The other half days you cannot wear a jumper without a t-shirt underneath but then complains he's too hot. I wear a jumper but no t-shirt underneath
Whose right

"You don't want armpit sweat on an outer layer of clothing."

But perhaps if you didn't have the tshirt as well, you wouldn't be sweating so much!!

NoSquirrels · 17/04/2017 08:39

Jumpers are also referred to as "pullovers", which surely indicates they are designed to go "over" something else.

Jumper/sweater/hoodie over just a bra - I'd assume you'd dressed in a hurry and/or run out of tops as you'd forgotten to do the laundry...

I am generally cold rather than hot though, so if you're opposite perhaps it's different?

diddl · 17/04/2017 09:29

Isn't it a "pullover" because you pull it over your head to get it on?

kaputt · 17/04/2017 10:32

Jumper is for serious chill/outdoor conditions and under it you have a different top. This is often a tshirt.

It'd be like wearing a coat and nothing under it. Or should I not even ask you about that OP.

DermotOLogical · 17/04/2017 10:36

You wear a hoodie without a t shirt?! So strange.

Trills · 17/04/2017 10:40

You are the one that is weird.

I grew up believing that one must ALWAYS wear a tshirt under a jumper.

I think this was to save on washing (washing t-shirts is easy, washing jumpers is harder) but also because jumpers at the time would not be comfortable next to the skin.

Now I have some jumpers that are comfortable next to the skin, but I nearly always wear something underneath them.

Armpits sweat regardless of being hot. Well mine do anyway!

gamerwidow · 17/04/2017 17:12

I wear jumpers with or without Tshirts/vests underneath depending on the weather and the jumper. I wouldn't wear a jumper for multiple days either so I don't understand the need to protect it from my body. Surely no one wears a jumper just for warmth it's a top in its own right.

HateSummer · 17/04/2017 19:22

I wear jumpers for warmth. It's another layer. Why on earth would someone not wear a jumper for warmth? Confused

gamerwidow · 17/04/2017 19:29

Yes but you don't wear it just for warmth surely? Don't you wear it because you like the way it looks in which case why not wear it without a top underneath it it's too warm to put a top under there. When I put a jumper on I intend it to be seen all day not taken on and off like a coat.

HateSummer · 17/04/2017 22:18

I wear a jumper because I need added warmth on a cold day. I will take it off if I get hot. Obviously you buy clothes that look nice...women buy lingerie because it looks nice, but you wouldn't walk around in it showing off. Clothes have a purpose, aswell as looking nice.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 17/04/2017 22:25

A hoodie would be too draughty without a t-shirt underneath as the warm air would escape too easily due to the baggy fit and therefore you'd be too cold. A t-shirt underneath means you can remove the jumper/ hoodie if you are too warm. A jumper on its own is a huge gamble on conditions being just right and very stable.

Layering is the best method for comfort.

gamerwidow · 18/04/2017 19:07

Speak for yourself HateSummer Wink (grumblingly concedes I do in fact keep lingerie (mostly) out of sight)

QuinionsRainbow · 18/04/2017 21:19

Never been a fan of layering - which is why I had a melt-down as a 6yo when Mum took me into M&S to get me new vests for the new school year and why even now I prefer to wear just one layer. So, in winter it's thickish jumpers (sans t-shirt or vest), in spring/autumn it's thinnish jumpers (worn ditto), and in summer (whe we get one) just a really thin jumper, a t-shirt or a vest top. Obviously the itch-factor of the wool is important, but acrylic blends work well and are easily washable.
