To find the increasing humanisation of animals ridiculous?

I will start by saying that I am a huge animal lover. I studied animal care at college, have worked in a boarding kennels and volunteered at my local city Farm.

I totally understand the bond between humans and their pets and know people wish to treat them on occasion. However on visiting a local pet shop today I find dog perfume, cat and dog beer and wine, including something called pursecco and bottom sniffer, along with full size dog easter eggs for sale! Not to mention the little outfits they sell for dogs.
Am I being unreasonable in thinking the humanisation of animals has gone just a little far?

I love the pet department in Harrods. It is the funniest thing - even more snort-worthy than the truly tacky de luxe bling furniture department.

If I die from cuteness overload, it will be that hamster's fault!!!!!!!!

I'm a firm,y paid up member of the prefer the company of dogs to humans mindset. However, it is daft to think that pets need clothes and perfume etc. But if it's not doing them harm and they are otherwise loved and cared for then why judge? Animals don't judge us. They just love us.

That is why I would definitely pay for any and all treatment for my dogs if they were ill and injured and there was a good chance of them having decent, pain free quality of life after. When I was much younger I had a beloved tabbycat who was taken ill - the vet recommended that he was pts without even doing anything other than a cursory exam. I agreed because I was young and he was very adamant that it was the best thing to do. Years later I still wonder if I did the right thing. I hate the thought that I might have agreed to end a life unnecessarily, or, as a now suspect, because I was a scruffy student who he didn't think could pay the bill (I could btw as I'd just had access to my trust fund, but that's not the point).

On the subject of 'furbabies', I hate when people post "so worried, my girl is in hospital", I panic about their daughter, but it turns out it's the cat at the vet.

Caring about pets is one thing, having your dog's ashes in pride of place on the mantlepiece is fine if a bit odd, but cats are not children!

They are like a child to them, why does it matter to you? Hmm

floraeasy · 15/04/2017 17:57

With pets like this, who needs children?

frilleyhorseyknickers how can you possibly know that the people dressing up and spoiling their dogs at weekends shove them in the garden all week and don't look near them Hmm

I have 3 Pugs 2 of them have been dressing up since they were Pups, at Christmas we had reindeer outfits and a little sledge, we raised 200 quid for a local charity, at the same time I got a rescue Pug, I didn't dress her up as she had been traumatised and was shy of people, two months later I did another event, Pugs n Kisses for Valentines day all the Pugs were dressed up in little heart costumes and sold Pug kisses, this time my rescue Pug princess joined in the fun totally different Pug now loves people and is sociable due to a lot of hard work by me.

Tomorrow all 3 will have bunny ears and bunny tails and will join the Easter parade.

Great picture BTW Flora
