AIBU to be pleased for her?

OP posts:
ScarletForYa · 19/04/2017 17:47

Isn't her fashion label just a debt ridden vanity project?

Surely, you have to actually turn a profit to be a successful business?

cansu · 19/04/2017 17:47

Well that's me told. I don't actually know about the dress that VB got someone else to design for her as am obviously a fashion idiot. Anyhow, I wasn't aware she was herself a designer. Having your own label is largely down to cash, no? So again we are back to her being a good business woman. Why do we need to honour people for being good at their chosen job? Surely we should be honouring those who have made a significant difference to other people's lives through their work etc? I remember hearing an interview with a surgeon who had worked in many dangerous places around the world training others to save lives in conflicts. This was someone who deserved an award not someone who had designed a dress FGS.

MrsJayy · 19/04/2017 17:48

What leaked stuff ?

MitzyLeFrouf · 19/04/2017 17:49

David's leaked emails where he expressed 'frustration' that he's not a Sir yet.

That1950sMum · 19/04/2017 17:50

Services to fashion?

Seriously?

How is that even a thing?

Ridiculous.

ByeByeBadman · 19/04/2017 17:51

Im not sure she's a good role model with her obvious eating disorder and the underweight models she uses.

MitzyLeFrouf · 19/04/2017 17:51

Fashion brings a lot of money to the economy so I don't see it as ridiculous that designers are given these gongs.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 19/04/2017 17:51

I don't think Becks will get his sweaty mitts on a Knighthood now, not after calling them a bunch of cunts and threw a hissy fit when he was overlooked the last time Grin.

I don't doubt VB works very hard to be the face of her brand and promote it to the best of her ability. Say what you like about Stella M but she did go to Central St Martins and get fashion stuff credentials to her name unlike Posh who couldn't cut it as a singer and had to reinvent herself to keep herself relevant, good on her for that.

HotelEuphoria · 19/04/2017 17:52

Meh..

BIWI · 19/04/2017 17:53

Fashion contributes around £28 billion to the UK every year. It's one of our most significant industries. So VB is an important contributor to that.

cansu · 19/04/2017 17:56

I would be surprised to find that her company was registered for tax in the UK. Isn't she based in the US?

User998877 · 19/04/2017 17:57

I don't dislike VB, but I hate the whole system that rewards celebrities for... well being celebrities!

Services to fashion is just so pretentious! Do those of you applauding this really believe that her brand would have done this well if she was not the brand behind it.

The Beckhams are a brand, those of you that buy into branding will of course applaud her, those who don't probably won't.

ArriettyClock1 · 19/04/2017 17:59

I would not agree she's a good role model.

She touts her kids to promote the brand, she seems to have let her husband get away with infidelity, she controls her public image so much she comes across as bonkers - and that hotel exit summed it up perfectly. We were once in LAX at the same time she arrived - watching her carefully arranged performance was amazing.

Anyway, I don't mind her receiving an honour, but it's really for services to celebrity rather than anything important.

drinkswineoutofamug · 19/04/2017 18:04

My great nana got an OBE for services in nursing during the war. She was a civilian nurse. I'm not sure on all the details. But the actually OBE is in a museum .
VB doesn't deserve in my opinion . She can't sing. Can't dance. Never smiles and certainly can't design clothes. She looked like a bag lady.
And the 'I'm proud to be British'
Reminds us where you live most of the time these days.

savedbythebell · 19/04/2017 18:05

I wouldn't wear one of her "designs" if you paid me. VB couldn't design a tea towel. Apart from that i don't agree with all that "honours" crap. Yes i'm a miserable sod aren't I.

I really like Victoria Beckham. Her fashion line is lovely. She may not do all the designing but she is highly involved in the process. Her line has been well received across the world. She was a member of one of the most successful girl bands of all time. She was far more famous than David Beckham when they married - he has been able to help himself due to her success as well as his own talent. Speculating about what goes in their marriage does not relate to her fashion business. She may be a celebrity but she is relevant today due to her self made business savvy. I look up to her.

User998877 · 19/04/2017 18:10

drinkswine seems to me that your great nana is very worthy of her OBE

maddiemookins16mum · 19/04/2017 18:13

I just wish she'd smile (and eat) more. She always looks a bit glum.
As for these awards, I cannot stand them. Ken Dodd a Sir, how ridiculous.
Also, her eldest son is annoying me now and I hate myself for thinking badly of a teenage boy.

Aeroflotgirl · 19/04/2017 18:16

I am going to be the sour grapes, but I don't agree with it, and giving celebrities awards, just for doing their job, they are paid enough anyway. What about those, who work tirelessly in the community, volunteering and helping people and saving lives. Not to mention, the last survivor of the Dambusters crew, who has yet to receive one.

nothercupoftea · 19/04/2017 18:19

I am happy for her, and I agree she is a great role model.

On candid videos, the rare ones, she really seems like a funny and lovely woman. They are obviously trying to do what they think is the best for their family, giving kids what they did not have themselves. I am not sure I would agree with all their choices, but it's their kids, and they are doing their best.

Victoria has gone a long way and is really hard working. I wish I could meet her in real life. (without appearing like a crazy groupie).

MrsJayy · 19/04/2017 18:33

Oh Dearie me DB has really blown his Sirness Grin

savedbythebell · 19/04/2017 18:34

Just because she was a member of one of the most successful girl bands of all time didn't mean they were any good. They got lucky, they appealed to lots of young girls, definitely weren't very talented though, and they certainly didn't empower anyone with all that "girl power" stuff they spouted. She's one of those lucky ones in life who were born with the proverbial "silver spoon". Not my idea of a role model either.

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 19/04/2017 18:35

In interviews I've read and seen, she doesn't smile so the paparazzi will hound her less. They know she won't smile so gets slightly less bothered.

Sparklingbrook · 19/04/2017 18:38

I find Geri Halliwell a way more interesting character, but TBF none of the Spice Girls pass my 'do you think that you could have a fun night in the pub with them' sleb test. Bet they are all gutted about that. Grin
