To go swimming without shaving?

ArriettyMatilda · 18/04/2017 21:10

I am not a regular shaver. It's time consuming, occasionally itchy during regrowth and I hate myself for feeling like I have to conform to society's expectations plus I'm lazy I really want to take dd swimming more regularly but I really can't be bothered with maintaining a smooth bikini line and legs.

I am well aware that I wouldn't even be asking this if I was a man, but I can't shake the feeling that someone will be disgusted by my hair. I'm so annoyed that I feel like I have to remove part of my body to become an acceptable member of society.

Would you judge me for having hairy legs and hair around my bikini line? If you don't like shaving what do you wear swimming?

Why are some of you so keen to inflict your pubes on strangers anyway? Grin

If you didn't understand that comment and you're using it as your argument then you really are scraping the barrel. The question was in jest. But I've noticed you don't really have a sense of humour on this thread. You've been rather hysterical and melodramatic.

But carry on.

Sadandconfusednamechanger · 19/04/2017 14:38

I have a swimsuit like the one pictured above, which I use at the public swimming pools. On holiday I do my legs and bikini line the night before we set off, and then might run a razor over half way through, but I don't get too hung up.

ChaiTeaTaiChi · 19/04/2017 14:39

Please stop telling people they didn't understand when its clear they are disagreeing with you. It makes you look very silly and its counterproductive.
Your point was clear, you made it several times. If you have changed your mind just say so, there is no shame in it.

brassbrass · 19/04/2017 14:41

still scraping chai

ChaiTeaTaiChi · 19/04/2017 14:42

Scraping away to see if you have some capacity for thought, yes. What can I say, I'm an optimist!

brassbrass · 19/04/2017 14:45

It doesn't come across like you're an optimist but glad to hear it. I am too.

heron98 · 19/04/2017 14:56

I go swimming five times a week and have to say I have never noticed what anyone else's pubes are doing. I couldn't care less.

TheLuminaries · 19/04/2017 14:57

I know. the posters frothing about 'pubes hanging out' and 'showing your minge' come across as really weird and prurient. Who even notices this stuff?

Bluntness100 · 19/04/2017 15:18

I am a tad weird, And proud of it,, although I've got to be honest, I find it weirder and incredibly prurient, in fact verging on lewd to purposefully and knowingly have your pubic hair visible to strangers and not care, in fact to argue the case for it. I'd say i was rather prudish in that regard. 😂

brassbrass · 19/04/2017 15:27

heron tbh I haven't really noticed either but I suspect in the real world we use swimming pools where the other users wear appropriate costumes or deal with the pubes in some other way so there isn't anything to notice if that makes sense.

Mulledwine1 · 19/04/2017 15:31

I swam for years without shaving my bikini line. I have absolutely no idea if anything showed or not. Nobody ever said anything, I don't suppose they would, but I would have thought that someone in my swimming class would eventually have said something in a roundabout way.

I don't look at people to see if they've shaved their legs/bikini line.

The only thing I notice is bushy eyebrows - not exclusively at a swimming pool though!

OhGood · 19/04/2017 15:37

As long as you swim in the hairy lane (like me), no problem.

BertrandRussell · 19/04/2017 15:43

Hairy lane st the special feminist swimming pool. No bras allowed and only dungaree swimming costumes. Consciousness raising outreach workers support group every Thursday lunchtime, with special reference to online work. Free herbal tea and vegan dairy free brownies.

themusicmum · 19/04/2017 15:44

I haven't shaved for years. Who cares? Just go have fun.

user1485342611 · 19/04/2017 15:44

I always envy people who can just spontaneously strip off and go for a swim. I need plenty of notice as I am paranoid about having any body hair showing.

Which is ridiculous, I know. When I go to the pool I'm certainly not looking at anyone else's legs or bikini line. I'm trying to get undressed and dressed as quickly as possible, and enjoy a nice swim in between.

I suspect in real world people have better things to do stalk your pubic hair.

brassbrass · 19/04/2017 17:14

glad to hear it C8 Grin

Mamabear14 · 19/04/2017 17:14

I went to the pool today. I'm there a few times a week and can honestly say that I have never noticed pubes. Stop looking at people's crotches and you won't notice either. Unless someone is waving their vag in your face you wouldn't notice a few spiders legs.

nannybeach · 19/04/2017 17:21

Get yourself a Burkini, then.

Bluntness100 · 19/04/2017 17:32

The thing is it takes seconds to run a lady shave or a razor over your bikini line and it takes no longer to buy a swim short than a short legged suit to cover your pubic hair if you do not wish to shave. There really is no reason to have your pubic hair clearly visible in public unless you willfully chose to, male or female.

ArriettyMatilda · 19/04/2017 17:37

Having gone to the pool unshaven today I can report that no one even noticed. I suspect they may have noticed my pubes, had I not been wearing a costume with a skirt. I do get what others are saying about not seeing pubic hair as it's from a private/sexual area, mine unfortunately comes an inch down my thighs. Most swimwear is poorly designed for women like me, but I will find a costume with built in shorts or wear dh's shorts. I did cave and shave under my arms though! I'm glad most of the Mumsnetters on this thread wouldn't be offended.

But surely wearing short-type swim suits/ swim suits with long legs/ shorts etc screams to everyone "I cba shaving/waxing my pubic hair but I'm bothered enough to hide it"?!

brassbrass · 19/04/2017 18:21

no more than it does when you're wearing other clothes Hmm

Mamabear14 · 19/04/2017 18:34

Nope. I shave my bikini line and I am considering one so I don't flash my arse from the inevitable wedgie you get swimming/climbing out the pool.
