017 12:18

lelloteddy.
The working class are sick to the teeth of being sneered at, it is part of the reason so many have disengaged. Part of the Tory plan....

CopperRose · 23/04/2017 12:19

Yeah cos 20 Lambert and Butler from Tesco is really supporting the local economy.

It is though.

Nice big tax take on the cigarettes, and contributing to the footfall that necessitates the employment of the (presumably local) employees who are running through the sale/stocking the shelf/ordering them/unpacking them etc.

Biker47 · 23/04/2017 12:20

Get rid of tution fee's? Glad to know all the taxes I pay will be going to fund someones 4 year piss up studying something where there's zero prospect of a relative job at the end of it, you know, instead of asking them to contribute to that choice (currently in the form of a loan, which you pay back in real terms; of fuck all, and it gets wiped if you never pay it back after a certain ammount of time).

I don't think asking people to contribute to their optional education after their compulsory education has ended is that much of an ask, if I want to do educational or training courses relative to my industry and my job, to get further in my field, I have to cough up the cash, and I don't get the option of spreading it over 30 years with repayments tied into my earnings.

DJBaggySmalls · 23/04/2017 12:22

YANBU to think that Labour needs to offer a lot more than four additional bank holidays.
Fortunately as JustAnotherPoster00 listed, they are doing a lot more than that.

The Tories love to tax the poor, they put VAT up to 20%.
They also want to abolish the NHS. If you want rape and cancer victims to be bankrupted by medical bills then vote Tory.

bumbleymummy · 23/04/2017 12:28

If you want rape and cancer victims to be bankrupted by medical bills then vote Tory

Is this type of comment any better than the 20L&B one? Hmm

Biker47 · 23/04/2017 12:36

The Tories love to tax the poor, they put VAT up to 20%

In 2010 the tax free allowance was just shy of £6.5k, as of this month it's £11.5k set to go up to £12.5k by 2020, that's taken about 4 million people out of paying any income tax whatseoever. "Yeah Tories, fucking over the poor... by making them pay no income tax..."

That's without even mentioning the scrapping of the 10p tax rate, by Brown.

AllThePrettySeahorses · 23/04/2017 12:58

But that list of (potential) Labour policies is twaddle.

The right to education - do we not have that already?

Increase in carers' allowance - and radio silence as to whether the IS top-up will be maintained

National Investment Bank - just a £trillion money pit.

Renationalise railways - Miliband was persuaded to drop that due to its unpopularity

Government business contracts - cash flow goes both ways. HAving worked for a small company that won numerous government contracts, is the government going to pay within 30 days, or drag it out for 90 days as was often the case?

Tuition fees - the horse has bolted on this one. Most students don't even care any more.

Companies in tax havens - does this include Jersey?

Housebuilding - would have a lot more impact if Corbyn wasn't waffling on from a building site.

The whole list is full of leading questions to try to get people to agree with it, as well as plain, manipulative propaganda. Honesty from both sides would be appreciated.

Goldfishjane · 23/04/2017 13:13

Special, wtaf?

BillSykesDog · 23/04/2017 13:21

Could we not have them when it's hot?

BadKnee · 23/04/2017 13:26

It's a Labour-bashing thread by an OP who hasn't read the manifesto at all - but maybe the headline in the DMail?

Personally I hate Bank Holidays. I would rather have my time when I want it.

Squeegle · 23/04/2017 13:29

lelloteddy, you're really spoiling for a fight aren't you? I thought you were accusing the lefties of not being civil. I think we should be able to have a useful educational debate here. No reason why not, we're all wanting the same thing aren't we -a kind, caring society in which to live and bring up our families. Let's try a bit of the kindness here. No harm in that is there?
