Mum won't give birth certificates

Ok. So I don't want to turn this into a brexit thread but...
I need to get my Irish passport, My sister ( who lives in Europe, has a mortgage etc) really needs to get her Irish passport. She is going to lose her job unless she either naturalises or gets her Irish passport. She flew over to get the needed documents from my mum - an Irish citizen (my nans birth certificate etc). My mum said she didn't know where they were ( she did) when pressed she refused to hand them over saying they weren't to leave the house. My sister saw the documents but my mum refuses to let her borrow them. Enter my dad who says ' brexit won't happen' um, it already has...
I'm really confused, she basically said we cannot have my grandmothers documents. It's not like she even liked the woman! My parents have always been very controlling but this is beyond weird as they know my sisters only alternative is to marry her BF which she isn't keen on.

it too you have to get yourself put on the register of foreign births first, this will confer Irish citizenship on you. When you're a registered citizen you can apply for a passport. I think you can do that online too.

apply to be put on the register of foreign births here

Oh no itstoo I was wrong. If your parents are Irish born in Ireland then you're already an Irish citizen and can just apply directly for a passport.

As you're a first time applicant you can click here and request an APS2 form. They will post it to you.

@grayjane: yes. I already know 2 people that haven't been hired that are British citizens because of the uncertainty. Officially they won't say it but it was said verbally as the reason.

I have ordered my great grandmothers Irish birth certificate for my father to apply for his Irish passport. It was very easy but unfortunately the name on the birth certificate and all other documents are different, she obviously changed her name on coming to the Uk. Despite this the Irish Registry service have been very helpful.

Thanks @eats coincidentally my forms arrived in the post today. I had requested them 3 times... don't know why previous 2 requests were ignored. Probably volume of requests! And yes, I am an Irish citizen
100% on all sides of family 😀

I ordered my grandparents birth certificates online. It's probably the best option so that you don't have to engage with your mother's games.
