To ask how you stay fit

ADayGivingMeHope · 18/04/2017 15:28

I like food!
But I also like to stay fit so I have to work out very regularly.
My workout routine isn't fun. At. All.

What do you do to stay fit?

Thanks Pinkheart - do you need a rest day or do you go every day without fail? I am thinking of turning my 3-5 mile dog walk into a 3-5 mile run daily! I am not quite there yet and can only manage to run 2.5 miles but my aim would be to get to 3-5 miles. Do you think it makes a massive difference to run the 3-5 miles rather than walk them? I walk fairly quickly anyway....

Underparmummy · 18/04/2017 16:09

pilates/yoga/barreclass

I like these ones a lot

running

don't like this but feel I need a bit more cardio

Have done the odd HIIT workout recently - mainly body boss ones (occasionally they show one for free!)

BitOutOfPractice · 18/04/2017 16:09

I go to the gym 5-6 times a week. Running, weights. Im out of most classes with a bad shoulder at the moment but I hope to get back to one soon.

I also aim to walk 9000 steps a day. That involves some effort as I have a desk job and no commute

Sirzy · 18/04/2017 16:09

Loubillu - you can always do a mix of run/walk so doesn't need to go straight to The whole distance then

skippy67 · 18/04/2017 16:10

Body combat once a week.
Netball 3 times a week.
10000+ steps a day
park run, but only VERY occasionally

HelenaJustina · 18/04/2017 16:11

Run 5k 1-2 times a week
Yoga once a week
Ballet once a week
Zumba once a week
2 x 15 min free weight sessions.

And I control my calorie intake, no seconds, limited sweet things, dark chocolate when I need a hit, limit bready things, soup for dinner 1-2 a week

swampytiggaa · 18/04/2017 16:13

I run three times a week and walk everywhere. Have just Started getting up in time to use our cross trainer every day too.

SunshineBabe · 18/04/2017 16:17

I've just started bikram yoga 3 times a week but before this I did nothing Blush

I need to lose about 2st but hate all exercise!

ShowOfHands · 18/04/2017 16:18

Every day at 6am I do a 60 minute workout (weights, HIIT, circuits). I run twice a week (between 5 and 10k). Cycle to work twice a week (14 miles). Walk a lot too. I aim for 15,000 steps a day.

I am teetotal, eat a high protein, veg heavy diet with minimal carbs and good fats. No sugar. No caffeine.

Sheusedtobesomeonelse · 18/04/2017 16:19

I have just ran a marathon and trained 4 times a week - from 6-30 km depending on my training plan - i loved the zoning out in my head and just "doing". i'm on a couple of weeks rest and will start running again 2-3 times a week usually between 5-15 km (in the morning before work is my best time).
Jillian Michaels also sees me through the "god i ate alot last night but need to get moving" - her workouts are so easy to fit in around my day, i find! Back to basics at the moment with Ripped in 30, really enjoying it, which is the most imortant thing!

Nancy91 · 18/04/2017 16:19

Pole fitness at home and studio
Gym - weightlifting & cardio
Dog walking
Occasional run
Yoga
A bit of body weight stuff at home and flexibility training

Pinkheart5915 · 18/04/2017 16:19

Lou When I first starting the running I use to do 2 days then a rest day but now I go everyday. For me if I run I feel like I've exercised after but walking I don't, that's the diffrence between running/walking for me personally

You could start with an aim of running 2 miles a day and then walking, that way you can gradually build it up by 0.5 mile every fortnight or something to suit you.

squoosh · 18/04/2017 16:22

Lifting weight is one of the most beneficial things you can do to keep yourself fit. Great for weight loss, building lean muscle and great for strengthening bones. Things you'll be glad of in old age!

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 18/04/2017 16:24

Run or crosstrain 3-4 times a week, PT session every 2 weeks & sometimes do an additional gym session, mountain biking occasionally which is fun & I walk a lot.

millifiori · 18/04/2017 16:24

I get bored very easily so do lots of things to vary it. In the last month, I have done yoga (lots), walking (lots in different locations, cities, hills, woodlands, parks etc), swimming (a mile at a time), zumba, heavy gardening (digging), trampolining, cycling, HIIT. I'm overweight but mainly because I eat way too much!

arbrighton · 18/04/2017 16:24

Before pregnancy, and hopefully postpartum, I row and walk the dogs. By row, I mean properly, in a boat, not fannying around on the machines in the gym for five minutes.

That means 6-8 sessions a week including weight training.

I also walk the dog and run occasionally for a change. Ok, run might be a bit optimistic, plod slightly faster than walking.

Currently though, at 29 weeks, I walk the dogs and occasionally swim.

vitaminC · 18/04/2017 16:32

Cycle everywhere (don't actually own a car anymore as we never used it). Only get the bus to work if the weather is awful, and then walk home if it's improved.

I go to the gym for at least 1h, 3 times a week. Sometimes replacing one of those gym sessions with an hour of swimming, if I have time (gym is round the corner, swimming pool à 20 minute bike ride away).

I also see a physio for 30 minutes, twice a week, for my neck (lots of stretching).

And once a week I walk across town to a big outdoor market, then home again with snags of food.

I'm still a couple of stone heavier than I'd like, despite all that, though!

ADayGivingMeHope · 18/04/2017 16:33

Some brilliant tips! I like the idea of dance exercise! 😊

OP posts:
vitaminC · 18/04/2017 16:33

Bags of food, not snags!

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 18/04/2017 16:37

I have a workout app on my phone (Sweat with Kayla) that I've been using since Christmas, it's pretty good. I also run (3/4 miles) 2/3 times a week. I go kayaking very early Saturday or Sunday morning, time permitting usually if DH has been out and leaves it set up for me cos otherwise I can't be bothered.

Tillymintsmama · 18/04/2017 16:46

Omg I am astounded by the amount of exercise people are doing and I feel very slovenly. I hate exercise, have painful osteoarthritis so I suffer for it. Do 2 yoga classes and 2 ×30 min swims a week and to be honest I was feeling quite virtuous about it until I stumbled across this thread!!! Blush

Girlwiththearabstrap · 18/04/2017 16:48

I run 3 times a week, between 5 and 10k each time. I go with a group for motivation. I also do a bootcamp once a week which is a mixture of hiit, boxing and Kettlebells.

Sirzy · 18/04/2017 16:48

Tilly - that will be considerably more than the majority of the population does!

Iamblossom · 18/04/2017 16:51

I try and:

Run 10km twice a week
Go to the gym twice a week - do the cross trainer for 30 minutes, weights and core exercises
sometimes fit in one swim as well

I have had a Fitbit Blaze since Xmas and it has made me mindful of trying to walk more too.

ghostyslovesheets · 18/04/2017 16:51

Tilly everything you do is better than not doing it! so don't compare to others just do your shit

I love running but I am slooooooow - no matter - I'm not going to the Olympics anytime soon - I just do it because I like it
