AIBU to feel sorry for the poor Giraffe? She has thousands of people on Facebook gawping at her vag while she's in labour.

No, just no.

I don't think she actually knows though...

RatOnnaStick · 15/04/2017 13:38

Pretty sure she doesn't care.

HateSummer · 15/04/2017 13:40

She should sue them.

VimFuego101 · 15/04/2017 13:50

Imagine the AIBU thread if April was on MN...

Notso · 15/04/2017 13:52

I feel sorry for every animal looked after by humans from snails to cats and dogs to giraffes and lions. I see why it's done but I still feel sorry for them.

Bleurghghghgh · 15/04/2017 13:53

I'm a bit cynical about the whole thing. I mean, she's obviously pregnant but isn't it impossible for them to have got the due date this wrong seeing as giraffes only mate to reproduce so it would have been pretty clear when they actually conceived as they would have then not mated from that point on?

AliceKlar · 15/04/2017 13:54

I totally agree. I know she doesn't realise she is being constantly filmed but somehow that makes it even more exploitative imo. Labour and birth is a private thing and she should only have those around her who are caring for her.

It's not entertainment.Or it shouldn't be imo.

NickMyLipple · 15/04/2017 13:55

Apparently giraffes have a 2 month window within the gestation period.

It's happening now though coz there's 2 hooves hanging out!

HateSummer · 15/04/2017 13:55

She's been in labour since February as far as I'm aware..I thought she'd given birth to it already.

Mummyoflittledragon · 15/04/2017 14:15

Maybe liken her to a royal princess in the court of Versailles?

LapdanceShoeshine · 15/04/2017 16:26

They have a 17-day season

Mating "behaviour" was observed in Oct 2015. They assumed that was it (hence the Feb 24 thing) but evidently not. There must have been other episodes Grin

Going by the 17-day thing due dates might have been Mar 13, Mar 30 or - tada! - Apr 16.

Today is DS2's birthday so he'll be pleased

MrsJayy · 15/04/2017 16:35

Millions tune into one born every minute you see right up foofs on that surely a non intrusive webcam is nothing in comparison anyway baby has arrived at last.

sonjadog · 15/04/2017 16:37

We have a baby giraffe!!!!

NapQueen · 15/04/2017 16:38

Cant imagine she cares.

And if an animal is being kept in captivity for the public to visit and learn about well, birth is part and parcel of that imo.

OddBoots · 15/04/2017 16:38

www.iucnredlist.org/details/9194/0 - given that they are on the vulnerable list I think interest in the baby giraffes being born is generally a good thing.

sonjadog · 15/04/2017 18:37

Baby giraffe is looking a bit stunned.

MrsJayy · 15/04/2017 19:03

Baby fell about 8ft yeah its looking stunned Grin

BeyondUser24601 · 15/04/2017 19:19

I hope one of April's giraffe mum friends shared the www.haveyouhadthatbabyyet.com link with her Grin

NotStoppedAllDay · 15/04/2017 19:30

The sponsorship changed to babiesrus from tosrus, in the baby's honour....cute

Is it a boy or girl do we know?

Birdsgottaf1y · 15/04/2017 19:40

She's having a much better time than all the dairy cows, racing dogs/horses. If you want a 'cause' to get upset about, hers isn't it.

Meanwhile Orla the giraffe gave birth, in Chester Zoo, they've called her son Narus.

Chester Zoo thinks that they've got their dates badly wrong.

helpimitchy · 15/04/2017 20:21

I think it's fine as long as she's well taken care of. At least neither of them will be eaten by a lion Smile

AliceKlar · 15/04/2017 23:01

The thing about One Born Every Minute is that the women who appear on it get a choice. They can say no they don't want to go in it. April can't really give her consent though can she. Unless they've taught her to tap her hoof once for yes and twice for no.
