AIBU to be pleased for her?

Unless being a role model means bagging yourself a footballer. Her fame would have soon sunk if she hadn't met DB. She hardly came from a poor family either. I'd hate to bring up a daughter who obsesses as much about image as she does.

A1Sharon · 19/04/2017 18:41

Here is a link to DB and his Knighthood going down the pan.

I can't find the link of VB leaving the hotel, it's hilarious, I'll keep looking.

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 19/04/2017 18:48

Actuallly the Spice Girls and girl power did empower me. They're the first band I really remember, growing up in SE Asia, (aside from The Beatles from my dad) and their overriding message was girl power and friendship. You don't have to like her, her family, or fashion business, but I think writing her off as nothing but someone's wife is not quite fair.

zeezeek · 19/04/2017 19:07

Well, people get them for doing much less so can't get worked up about an individual case.

The whole Honours system is complete bollocks though - same as the Oscars, BAFTAs and all the other award ceremonies where celebs kiss the arse of other celebs. And as a Republican I firmly stick the Royals in the pointless celeb category.

I was offered an OBE once and turned it down. My mother was devastated. In her narrow minded, snobby little world that meant more than the PhD I actually worked my arse off for.

savedbythebell · 19/04/2017 20:42

In what way did they empower you boyfromthebigbadcity?

nothercupoftea · 19/04/2017 20:57

What is interesting with Victoria is her resilience and hard work. She was in a super famous band, didn't really do well with her own singing career (ahem ... but I don't think mind of its own was that bad), became a caricatural WAG and could have stopped there.
Instead, she completely reinvented herself, pushed forward and became a name in the fashion world. It takes gut and hard work, she was a joke before, and ended up with the seal of approval from the likes of Wintour. Her fashion business might employ an army of designers, so what if it does. They wouldn't have a job without her. If people are so clever and talented, they are free to succeed on their own. She did.

I wouldn't raise my kids the way they raise theirs, but you can tell they are trying to give the world to them.

I admire her.

savedbythebell · 19/04/2017 21:02

Well i didn't write her off as "nothing but someone's wife" though did i, Boy what i said was her fame probably wouldn't have lasted if she hadn't met DB. They were successful but that doesn't mean they were great.

I really can't understand how they could "empower" someone though, well it would take a lot more than a girl band to empower me anyway.

JaneEyre70 · 19/04/2017 21:06

What I don't get is that it's on public record that her company owes over £4.5 million for its last financial reports, and £3.7 million the year before. So I'm assuming that her business isn't actually doing that well. Or am I being thick??
I don't get her OBE at all.

Birdsgottaf1y · 19/04/2017 21:10

I think the traits listed on the positive threads could be applied to Katie Price, more than VB.

savedbythebell · 19/04/2017 21:11

She also only pays her staff nat min wage. Nothing to admire there.

I don't know if I can articulate exactly why, saved. I just know the first message I got from a pop band was girl power, and how important friends are. I'm not claiming the Spoce Girls, or Victoria Beckham, are, or must be, perfect role models.

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 19/04/2017 21:44

*Spice

A1Sharon · 19/04/2017 21:53

The Spice Girls were a manufactured band who were told to say 'Girl Power' etc.
I am all ears if anyone can tell me a single empowering/interesting thing that even 1 of them ever said.

DeadGood · 19/04/2017 21:53

I really have to know what the "leaving hotel" thing was now.

southeastdweller · 19/04/2017 22:03

Role model, my arse. She's stuck with her husband despite his numerous alleged affairs, pushed her children into the family brand, and the truth about how much she designs of her own fashion line is unknown. To everyone who's applauding her 'hard work', she's had many people helping her for years. At least we'll be spared ever reading about 'Lady Victoria' now that hubby has revealed his true colours.

But the Honours system is a load of crap anyway and has been for years. 33 year old Sheridan Smith gets an OBE to services to drama? Grin

nothercupoftea · 19/04/2017 22:27

she's had many people helping her for years

Nooooooooo really? Shock

She is not single-handedly running and maintaining her mansions, raising and dealing with her 4 kids, managing her fashion business, posing for the various paps shots, travelling around the world, handling her social media accounts and PR
currently picturing Victoria sitting on a high speed lawn mower, rollers on her head, tablet at the front on a skype call, mixing cake batter with one hand, and drawing a new dress with the other Grin
SHE HAS HELP? No. I can not possibly believe that.

squoosh · 19/04/2017 22:34

^'Ken Dodd a Sir, how ridiculous.
Also, her eldest son is annoying me now and I hate myself for thinking badly of a teenage boy.'^

Celeb offspring masquerading as celebs is the worst. I know what you mean about Brooklyn Beckham but I decided if he's old enough to pose moodily on red carpets he's old enough for my eye rolls!

southeastdweller · 19/04/2017 22:35

Yes, really.

So what makes her so 'interesting' then Nothercup, given the hard work you say she does? How much hard work does SHE do?

squoosh · 19/04/2017 22:36

Also this 'Ken Dodd a Sir, how ridiculous' made me laugh! 😅

ArriettyClock1 · 19/04/2017 23:01

I have a son Brooklyn's age so can't help but tut.

Mostly at tattoos and why isn't he still in education? I know tertiary education is not for everyone but what does this wannabe celeb actually do?

A1Sharon · 19/04/2017 23:06

Deadgood I can't find a link, sorry.
There are a million photos /videos of her leaving hotels-I get it, she is wearing her designs etc, she has to look good.
But here is where she annoys me. She can't just walk out of the hotel the way every other designer does. It's all pre planned down to the last detail.
In this clip the photographers etc are all outside, but we can see in, which she mustn't realise. She side steps out from the shadows, where she has obviously been waiting for the right moment (Confused) then starts nonchalantly walking out.
It's so fake and staged, it's hilarious. It was doing the rounds on FB etc at the time. She looked a right ninny. Can't she ever just be natural?!

A1Sharon · 19/04/2017 23:07

I thought he was still in school?
He is also a photographer dontcha know?
