Trump: Abuse of the US immigration system is allowing American workers to be "replaced"

This from the man that has loads of non-US workers at his businesses, Maralago in particular.

BiglyBadgers · 18/04/2017 20:52

I know we have been posting about it Ginger, but I as it is all kicking off big style I didn't want this thread to get taken over if people aren't wanting to discuss it here. I thought it might be helpful to outline what the purpose was before any bunfight about it happened. I do like some clear criteria though, so I might just be getting fretty and trying to impose order in an effort to sooth my tattered nerves Blush

I am a bit befuddled by the tory funding business as I would have thought that the timing would be bad for the tories as convictions are due to be announced just before the election. Surely having a load of your MPs arrested before an election is traditionally considered bad for your chances Confused

Go with the flow, Bigly.

Deep breaths, happy thoughts, deep breaths, happy thoughts...ommmmm...... I shall be as a wave on the shore, but not one of the polluted ones made sludgy and brown due to the removal of anti-pollution legislation, oh no, one of the nice ones with alive fish...ommm....

Strewth. What wave would that be? Grin

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 18/04/2017 21:06

bigly there's another mn thread that I'm finding really informative about upcoming election:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/eu_referendum_2016_/2906351-Westministenders-Wake-up-and-smell-the-coffee-shit-just-hit-the-fan

But I'm happy to discuss whatever comes up on here! It's all related in the grand scheme of things and there's no such thing as being over-informed Smile

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 18/04/2017 21:07

In light of the snap election (otherwise known as Brexit: The Sequel) and the fact that we have talked on and off about the links and overlaps between the Brexit referendum and the election of Trump, plus the threat of another influx of fake news, trolling and bots that now seems to be part of any election, can we expand the remit of this thread to include a UK election watch. I am thinking particularly of terrifying lurches to the right, fake news and any dodgy dealing?

I'm all for a critical eye on political goings-on on both sides of the Atlantic. It's also helpful to have the key points in one place 'cause I'm back in work now & busy busy. Stay frosty, folks!

AcrossthePond55 · 18/04/2017 21:17

I'm sure there will be multiple MN threads on the UK election. But I still think you all should feel free to post on the Trump thread, too.

I think it's safe to say that many of you have learnt more about US politics and how our government works since these threads started than you ever thought you would. Now it's our turn to learn from you! I have a basic knowledge (very basic) of the UK parliamentary system. I look forward to learning more and how your elections actually 'work'! By-elections? Hustings?

After all, this thread is representative of our 'special relationship', isn't it? Wink

BiglyBadgers · 18/04/2017 21:18

Thanks Pain. I have wandered over to that lovely looking thread you mention. :)

BiglyBadgers · 18/04/2017 21:20

Across a by-election is an election of a single MP caused by the death or resignation of a sitting MP during the term of government. I think it is basically like the special election you are having in Georgia at the moment (if I have understood the background right).

HelsinkiLights · 18/04/2017 21:26

Bigly thank you & yes it would drive Trump insane in enforced witness protection Smile

Cozie I misread your post as the Kardashians are back soon. Wink
Though do think Momma Kris would probably do a better job of running the USA. She'd have Putin doing bareback horse riding tricks on America's Got Talent & Kim Jong-in starring in his own Truman style reality show.

I'm still convinced we've flipped into a parallel universe around 18 months ago, as you really couldn't make all this stuff up.

Across As an American living in the UK, I get the jollies of worrying about how both will affect us. Oh the joy.

GingerIvy · 18/04/2017 21:49

Meh. That's old news, Trump. Already been addressed. He is living 1.5 miles outside the district temporarily to support his girlfriend while she is in medical school, and then they are moving back into the district. it's his home area, his family is there. He is literally 1.5 miles outside of the boundaries. That is all. He's been very up front about it.
