Who would the Russians want to win the U.K. general election? Hmm

GingerIvy · 18/04/2017 21:50

An awful lot of people pointing out on that tweet that Melania doesn't live in the WH either. hahahahaha

cozietoesie · 18/04/2017 21:50

He can't leave it alone though, can he?

It depends on the estimates guesses. It could be 10 million, it could be 10 billion, or 10 trilliin. I'll let you know next week, but it will be bigly.

So the difference between first and fourth right now in France is 3 points. True margin of error in France polls is something like 7.5 pts.

cozietoesie · 18/04/2017 22:00

Thank you, Lweji. Grin

cozietoesie · 18/04/2017 22:03

I recall one of our French acquaintances being in tears once because I was teasing him about losing ...............the Battle of Agincourt. Real tears.

That's what you're dealing with, I fear. Wink

Lweji · 18/04/2017 22:06

Ah, cozie, I'll make sure to point any local French tourists to our local battle victory sites.
Something along the lines of: are you aware that Napoleon invaded three times and you guys were chased out? Every single time.

saffronwblue · 18/04/2017 22:07

Completely agree that these threads are for any scary global politics watching. Trump, May, Erdogan, Putin- such a great list.

cozietoesie · 18/04/2017 22:11

I wouldn't, Lweji. They take it all dreadfully seriously, I fear. Grin

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 18/04/2017 22:16

I'm feeling very nervous about the outcome tonight - despite my best efforts at not getting carried away, I can't help but imagine how brilliant it would be if Ossoff won. I think it's the only thing that would redeem what has otherwise been a truly shit day.

The flip side is that if he doesn't get over 50%, I think I might have to avoid twitter because trump's gloating will be unbearable.

Gah, I should go up to sleep but I'd rather go to bed knowing the result than waking up to it.

Roussette · 18/04/2017 22:21

I think Osoff winning would give such a boost to anti Trumpers. I read somewhere that no Dem has got even near 40% there before so let's hope, if he doesn't win, he gets to fight again.

cozietoesie · 18/04/2017 22:28

I don't see him getting to that magic number, Pain. But that is such a strong Republican seat - I mean incredibly so - that 45 has no grounds for crowing even if there is a run-off.

cozietoesie · 18/04/2017 22:37

Remember that even if there were to be a run-off - and 45's advisers assuaged him about how 'We couldn't have done it without your intervention Yadda Yadda ' - it's sending a quite terrifying message to the House of Representatives in particular.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 18/04/2017 23:04

I know, it's not very likely he'll get there outright but it would be such a welcomed symbol of hope and grass roots activism working if he could pull it off - which would salve some of this election angst.

Still, as you said earlier, we persist regardless.

cozietoesie · 18/04/2017 23:10

The fact that the GOP - and 45 - are so terrified is reward enough, probably. I'd very much like him to win outright, it's just that I don't think he will. The message will get through, though. Smile

cozietoesie · 18/04/2017 23:13

They can pour resources and people at one 'special' after all - but they can't do that when all the House of Representatives' seats are up for election. Oh Yes, the message will get through. (And will be heard sooner than 2018.)

Yes that's true - must focus on the bigger picture.
