Special wtf has London got to do with that idiotic set of dates?!

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 23/04/2017 10:18

I think we should get rid of all bank holidays

Silvertap · 23/04/2017 10:20

Ewan.

Great idea.

Whose going to help me feed my cattle, hens and sheep or harvest my corn on bank holiday August.

Or staff hospitals or police our streets.

Threes3 · 23/04/2017 10:23

Anything that benefits me I am all for!

Great idea

EsmereldaMargaretNoteSpelling · 23/04/2017 10:26

I'm a life long labour supporter but this sort of thing is going to bury labour for a generation. Wtf is Corbyn playing at, the fate of the country for the next decade is not a game, it's not a joke. Bank holidays ffs! He's got nothing more to think about than bank holidays?!

EwanWhosearmy · 23/04/2017 10:35

Silvertap who used to do all those things when BHs were properly recognised?

Cornettoninja · 23/04/2017 10:35

I don't think it's a great focus of a manifesto but I'm not adverse to the idea generally. I suppose national saints days are a good starting point and I'd love a November bank holiday.

Thinking about the march/april dates, I'm not too bothered about them being bunched up. Would make Easter childcare a lot easier...

I kind of presumed the bank holidays would be absorbed into the current statutory 28fte, so instead of 20 'bookable' days you'd get 16.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 23/04/2017 10:36

Its not the focus of the manifesto.

It was mentioned as its St Georges Day.

Lelloteddy · 23/04/2017 10:40

Ah yes. 4 more opportunities for the NHS to grind to a slow halt whilst the managers/admin and support staff take four more days off leaving a skeleton staff who won't be running outpatient or day services or performing elective surgeries.

Gotta love Jezza. Priorities eh?

Wonder how long it will take for this thread to degenerate into the usual vitriol from the left. Let's see if they can keep it civil for once Grin

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 23/04/2017 10:42

Its ok, it's still just full of vitriol from the Right.

emwithme · 23/04/2017 10:42

We don't need more bank holidays in March/April.

We really could use one in October - I propose Trafalgar Day to be celebrated on the last Monday of October so 99% of the time it will be in half term week (there's the odd year when 31 October is the first Monday back to school but not very often).

LovelyBath77 · 23/04/2017 10:46

Hmm. Gotta get their priorities right! Holidays over the importance stuff.

HoneyDragon · 23/04/2017 10:46

It's a nice idea but the people the pledge proposes it will help are the ones who will be contracted to work BH as their normal days.

And all the people with disposable income will expect to be able to spend it and not think twice about the poor sods paying out extra on childcare, transport to go to work on yet another BH for no extra pay or entitlements.

Sallystyle · 23/04/2017 10:49

Yes, because with that comment you have kept it very civil.

You righters are just full of civility aren't you?

Ferrisday · 23/04/2017 10:49

It's 4 days, it's not going to break the bank.
It's not going to suit everyone.
They are National days, so are set dates.
Other countries celebrate their National days
We have less bank holidays than most other countries.
It's not their whole manifesto.

Lelloteddy · 23/04/2017 10:49

No sign of vitriol, just lots of laughing and pointing Grin

Sallystyle · 23/04/2017 10:51

Hmm. Gotta get their priorities right! Holidays over the importance stuff.

They are focusing on holidays over the important stuff are they?

I thought it was something the papers decided to focus on today.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 23/04/2017 10:56

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin

No not right wing as many others are not but feel utter despair at the state of the Labour Party lead by Corbyn and co

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 23/04/2017 10:57

U2 has it

Rdoo · 23/04/2017 10:59

Lelloteddy
Yes, Labour's proposal of more bank holidays is the threat to the NHS, not the current Tory Government Hmm

pieceofpurplesky · 23/04/2017 11:00

Just more media spin from the Tory led papers. It was discussed as a means to unite the countries that are more divided than ever. Financial benefits outweigh losses (facts and figures on BBC news online).
Typical media to ONLY pick up on that one thing to make Corbyn look stupid.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 23/04/2017 11:03

And the silly sheeple are lapping it up

Moanyoldcow · 23/04/2017 11:03

Does nobody read the background? Reducing the IHT threshold and VAT on Independent School fees are just two ways he'll be raising money.

You might not agree with Labour or all of their policies but don't allow confirmation bias to cloud your judgement.

deblet · 23/04/2017 11:08

I watched him on the Andrew Marr show this morning. I still really want to vote for Dennis my local MP so gave Corbyn a chance this morning with an open mind. All I heard was he won't use nuclear weapons to defend us and he has no balls to negotiate Brexit. This is no longer a possibility in the future it is now! He should have gone onto that show this morning and given people like me something to vote for.More holidays would be lovely but I am not voting for that. I know now I will be voting for May and I am so bloody annoyed with Labour.

deblet · 23/04/2017 11:09

Oh yes and VAT on school fees when I already do two jobs to send my daughter to a little independent school. Another reason not to vote
