To ask how you stay fit

I like food!
But I also like to stay fit so I have to work out very regularly.
My workout routine isn't fun. At. All.

What do you do to stay fit?

Frieda I have a pair of hand-weights and a set of barbell weights. Have had them for years so not sure how much they cost, but not more than £50. You also need a bench to lie on, but I just use the coffee-table!!

GotToGetMyFingerOut · 18/04/2017 23:06

Aim for 20,000 steps a day. Do a 10k run once a week and a hiit workout three times. One pt session and a boot camp class.

bear28 · 18/04/2017 23:16

Well next week I am going to my first boogie bounce. So excited. It's a workout on a small trampoline with disco lights in the dark. Cannot think of a better way to keep fit!!

EmmaC78 · 18/04/2017 23:22

I go horseriding a couple of times a week (more in summer) and run three times a week. I would like to do more but struggle to find the time.

RJnomore1 · 18/04/2017 23:27

Monday bodybuilding pt or Kettlebell sport class
Tuesday Kettlebell fitness class - I use biggish kettlebells, 16-24kg
Wednesday 5k run
Thursday metafit, 30 minute Thai boxing pt every second week
Friday bodybuilding pt
Saturday Thai boxing class
Sunday small private MMA class, sometimes 5k run

I'm not particularly fit though. I do like eating.

KeepingitReal2 · 18/04/2017 23:27

Bootcamp nearly every day (30 minutes sometimes 1hr sessions i.e. Double session) mixture of weights, HITT, Tabatha...
run 2-3 times a week approx 10K
Eat keto if losing weight
Very very tired often in evenings

Well, Active Threads seems to have a suggestion

To ask how you stay fit
KeepingitReal2 · 18/04/2017 23:27

I love exercise and would like to try dance

baconandmushrooms · 18/04/2017 23:29

I eat meals half the size of the ones I ate in my 20s Sad

StrawberryMouse · 18/04/2017 23:32

Run 30 odd miles a week, road bike and weights. Means I can eat what I want but spend a lot of time in trainers with sweaty hair. Grin

badg3r · 18/04/2017 23:37

Before kids; cycling everywhere, running a couple of times a week and dance class. Now; more housework, still cycling everywhere and lugging round 15kg of toddler on my hip whilst growing number two. My job is pretty active too. Less glamorous exercise regimen these days but it's all free, and also less easy to shirk on days when I'm zonked Wink

VinoEsmeralda · 18/04/2017 23:37

Monday - spinning and powerpump
Tuesday-nothing
Wednesday- spinning and kettlebell class
Thursday- nothing
Friday 7.5k run ( very hilly)
Saturday nothing
Sunday- 5-7 k run

Walk the dog for an hr easily every day plus I cycle to work ( and pretty much anywhere)

mumtomaxwell · 18/04/2017 23:39

How on earth do you all find the time?? That's my biggest barrier to exercise.
In a typical work day (teacher) I get up at 6, get ready then get kids up - they have to be at the breakfast table by 7am or it all goes to shit. We leave the house at 7.40 and I drop them off at school at 8. I officially get 40 mins for lunch but not really supposed to go off site. Then pick kids up at 4.30, go home cook tea (eat at 5/5.30ish). Bath youngest at 6.15, get her into bed by 7, supervise bigger 2 getting washed/into bed. They're all settled by 8 and then I work again for 2-3 hrs.

At the weekends it's similar without the school run. DH works long and crazy shifts so isn't around much.

I just can't see where exercise can fit in?

Twinkie1 · 18/04/2017 23:40

Weekly
2 PT sessions (super sets weights/body weight work and cardio)
1 Boxing class
1 spin class
1 weights sessions

Daily
100 Russia twists
100 weighted sit ups
5m plank

I love exercising, it's the only thing that keeps me sane. I've always done it. In 4 months I'll swap the PT sessions for running and the spin class for weights.

purplehonesty · 18/04/2017 23:42

I don't have anyone to look after the dc and dh is at work most evenings

I never sit down tho, go a dog walk most days, am on my feet most of the day at work.

So altho I'm not doing exercise as such its constant movement all day which I figure must be good.

I low carb too if my weight creeps up! Currently doing it to get back down to 8 stone for my holiday and going extra walks over Easter.

We do have a treadmill and rowing machine in the garage but I rarely use it. I really should though, think I would use it more if it were in the house.

rightsofwomen · 19/04/2017 06:55

mumto you really don't have much time. It's a shame that so many people find themselves with such little free time. You must be very tired.

I work full time from home. Single mum. I can run or go for a swim in the day. I also go late at night or early morning when DS1 minds DS2 (who is asleep). I have lots of flexibility.

TrollMummy · 19/04/2017 07:49

Walking. I walk everywhere, minimum 10,000 steps. It fits in with my daily life and I'm exercising without having to set time aside to specifically exercise. I sometimes do a DVD workout (Davina) or use something like the Ab challenge app to tone up a bit for holidays. I eat pretty much what I want within reason and have never put on weight.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/04/2017 07:50

Purple don't fret. These threads always only attract MNers who exercise loads. Nobody ever comes on and says "I do nothing. I'm unfit and unmotivated". In reality, around half of the uk population do no exercise at all, ever.

It's the same with threads about alcohol. From reading those you'd think that everyone in Britain is teetotal or has one small sherry at Christmas. And we know that's not the case.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 19/04/2017 07:52

Running & cycling mainly

I also walk a reasonable amount and try to do a weekly 'bums & tums' class

If I can't get out then I do a Davina DVD

moredealsplease · 19/04/2017 08:05

Run 5k twice a week followed by cross trainer for 20 mins then weights.
Hilly cycle 3 times a week 20-40 miles.
Fitting it in gets much easier as DC get older and I have only really got into exercise in last couple of years. Now though I love it and it has become a vital part of my life.

needastrongone · 19/04/2017 08:14

Mum You have a lot on your plate, don't worry. My DC are older, it gets easier. I did manage to marathon train when the DC were small but it was fcuking hard and I was obsessed at that stage, it took a toll on the family.

I don't know much about Joe Wicks (he strikes me as an annoying twat if I am being honest!!) but isn't his mantra about Fit in 15 minutes or something, which might be an option? High intensity Interval training is his thing.

KayTee87 · 19/04/2017 08:16

The things I enjoy doing are walking, swimming and cycling. Don't have any time for swimming and cycling with baby to look after so going to have to majorly start controlling what I eat as I've still 10lbs of pregnancy weight to lose 8.5 months later Sad

KayTee87 · 19/04/2017 08:17

Oh I do yoga once a week but don't consider it working out, more stretching and relaxation.

KayTee87 · 19/04/2017 08:19

This afternoon mil is having the baby and I'm going to a spin class then for a swim.

Ledkr · 19/04/2017 08:27

mum. That's my life too.
I manage a clubbacise class on Mondays straight after work but can only do that if dh not on lates.
Even when I do it i don't see my youngest as she's in bed and by the time I've showered and eaten it's bedtime!
I do Zumba on my day off on Friday but it does mean I've a lot to cram into the rest of the day before I pick up dc.
I'd like to excercise at home more but as soon as I feel tired I stop Confused
