Who to vote for in General Election?

Aargh.

Would normally vote for Lib Dems (feel like I should apologise for this!), and voted for them in the last two elections. In an ideal world, I'd vote for them or Labour, but I'm not keen on Jeremy Corbyn's (or Tim Farron's) leadership. Really don't want to vote Conservative.

Wondering perhaps about voting for the Women's Equality Party? They seem pretty good, but are still quite a small party.

What does everyone else think?

Namechanger
What a bizzare request!

Why should your friend get a 'proxy' vote (or 10 or 20) when they are not entitled to one in the first place?

If I decided that I didnt like any of the candidates in my area, that I couldnt stand any of the policies of the political parties at this time and I chose not to vote why the hell would I vote for someone I didnt believe in for someone else? Kind of defeats the whole 'democracy thing'.

NameChanger22 · 19/04/2017 01:02

Everyone gets a say. No every person who should be eligible, but isn't, gets a vote.

MyCatShatInAHat · 19/04/2017 01:02

Everyone should use their vote, this is what the suffragettes championed for women. But every persons vote is theirs.

NameChanger22 · 19/04/2017 01:02

*Not

NameChanger22 · 19/04/2017 01:03

He should be entitled to one, he's lived here a very long time and paid taxes.

NameChanger22 · 19/04/2017 01:05

It's not a bizarre request, it's an innovative one.

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 19/04/2017 01:05

NameChanger if your friend isn't yet a British citizen, is he not able to vote in the country that he was born in?

Asking one person privately is one thing but asking potentially a lot of people is bizarre - your friend isn't eligible so doesn't get to vote even indirectly.

If you have issues about the referendum and eligibility of voters then I'm sure you are working hard to change the situation - until then it is how it is and if you can't see that 10 or 20 people voting one way as a 'favour' is wrong then I find that concerning

NameChanger22 · 19/04/2017 01:05

If I didn't know who to vote for, I would kindly use my vote for someone else.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 19/04/2017 01:06

Ah he 'should' be entitled to one - that's okay then. Sod the law, let anyone who thinks they 'should' be able to vote do so

NameChanger22 · 19/04/2017 01:06

So, if I go on the internet or door to door and say "Vote Lib Dems" how it that different to my request?

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 19/04/2017 01:07

Then that's up to you but it's not what it's for.

Can you please tell me how it would be fair for someone ineligible to get potentially loads of people voting the way he or she wants?

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 19/04/2017 01:08

I'm confused Name - surely your friend is able to vote on his home country?

OP posts:
Pariswhenitdrizzles · 19/04/2017 01:09

*vote in his home country

The law is that you can say and do almost anything when it comes to elections nowadays. You can lie to millions of people, deceive them into believing immigrants are to blame for everything and that brexit is in their best interests.

All I've done is ask for a Lib Dem vote.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 19/04/2017 01:09

because canvassing is legal - someone who is ineligible to vote but tries to get a shitload of proxies is morally dodgy at best

NameChanger22 · 19/04/2017 01:11

The election police are out in full force tonight. Where were you when we really needed you?

If someone uses their vote to help someone else then that's an act of kindness, it most certainly isn't unethical.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 19/04/2017 01:11

I can see you are a little bitter about the political system

Can you please answer my question about multiple votes?why should he potentially have 10/20/100s of votes because of people being kind?

And if you are that bitter about everything what are you doing to change it (other than trying to get a shitload of people to vote to help your friend)

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 19/04/2017 01:13

It isn't one person though - you are asking in a public forum. So it could be 100s of people who decide to be 'kind'.

Not sure why you are struggling with this

You obviously have issues around Brexit - I voted remain too but that's the shit thing about a democracy - sometimes the other people win

LadyMetroland · 19/04/2017 01:13

Vote Tory because if Theresa May is sitting at the Brexit negotiating table with a whopping great mandate, she'll get a better deal. Soft Brexit more likely.

Willow2017 · 19/04/2017 01:14

I think you are deliberately missing the point.

  1. Your friend isnt a british citizen therefor doesnt get a vote.

  2. You are asking potentially hundreds of people to vote for his preference.

  3. Therefor you are effectively saying "My friend isnt legally allowed to vote but I would like him to have 100 votes by proxy"

Mental!

NameChanger22 · 19/04/2017 01:14

I'm not bitter. I am a bit annoyed about the referendum, because that was extremely unethical. Apparently, there is nothing that can be done about that now. I didn't ask for a shitload of votes, I asked for one.

NotDavidTennant · 19/04/2017 01:16

because canvassing is legal

And asking someone to vote a particular way is also legal. You admitted so yourself just a minute ago.

Willow2017 · 19/04/2017 01:16

Canvassing for votes by an mp (aka doing his job) and asking 100's of people to vote for your friends' choice are completely different things.

NameChanger22 · 19/04/2017 01:17

Nobody has to do it. I'm not manipulating anyone or offering them (false) promises in return. I asked a straight question, without any hidden agenda.
