To find the increasing humanisation of animals ridiculous?

I will start by saying that I am a huge animal lover. I studied animal care at college, have worked in a boarding kennels and volunteered at my local city Farm.

I totally understand the bond between humans and their pets and know people wish to treat them on occasion. However on visiting a local pet shop today I find dog perfume, cat and dog beer and wine, including something called pursecco and bottom sniffer, along with full size dog easter eggs for sale! Not to mention the little outfits they sell for dogs.
Am I being unreasonable in thinking the humanisation of animals has gone just a little far?

Yanbu - it's ridiculous. I do consider my dog to be my baby and she is definitely one of the family . One year she did have a doggie advent calender.
is the perfume to disguise the smell of when they roll in fox shit ordead fish? This is my cockapoo's favourite scent !!

YANBU, but where there's a market for that crap people are going to churn it out to sell to fools who would do better to buy a stuffed toy.
The only perfume a dog needs is from a good run in the fresh air and a swim in a river.

YANBU, but it's in the nature of capitalism to find ever more useless and ridiculous items to sell to people (cf bottled water in the country that has the safest tap water in the world)
the reasons why people are susceptible to these kinds of products is another question

Hmmmm, they're just gifts though. We have increasing 'giftitisation'.

So I'm not really thinking people are buying them for their pets.

Though I do put my dog in t-shirts/kilts/outfits as she looks AMAZING

Some of the stuff seems a bit ridiculous, but things like dog Easter eggs and advent calendars have been available for years. Dogs seem to like them and it stops them trying to steal ours

I had an email from a big pet store today selling paddling pools for dogs.

I am very much a cat person, but I don't feel the need to dress mine in clothes weirdly. Because she's a cat.

What about the dogs in strollers?

YABU -- what harm does it do? I think it's very clever as people often spend more money on their pets than other family members.

I very much doubt the dogs that the perfume is brought for have much of an opportunity to swim in rivers or roll in fox poo sadly. One of the scents was called 'Old Spike'!

What?! I am buying my dog a padding pool for this summer. Why not? He is always splashing the water out of his water bowl - he'll love it.

I think the worst bit is pet owners think their pets have human thought and emotions. They really don't.

I've seen quite a few dog strollers. They're mostly used for very elderly and disabled dogs. There's one down my street pushed by a very bent over elderly man.

I get a lump in my throat when I see them as I hope him and his collie die together as they seem so old and dependant on each other

I always feel sad for dogs in clothes.
Dogs don't need clothes. They have fur. It's really unnatural for them and can make them very uncomfortable as it interferes with their ability to control their body temperature. It also constructs their movement.
People do it for their own entertainment not for the dog's wellbeing.

Some of it seems dangerous. That carrier looks awful, dogs aren't meant to be positioned like that. I hate the silly shoes that make them walk funny.
Things that are just harmless fun dont bother me. I don't dress my dog up or buy pursecco but if other people want to waste their money it's not my business.

Thinking up dog perfume names based on well-known fragrance brands must be quite fun for those who do it.

If you cant love your dog because he's a dog, you dont love your dog. You love some image you have in your head of what they are supposed to be.
