AIBU?

To be a bit annoyed at this supermarket worker?

Went to the local Tesco Express and had waited ages in the queue (it was very busy and I do appreciate that) but I finally got to the till and was being served by a young girl (could be anywhere between 16-26) and it was going fine, but then some lady came up and was putting her items on the till too, I said I was still being served and she just said "yes" and she didn't speak very good English, so it was quite hard to explain. The girl on till said the same thing and told her to please pick up her items while she serves me, but the lady still didn't move and so the worker just kept on serving me? She left the other lady's items there and didn't attempt to move them and didn't ask the lady to move and there were 4 other tills empty so could have moved over to serve me?

AIBU?

I would have been a bit Hmmat the woman but would have probably just shared an eye roll with the girl.

What did you want her to do? Stop serving you, take ages trying to explain to someone who doesn't understand to move her things, delaying you for a while. I think that she just tried to serve you as quickly as she could and not hinder you.

Ok so how would you have dealt with the situation baring in mind the language barrier? Stop, sign on to another till, move all the items over? That would have delayed you. Then what if other cheeky customer moves all her stuff over too? I'm sure there would have been no confusion regarding purchases given your desperation to jump on the girl's ability to do her job. Seriously get a hobby

Where did you want the woman's stuff moved to?

Were you hoping for compensation?

Moved to the right? They were almost directly on the scanner. Clearly I'm being sensitive, but it was very annoying!

You're making a mountain out of a molehill. What were you hoping the girl would do? Engage in a full blown argument and make it take longer to finish serving you? It's a bit silly to say things like "potential confusion as to whose items were what" - would both you and the rude lady just have let her scan the wrong items and put them in with the other person's things?

I'm really not sure what you were hoping would happen here to be honest.

I always use the serve yourself tills in Tesco Express. Less confusing. Grin

You've clearly never worked in retail. What were you expecting her to do? You got served!
People like you who judge younger retail workers are part of the reason a lot of them hate the job. Well done Hmm

It doesn't seem like the girl has any choice but to do what she did. Not sure what the issue is tbh.

Well every little helps...

So she served you first, she asked the lady to move politely, she remembered which items were yours and she thought it would be a lot quicker for you if she stayed at the same till rather than switching. What a rude, stupid young cah Hmm.

Confused

Gosh, OP. Getting up everyday and just living must be truly exhausting if this is worth a post.

I guess you have never worked on a till before? No, she couldnt' have moved tills. She'd have to either move her own cash box over or cash off both tills at the end of the night, assuming both were actually set up. And if someone else was signed onto the other tills she doubly couldn't have moved over. (because you're responsible for the balance of your own till at the end of your shift/the day). So yes, very unreasonable but understandable for people who haven't worked with cash and customers

This happened at my till all the time when I worked in a small supermarket. It's annoying but there's not really anything you can do.

You either had a lot of items and were therefore in a basket so no confusion, or you only had a few that you had carried and so the lady working on the till knew which were yours.

Also, not only is it time consuming to swap tills, often management won't allow it unless your till stops working. They restrict who is on which tills so there is less guess work if money goes missing.

I think you are annoyed with the wrong person. The other customer was the one at fault. Rather than getting annoyed with the employer who was doing her job appropriately, you could have had a pointless disagreement with the other customer yourself.

There is war going on in the world and people worry about stupid petty things like this? Really? What has the world come to?

Really? Also you can't just switch to another till they need to be on, cashed up, logged in, float checks, cashing up etc Hmm

And there's no confusion when you've got a bloody tongue in your head and can speak out and say what's yours and what isn't!!!

Okay, I didn't know that about the tills. I'm laughing now, so thank you. I guess this thread is a bit pointless, but some things really do annoy me.
