To join a business startup

My idea with this isn't really to do with selling the products on. But I like the products myself. So rather than keep ordering the products at full price WIBU to become a 'consultant' and have one 'customer' i.e. Me?

Do you order very large quantities of whatever this product is?

Will there be immense and non stop pressure for you to recruit more consultants below you? A la Younique etc?

Is this forever living juice plus Herbalife or some other pyramid scheme mlm.?

I'm not totally sure although you do get a number of products when you pay to start up. But I think you might order products yourself for your 'shop' but then mine isn't a shop! I guess it might be worth asking?

It's not Younique or any of the other well known brands - don't like them anyway. As far as I know there's no pressure but there might be.

Do you use all the items in the start up kit?
Will your up line be happy for you to do this and not sell more product/bring in more consultants? (Ie make them more ££)

I really don't think it's like that - don't get the impression but I could be wrong. It seems more along a vegan/cruelty free sort of shop.

Often these companies have a minimum order amount over a time period to stay 'active' so it would be worth checking that or ordering everything you need at reduced rates during the first three months

I know quite a bit about these types of schemes. The products are often low quality and high price. You may not be getting a good deal at all by joining for a discount. These companies always look reasonable and respectable at first but they can slowly slowly suck you in until you start losing serious amounts of money. If the company is a MLM I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Check out the long running thread on the Money Matters Board about MLMs.

It is likely to be a MLM tbh, but what the OP describes is known as 'kitnapping' I think! Where you buy the starter pack for the reduced price products, I've had friends who do MLM try to get me to do this.

If MLM you are likely to lose friends.

Why hasn't the OP said the name of the company?

I know people who do this with Neals Yard products. It's easy to then feel tied to the brand, buy all presents and products from the same brand etc which could mean you don't try other things or end up spending more than you would otherwise on that brand (become a brand bore) but if you already but the products and you can cope with the encouragement to buy more...

I guess it could work.
Put it all into a spreadsheet: starter kit price, products prices, what you currently buy etc.

Is there a min order amount each month? And what happens if you don't reach it?
Oh and check the t&c for when you want to get out, do you have to pay something?

I don't want people to think I am trying to push it on them?

I have a friend that is a consultant with Neals Yard, and has tried to sign me up in the same way.

1. they do cheap joining offers every now and then, wait til they have one
2. she says there is no pressure to sell, you have to spend I think £80 in one month, once per year to stay on.

I decided against it as I mainly use just one product and would have to buy three at once to get to over £80, but if you'll spend that once per year its worth doing.
