To start smoking weed?

marleybob · 13/04/2017 18:58

Single parent. Find the days stressful and long and the evenings boring and lonely. WIBU to start smoking weed to help me chill out? Can't ask anyone in real life, don't know where I'd get it from mind but it seems appealing ?

I had it in totally different circumstances as a teen, often at the end of a night where I'd already been drinking so that's not the case now, wouldn't feel the same.

Cannabis is vile.

Every male under 30 I've been hospitalised with in the past has one thing in common. DH believes smoking it in his younger days is the reason he has paranoid schizophrenia now.

It fucks your head up. I'm an ex addict (not weed) I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

BlueDaBaDee · 13/04/2017 20:01

When your kids reach school age you could find yourself reported to ss. Smoking illegal drugs is a safeguarding concern.

Ss wouldn't give a shit about two parents sharing a joint while their healthy, happy kids are tucked up in bed. You clearly have no idea about how worrying things have to be before ss get involved.

That being said, I wouldn't op. When I was younger, I got addicted to it and had to smoke it every night to be able to sleep. I thought it helped me relax and calmed my anxiety, but I was actually loads less anxious when I jacked it in altogether. Horrible stuff if your minds not made for it

PollytheDolly · 13/04/2017 20:01

Passive weed smoking? If you intend to smoke that in your house with your kids there....

Anyway what the fuck are you on about. Go buy a MINI bottle of wine and fill your boots if you're that way inclined.

I'm not against weed, for pain relief etc and I drink wine myself but I have my reasons for thinking you're being a bit of a knob thinking this way.

Wolfiefan · 13/04/2017 20:02

As an ex teacher I do actually know that parents having illegal drugs in the house would be a safeguarding concern.

BlueDaBaDee · 13/04/2017 20:02

Sharing a joint outside, I should say. If they were going to school smelling of it, that would obviously be a concern.

GinIsIn · 13/04/2017 20:03

Have you considered knitting? Or perhaps yoga? or waxing your hairy hands Hmm

FloralCouchPants · 13/04/2017 20:03

@Wolfiefan
Not illegal where I am. And show me your information. Because in my own personal experience it has helped tremendously with anxiety and depression. There have not been many long term studies on the effects of pot so again I'd like to see your information. There have been many studies on the long term effects of alcohol and people die from alcohol daily.

imjessie · 13/04/2017 20:06

Don't do it .. everyone I know who smokes it is messed up in the head ! Paranoid / anxiety/ depression!!!

SpreadYourHappiness · 13/04/2017 20:06

YABVU. I think it's disgusting behaviour to take illegal drugs, and you'll be the sorry one when you get the horrific long term effects.

Wolfiefan · 13/04/2017 20:06

There are lots of studies that show a link between MH issues and weed. It is absolutely a bloody awful idea to smoke it so regularly if you already have MH issues.
I choose not to drink heavily or smoke a drug either.

FloralCouchPants · 13/04/2017 20:09

Weed does not cause MH problems. It may make it worse for some who already have them, but it is not the reason for them. Mine started well before I started smoking pot.

UnbornMortificado · 13/04/2017 20:10

I've worked in MH for 8 years different departments. I have never met a MH worker who smokes cannabis.

I'm not the only addict on this thread.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 13/04/2017 20:13

Correlation does not prove causation

Wolfiefan · 13/04/2017 20:14

Rc of psychiatrists reports a link to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. There are lots of potential risks to mental health. Weed tends to make existing conditions worse. Not better.

marleybob · 13/04/2017 20:16

To pp who mentioned knitting, I love knitting and do have hobbies! But I'm sat here with a large glass of wine as do many of my friends in the evening but that's socially acceptable once kids are in bed.. so was thinking would I be better off smoking weed than drinking wine to chill.. I don't know? Honest question

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 13/04/2017 20:20

Don't do anything to chill out that could be addictive or damage your health. Exercise is my way of winding down.

UnbornMortificado · 13/04/2017 20:20

Smoking weed daily makes you a drug addict, doesn't matter how you sugarcoat it.

I don't drink I couldn't tell you the average amount, I'm bi-polar with addiction issues, I don't want to end up with an alcohol problem as well.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 13/04/2017 20:26

I don't take anything- drink, drugs or tobacco but even so I think it's strange that some people on this forum see alcohol as better for someone than weed and wouldn't look twice at someone having a glass or two of wine at night.

oleoleoleole · 13/04/2017 20:37

No no no. Please don't. It's illegal and dangerous.

SpreadYourHappiness · 13/04/2017 20:37

Weed does cause mental health problems, whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

Instasista · 13/04/2017 20:39

Wolfie schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are very rare- it's not something the average person should really be worrying about is it? Confused

BitchQueen90 · 13/04/2017 20:40

I'm a single parent. I have stressful days. I find evenings boring sometimes. I don't need illegal drugs to chill out and I find it weird that people do to be honest. Neither do I have a drink every night. Relying on substances isn't really the answer IMO. Confused

passmethewineplease · 13/04/2017 20:44

I wouldn't, especially if you are the sole carer for your child.

What if there was some sort of accident and you needed to drive but you couldn't as you were high?

One glass of wine doesn't effect you in the same way a spliff does if I remember rightly? I don't know, I was a teenager when I smoked it!

UnbornMortificado · 13/04/2017 20:48

It's really not rare.

I have bi-polar, my DH has schizophrenia. Quite a few posters either have one of those illnesses or their partner does.
