To be a bit annoyed at this supermarket worker?

Went to the local Tesco Express and had waited ages in the queue (it was very busy and I do appreciate that) but I finally got to the till and was being served by a young girl (could be anywhere between 16-26) and it was going fine, but then some lady came up and was putting her items on the till too, I said I was still being served and she just said "yes" and she didn't speak very good English, so it was quite hard to explain. The girl on till said the same thing and told her to please pick up her items while she serves me, but the lady still didn't move and so the worker just kept on serving me? She left the other lady's items there and didn't attempt to move them and didn't ask the lady to move and there were 4 other tills empty so could have moved over to serve me?

AIBU?

Do they?

Try growing up then

RitzyMcFee · 16/04/2017 20:39

I think that is the most insignificant AIBU I have ever read.....
Me too. Sounds like the member of staff managed the so called-situation. She wasn't rude to either customer, she didn't waste anybody's time and she didn't mix up any items.

You shouldn't be annoyed with her. Hmm

TwentyCups · 16/04/2017 20:39

Christ. It's Easter Sunday and this woman was probably working for minimum wage serving people like you. No wonder so many people hate working in retail - I certainly did. You can't win.

Sweets101 · 16/04/2017 20:39

So essentially nothing much happened.

Cynara · 16/04/2017 20:41

Oh my good God. What everyone else said. Watch the news. Read a paper. Worry about something that matters.

user1492369337 · 16/04/2017 20:41

I wouldn't say nothing happened Hmm

It is annoying when other shoppers don't do supermarket queuing properly.

Are you secretly annoyed at the other customer but worried about being accused if xenophobia???!!! 😉 haha!!

100feet · 16/04/2017 20:43

So glad i gave up working in retail. What the hell does Tesco Express need to be open for on Easter Sunday for anyway? People know Easter is coming so surely they can get organised.

NotStoppedAllDay · 16/04/2017 20:45

It's a non issue.... it's just everyday life!

nocoolnamesleft · 16/04/2017 20:46

You are quite right, the situation was totally unreasonable. She should have been at home with her family, not stuck serving you.

DelinquencyMatters · 16/04/2017 20:46

The Tesco Express at the Tower of London was absolute carnage today. Massively overfilled with tourists and the odd local ignoramous like me. They should have stopped people from coming in, I'm sure it was a hazard of some sort.

Ncforthispost2005 · 16/04/2017 20:47

Jesus get a grip. Poor girl is working Easter Sunday and you're moaning about something ridiculous. WTF did you want her do, sound a claxon and get security to move the women's stuff from the till.

hippyhippyshake · 16/04/2017 20:49

You know that people can be annoying as fuck and are still not breaking the law. It's worth remembering if you want to live a calm and happy life.

mr405 · 16/04/2017 20:50

As someone who is young and has just moved on from working minimum wage jobs, often on public holidays whilst also studying for exams etc... I was not paid enough to care enough about a pointless, stupid situation that would last less than 5 minutes.

Let it go OP and enjoy your Easter, thankful that you didn't have to spend the weekend working a shitty low paid job!

JustAnotherPoster00 · 16/04/2017 20:50

What's the significance? Should just be a run of the mill sunday

PossumInAPearTree · 16/04/2017 20:51

Did the shop, worker pick up the other woman's items and scan them thinking they were yours and try and charge you for them? If it's a no then nothing happened.

If the other woman's stuff was practically on the scanner your stuff must have been scanned. She's hardly going to change till if she's halfway through scanning your stuff, that would have been more of an arseache for you.

Graphista · 16/04/2017 20:51

Wow you seriously sound like the type of person who has never done a nmw job, never travelled outside uk!

I highly recommend you try both!

I have been a 'checkout girl' at various points in my life and it is amazing how many customers think you're thick/useless/unemployable elsewhere when actually it's a bloody complex job especially now with all the rules and regs and specific training for each company (eg no 2 tills the same Asda are different from Tesco are different from aldi etc). You have to keep up to date on seasonal offers, vouchers, laws, company regs changes... And you're timed! If you're not working fast enough your job is at risk!

Checkout girl did exactly as she was supposed to, 'furrin' lady quite possibly comes from a country/culture that doesn't queue (few countries do actually op you'd have a flipping heart attack in some of em!)

You got your items now get a grip. And a LOT more life experience.

Graphista · 16/04/2017 20:53

"You are quite right, the situation was totally unreasonable. She should have been at home with her family, not stuck serving you." This with bloody bells on -and I'd apply that to one day a week for everyone doesn't have to be a Sunday!

SmileEachDay · 16/04/2017 20:53

She let the woman stand next to you. Did you think you might catch cooties?

Gazelda · 16/04/2017 20:57

But the cashier did handle the situation well.
She assessed that there was a language barrier which would make it difficult to explain the misunderstanding to the other customer.
She assessed that it would take too long to switch tills,
She recalled which items were your purchases and assumed you would tell her if there was an error.
She made a judgement call to quickly deal with your custom with a cheery smile before moving on to the next customer.
No delay, no mixed up shopping, no queue jumping, no raised voices. All good.

100feet · 16/04/2017 20:58

The significance is that shops do not need to be open on public holidays! Its not an essential service and shop workers deserve time off with family or friends.

SoloDance · 16/04/2017 20:59

Tesco do pay more than minimum wage and I'm not sure that calling her job shitty is on. It's not a shitty job it's a job.

Andrewofgg · 16/04/2017 21:02

Good news OP.

Go back tomorrow and you will find that Tesco sell grips too.

And I'm going to buy a toss and then not give it.

hellejuice91 · 16/04/2017 21:05

She tried. The customer didn't pick them up. Nothing more she could do. YABU
