To lurk on threads that have absolutely nothing to do with me or my situation?

AIBU or do others do this too? I am a long time lurker on the TTC #1 thread and their grads thread. But I am neither TTC #1 or a grad of TTC #1. So I don't even know why I lurk on them.

It educates me and makes me realise there is a whole world out there beyond my front door.

I enjoy parking threads, with no parking issues in my street.
MIL feeding threads, with a MIL who doesn't cook,

YANBU, I think it's what the majority of people use mumsnet for. I lurk on relationship threads, I have no relationship problems.

It's one of the only things I use MN for regularly as I'm no parent... ha. Good to know others do it too!

WEIRDO ALERT I often follow threads on the weight loss talk forum, the ones where people have literally half their body weight to lose. I get happy for them when they are doing well and I sympathise when they have a bad week. Very odd of me as I'm a healthy weight for my height and I'm never on a diet so it's not like I need tips, I just enjoy reading about their weight loss journeys.

YANBU if that's what you want to do.

Personally I don't tend to lurk on any topics not relevant to me and have them all hidden as far as possible.

Rita - I'm the same when reading the TTC threads. I feel happy when someone gets a BFP and feel sorry for those who get AF... Again not TTC so it's not like I need tops either.

Tips not tops

I'm always a bit agog about the strength of feeling on the parking threads. I don't have a car and so never have to park, but interesting to see from another perspective.

I'm not a parent so quite a few of the threads here aren't relevant to me.

Very educational, I have four sons and now I know exactly how not to behave as a MIL!

I come here mostly for the feminist boards, but I lurk on Baby Names because I'm intrigued by naming trends and names in general!

I regularly lurk in the adoption threads. I'm not planning to adopt I just think the people that do are superheroes and love reading about their ups and downs.

I came on to say, YANBU - I do the same thing! But I've read about lurking on TTC threads and weight loss ones and I don't do that! I just read threads about issues with secondary school catchments and DD is only 1

I decided not to have children and I read the threads where parents talk about their experiences, good, bad and middling, because it never fails to make me feel good about my decision. It goes without saying that I would, of course, never post on those threads. It's information I don't have access too in real life as all my friends who have children are too careful about what they say around me in case they hurt my feelings about not having children!

I like the threads where people are trying to work out whether there's a line on a pregnancy test, even though personally the last thing I ever wanted to see on a pregnancy test was a line, back in the day when I used them. I get a vicarious thrill when the consensus is it's a positive.

I follow loads of threads that don't apply to me at all ; weight loss, marriage problems, cancer patients, greying hair, mental health etc...you name it! It's all about being curious(nosy).

Just goes to show that we're all here for different things. Good to know I'm not the only non-parent on here ha.
