To stop wearing my wedding ring?

SofiaG123 · 21/04/2017 22:42

It's far too big. I've somehow managed to lose weight in my fingers without losing weight anywhere else! Lol.

I'm unsure if I should get it resized because I'm concerned that if I get it made smaller, in a few years I might have to get it made bigger and I don't want to damage my ring in the process.

Would it be bad of me to just pop them in my jewellery box for the time being? Or is that a silly idea?

Thanks :)

I nevertheless wear my wedding ring, it's only jewellery, just pop it away and see in a little while if it's worth getting it resized :)

I was just making do with them (wedding & engagement ring) being loose but they fell off in a ball pool the other day and I was very very lucky to get them back. Haven't put them back on since for fear of losing them.

Put them on a necklace if you want to keep wearing them?

SheepyFun · 21/04/2017 22:50

DH has lost quite a bit of weight since we got married (our diet now isn't amazing, but it's better than his was pre-marriage!), so doesn't wear his ring at the moment - it's too big. He's managed to convey his relationship status via the medium of verbal communication, and hasn't randomly ended up in bed with another woman despite not wearing a ring Wink I think it's fine!

GoneGirl1234 · 21/04/2017 22:50

Mine was too tight as have gained weight due to medical issues, I don't want to resize yet (would like to get medical stuff under control and lose weight!) so I bought a dead cheap one on eBay (it was something like £5.49!) to wear for the time being.
But if you'd rather not wear one at all that is completely your call, you definitely aren't being unreasonable.

I've got quite fat since I got married. I bought a cheap silver engagement and wedding ring from Amazon and hope I'll fit the real one soon.

People are dumb - they compliment my 'rock' all the time. It cost £10 Grin

JellyTeapot · 21/04/2017 22:54

My wedding and engagement rings are too big so I've started hinting to DH about an eternity ring to keep them from slipping off Grin

HappenedForAReisling · 21/04/2017 23:06

I don't wear mine.

AddToBasket · 21/04/2017 23:14

If I lose weight I wear mine on my middle finger.

I quite often don't wear my wedding ring. It feels really rebellious and exciting Grin.

I lost my engagement ring once. So stressful. Now I only wear it once or twice a year.

liquidrevolution · 21/04/2017 23:21

I never wear mine. In fact I think DD (2,9) has commandeered them as part of her pirate treasure Hmm. Will have to hunt them down and put them somewhere out of her reach.

There are several reasons for not wearing them.

  1. Annoying for my work. I am quite a manual person and dont want them to get damaged even though they are quite plain and simple in design. 2)fat fingers from pregnancy means I cant put them on for special occaisions like I used to
  2. I kind of dislike being categorized by the wearing of the rings to denote married woman. Its not that I dont want to appear married I just hate having to wear a ring to show it. Its all very complicated to explain Confused, I just feel uneasy.
  3. never liked my engagement ring. I hate solitares. In fact it was my third solitare engagement ring Blush. I had hoped my DH who usually picks garish colourful things would buy a ring with a coloured stone. It was muted that we restyle the ring after DD was born but since I dont like wearing the rings anyhow theres not really much point.

So all in all don't feel bad about not wearing yours. Buy a cheaper ring lik PPs have suggested if you want to.

liquidrevolution · 21/04/2017 23:22
  • mooted not muted. Stupid fat fingers.
Oddsocksforeveryone · 21/04/2017 23:32

In my last pregnancy my weight went up and down plus swelling so I bought several cheap rings in different sizes. They are all pretty different so it was fun to have a change. Plus I have a tendency to take them off when I wash hands or just randomly and leave them places, nearly lost my original engagement ring digging in a bargain box for wedding decorations.

notangelinajolie · 21/04/2017 23:46

After 27 years I've never ever taken my wedding ring off which in all fairness I couldn't get off now even if I tried I'm not sentimental though and pawned my engagement ring years ago when we needed money. In its place is a 1ct fake QVC solitaire Smile
OP could you buy a small ring that would stop your wedding ring falling off?

Elphame · 22/04/2017 00:36

I haven't worn mine for over 20 years now. My marital status is no ones business but mine and I don't like to be "branded". My husband doesn't wear a ring so I don't see why I should!

crazywriter · 22/04/2017 04:25

My rings are too small right now. I wear them around a chain instead so they're still with me and out of reach of my girls.

Devorak · 22/04/2017 05:01

I kind of dislike being categorized by the wearing of the rings to denote married woman. Confused

That would hold water if men didn't wear wedding rings.

I wear my engagement ring for special occasions but always wear my wedding ring. It is a little snug and does take some effort to get off. I had to take them off during pregnancy and bought a £20 replacement to wear. Got lots of compliments wearing it. I guess it would have been worth a fortune if diamond and platinum not aluminum and glass!

DH had his resized a few years ago. He was early 20s when we got married and decades later he's a bit bigger. The resizing cost 4 x the price of his ring (cheap). I'd be upset if he didn't want to wear it.

Wedding rings are a symbol of love and fidelity and a lovely symbol.

DoubleCarrick · 22/04/2017 05:13

Dh hasn't worn his since the day after our wedding and I haven't worn mine since I fell pregnant. If you aren't bothered then pop it away. If you are then it's the perfect excuse to go ring shopping!
