to be annoyed about the neighbour's dogs

Next door have 3 dogs, they got them all for Xmas. Now, whenever we try and sit in our garden, the dogs bark repeatedly. It's driving us mad because we have to put up with the incessant barking but then also with the shouts from their 3 children to the dogs to be quiet.

I have dogs myself and can't stand them barking so this would annoy me too.

My new neighbours brought yapper dogs with them.

They're quite small though and two of my cats are expert hunters so it's only a matter of time...

The dogs are barking because they think you are on their territory :( Ours used to bark at people leaning out of their windows who backed on to us and my BFs dog barks like crazy whenever in the garden too ,(terraced house so narrow garden) In the end she had to get him professionally trained to stop barking but THREE dogs, you have my sympathy! Flowers

Repeatedly shout "be quiet" each time they bark. We had the same with next door. They still bark incessantly when I go to the front door or we have visitors but I think I have embarrassed the neighbours into bringing them in from the garden when we're out there. Why should I put up with them yapping and throwing themselves at the fences every time, and it was every time, that we went into our garden? Don't get me started on the time they chewed through the fence and ended up in my kitchen...it was so tempting to usher them out the side alley and say nothing...

If they would agree to being the dogs round into your garden one by one to say hello, the'd quit barking at you.

That sounds very annoying. The dogs are territorial, they think you're in their territory. I've got the friendliest, sloppiest little spaniel but she would do the same thing, and at people going past the window sigh. I get her in when she starts at the neighbours.

Can you talk to yours? Maybe ask them to call the dogs in when they kick off? Also getting to know the dogs may help, giving them treats (with permission) so they see you as a friend and not a threat?

I have a dog but that would drive me crazy. I would either speak to the family (if I thought they would be reasonable) or just make a noise complaint.
If the dogs bark they should only be outside on a lead so they can be corrected or brought back inside. Shouting at them won't do a bloody thing. (I know. My old neighbour would just shout at her barking dog. Which ignored her!)

We have this next door and next door to them too. Directly next door bark at me any time I go out front or back, and two doors down just turf their dog out and leave it to bark for 10/15 mins at a time. Drives me nuts Angry.

Our neighbours leave their dog in a kennel outside all day and he whines and cries so not as bad as barking but it it's still annoying and makes me feel sorry for it when we are sitting outside.

Yes 3 dogs - one each per child as their Xmas present. We've seen the dogs many times and the front and they run up to us to be stroked so no idea why they are so noisy in the garden. The neighbours know because they will repeatedly say to them to be quiet.

Five small yappy mutts next to us. One vocal lab over the back and one terrier ndb1. We cannot fart in our garden without setting them off. Drives me nuts.

DEFRA have a leaflet online with information on why dogs bark and how to stop it, and it also makes it very clear what is acceptable. This isn't.

Start with a polite word. That will almost certainly be a waste of time so then begin a council complaint.

Three dogs for Christmas. Fuck me they're twats. Give it a few months and they'll be shipped off to the dogs home when they get bored and get fed up of the barking. Clearly no training going on or they'd have some semblance of control and responsibility. It's dog 'owners' like this that give the rest of us a bad name.

I think you're going to have to speak to them. Suggest some training.

Consider yourself lucky! In my last rented property the neighbours dogs were similarly yappy and we're left to run free around the estate. They were able to enter other people's gardens and would bark and shit. They'd also come inside if you left the door open.

I probably ought to have reported them but felt bad because it was the only exercise those dogs got.

I'll get one of those and put it through their door. And maybe a large water pistol for the owners. Failing that I'll talk to them, I just wondered if as a non-dog owner I was being unreasonable. It's got to the point where I nearly loudly said to shut that **ing dog up tonight when I went out to, errm, relax in the garden.

But also far too chilly to be outside relaxing tonight. Huddle in your smoking jacket by the back door instead. Unless you have a hot tub - when anything is fair game

My dog barked at the neighbours when we very first got him. Luckily I'm good friends with my neighbour and once he trusted and liked her there's been no problem. Agree with PP. If you are on friendly terms ask if she would bring them round to meet you. They shouldn't bark once they know you.

Seriously though, speak to the owners and say it's just not acceptable and if they carry on get a recording of a bigger dog barking and play it at full volume right after their kids go to bed. They'll soon get your point
