To go swimming without shaving?

ArriettyMatilda · 18/04/2017 21:10

I am not a regular shaver. It's time consuming, occasionally itchy during regrowth and I hate myself for feeling like I have to conform to society's expectations plus I'm lazy I really want to take dd swimming more regularly but I really can't be bothered with maintaining a smooth bikini line and legs.

I am well aware that I wouldn't even be asking this if I was a man, but I can't shake the feeling that someone will be disgusted by my hair. I'm so annoyed that I feel like I have to remove part of my body to become an acceptable member of society.

Would you judge me for having hairy legs and hair around my bikini line? If you don't like shaving what do you wear swimming?

I can't see the corporate world or the social circles I travel in adopting this

The people saying women should remove/cover up body hair because it offends them to see it - there are people who think women should wear headscarves because the sight of female head hair offends them Hmm

ahem... you do realise that in most swimming pools, you are expected to cover your pubic hair and genital area... the issue is about people, male or female, wearing swimsuits too small that don't cover all they are designed to cover.

Unless you go to different sessions than the rest of us?

no serious swimmer swims in shorts so that's not an option.
HAHAHA
and that's all the Olympic swimmers sent back to the changing room then.

Actually it isn't. Most swimsuits are designed to cover your hair only if you wax/shave/trim your hair. Very few swimsuits are designed to cover the naturally hairy woman.
So we either need to buy new swimwear (which is fine if we want to) or just wear what we have and hope people don't be dicks and point and stare.
So if you could not be dicks, that would be great.

ChaiTeaTaiChi · 21/04/2017 11:28

having your pubic hair publicly visible is simply lewd behavuour

Having stray escaping pubic hairs is "lewd behavior"? On what planet? Are you one of those gobshites who think breastfeeding in public is "lewd behavior" too?

GolyHuacamole · 21/04/2017 11:33

No, the lewd behaviour is staring at someone's pubic area.

I used to shave & de-hair now I don't have the time nor inclination. I'm there to swim not compare my hairy bits!

brassbrass · 21/04/2017 11:36

conserve why the biscuit?

Some of the advice on here just isn't realistic. I couldn't go to work with hairy legs. I wear dresses and skirts in the summer. Don't pretend that all women can suddenly turn up in the corporate world or most jobs for that matter like hairy yetis and still maintain their career or social groups. Hmm

It would be extremely alienating to say the least!

To suggest otherwise simply shows you're posting crap for the sake of posting crap.

It doesn't help the sisterhood luv so here have a Biscuit from me.

WaitrosePigeon · 21/04/2017 11:44

Exposing your public hair is lewd behaviour, only on Mumsnet Grin

ChaiTeaTaiChi · 21/04/2017 11:44

hairy yetis

Still insulting women then? Nice description Hmm

brassbrass · 21/04/2017 12:04

chai I think you're the one insulting women with your one dimensional brand of feminism. Hmm

FYI getting your pubes out or burning your bras and getting your tits out doesn't help the cause. If you haven't grasped that yet then you've a long way to go with your 'feminsim'. I think the fact that you can't contribute to this thread in a helpful way says what kind of a woman you are.

What happened to tolerance? You don't seem to have any for anyone with a different opinion to you. Accept that society isn't geared up for walking around as some of you are suggesting. If it was we'd be seeing it everyday wouldn't we? I can honestly say I don't see anyone walking around like you're suggesting or that blogger someone posted about.

I have yet to see this in Real Life. Stop talking MN shite. Meanwhile most women who need to go about their business deal with hairiness however it suits them whether that means shaving or not doesn't matter. Whatever works for them because women can and should be able to CHOOSE. And while we're being sisterly whatever they choose whether you agree with it or not is absolutely ok.

Finally you nor anyone else will ever convince me that having your pubes out in public is ok. Anywhere. In my very real world no one walks around like that. That doesn't make me sexist. I'm laughing as I type it because it's so ridiculous.

Bluntness100 · 21/04/2017 12:07

ODFOD. On what planet is breastfeeding remotely similar to having your pubes out in public. One is to feed a child, what's the other for? Why would you even think the two are similar and link them, that's just sick. Shock

Exposing your public hair is lewd behaviour, only on Mumsnet

In most walks of life getting your pubes out in public is lewd and frowned upon. But if in your social circles getting your pubes out is all the rage, you go for it. 😂

It's making me laugh too, genuinely. 😂😂😂.

Those are not shorts, those are body fitting swimsuits, but with legs. Not actual shorts.

You need a therapist love. Quick.

brassbrass · 21/04/2017 12:11

Bluntness I'm starting to suspect that someone is on school holidays and looking for entertainment. Perhaps we should keep the conversation between the grown ups?

xForsythia · 21/04/2017 12:12

oh good god

brassbrass · 21/04/2017 12:13

I see language is deteriorating along with their hold on a sensible argument ROFL.

Bluntness100 · 21/04/2017 12:14

And do fuck off with you "getting your tits out" offensive sexist shit, you're making a holy show of yourself. hmm

Oh I don't think it's brass brass making a holy show of herself. 😂

ChaiTeaTaiChi · 21/04/2017 12:16

Can the hysterical anti-pubers get a fucking grip of themselves? We are talking about being in your local kids pool and having a few, stray hairs.
You seem to have got the bizarre impression that we are talking about walking down the high street with head to toe thick and curlies.

We can see you have an unhealthy fetish with other womens hair, but try to reign in the crazy, will you?

Bluntness100 · 21/04/2017 12:16

Brass brass yes but it's highly amusing.😂

This is brilliant, I am sharing the thread, that will cheer up people Grin

What the actual fuck is this?

brassbrass · 21/04/2017 12:26

Dear chai I'm going to make one last attempt to help you understand and then cease to engage with you.

walking down the high street with head to toe thick and curlies

whilst it's fantastic that you don't have this problem and it's only the odd stray here and there for you for other women the head to toe thick and curlies is very much a reality. They don't have the luxury of the odd stray. They have a much bigger area to worry about. So telling them to just let it all hang out isn't helpful or at all realistic. Why? Because in real life it is much more difficult to do that and importantly not everyone wants to in the first place. Not everyone is that brave or wants to solicit negative unwanted attention. They just want to go about their business anonymously and off radar. Not flashing beacons screaming 'Look at Me! Look at Me!'

I do hope you can understand.

Bluntness100 · 21/04/2017 12:37

Not flashing beacons screaming 'Look at Me! Look at Me!'

I think that's more "look at my pubes! , look at my pubes!...

Is it just me who can't stop laughing.😂😂😂

brassbrass · 21/04/2017 12:41

Even for MN this is pretty hilarious.
