There is a woman on the train with me...

Who is literally reading her book aloud.

She started mouthing, then very quietly, almost breathing the words and now she's whispering quite loudly.

She's sitting opposite me and wearing noise cancelling headphones.

It's quite annoying, but also I sometimes find myself accidentally reading aloud and would be mortified if it was me.

Her book is quite racy.

AIBU to somehow let her know??

did you at least ask is the book was good? Grin

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 13/04/2017 17:56

aah err Nora

Not Ooooh Ahhhhh Zak!

stumblymonkeyremix · 13/04/2017 17:57

This just made me snort and snigger on the train too. But not read out loud even with noise cancelling earphones.

I did however get disturbed by DP at home yesterday dancing around with them on...apparently singing out loud. I had no idea I wasn't just miming Confused

OnePlanOnHouzz · 13/04/2017 18:01

So I'm sitting in this train - engrossed in my book ... ha ! Not really !! But would be funny if she reads this !!! Smile

WicksEnd · 13/04/2017 18:02

Brilliant op. Now you're the one that's crackers Grin

NotInMyBackYard1 · 13/04/2017 18:02

pahahahahahahahahaha crying laughing here at 'ahh er Nora' Grin

NotAlice · 13/04/2017 18:04

Oh fuck. My commute is big long train journey- walk to tube (across the road)- tube a few stops- home. Most people get off the big long train journey earlier at a station with car parking.

My new friend not only stayed on the train but now I'm walking behind her down to the tube! She's going to think she's got a stalker. There's a 50/50 chance we get on the same line fingers crossed

If the reading continues on the tube I will be unable to update you due to lack of tubular wifi

See if her phone has Bluetooth enabled and send her a text, something to the tune of "that book sounds great!"

TheDogsMother · 13/04/2017 18:07

On the train I used to travel on there was often a couple who would read verses of the Bible to each other then gaze into each others eyes smiling gently. Nothing against the Bible of course but it was all a little odd

IloveBanff · 13/04/2017 18:07

Having got her attention I would have said "Do you realise you were reading out loud?" I'm not 100% sure "ahh err Nora" is quite the same, but I suppose so. Grin Has she not spoken to you apart from the initial "Excuse me?"

BabychamSocialist · 13/04/2017 18:10

Oh, it's a Mills & Boon book. That explains the animal themes. They always seem to be shagging in a barn or a marsh or something. Not that I've read several of them...

ohfourfoxache · 13/04/2017 18:13

I've just snorted at this - absolutely brilliant Grin

Littlebelina · 13/04/2017 18:17

We were on a train the other week where a teenager (15ish at a guess) was reading erotic frozen fan fiction out loud to her friend. They'd obviously been on a school trip and their teachers were in the same carriage ignoring them. Be greatful for Nora OP, it'll be a while before I can watch Elsa and Anna again.

ForalltheSaints · 13/04/2017 18:19

Why not wait for the next tube? It cannot be long.

kingsleysbootlicker · 13/04/2017 18:21

It def sounds like The Siren... it's the first book in a series called the Original Sinners and it's where my name is from Wink

harderandharder2breathe · 13/04/2017 18:32

You made me snort and chuckle out loud on my train now too!

But I'm faaaaairly sure I'm not reading aloud

Daydream007 · 13/04/2017 18:33

Leave her to it.

ImNotWhoYouThinkIAmOhNo · 13/04/2017 18:57

Not many threads make me laugh out loud, but this one has. aah err Nora indeed! Grin Grin Grin

RockNRollNerd · 13/04/2017 18:58

Zack and Sofa could be Pandora by Jilly Cooper - other characters are Trafford, Jonathan, Emerald, Sienna, Alizarin and Anthea, Sofa is what Sophy is sometimes called because she's so fat (which in Jilly land means she's all of about 10 stone. (have just finished re-reading it yesterday - to myself, not out loud I hasten to add!).

NotAlice · 13/04/2017 19:09

We did get on the same tube but she artfully disappeared. She did seem to realise what she'd done as she put the kindle away

I am now home and about to dig out the kindle Grin

Thank you for keeping me company on my commute!!

Threads like these are my favourite thing about Mumsnet. Thanks OP, you've made my evening (and even distracted me from my new Donna Leon: almost certainly a shag free zone!) Grin

BabychamSocialist · 13/04/2017 22:16

RockNRollNerd

I love that about Jilly Cooper. Anyone described as "fat" will mean "someone who has actual hips and has done a real job" Grin

HappyFlappy · 13/04/2017 22:33

MILLS and BOON?!?!?!?! Dear God in heaven . . . .

Personally I would have been tempted to ask her to make it more exciting by doing the voices and making orgasm noises and stuff . . .

lisaIambe · 13/04/2017 23:47

I read aloud on the train Blush I figured it's no less annoying than someone on the phone, am I breaking a golden rule of commuting? I don't do it in English, I'm in grad school learning two notoriously difficult languages in a year long intensive and we're told to read out loud to help make the association with the alphabet. So even if it was racy, most people around me would have no idea, if that makes it any better Grin

BillyButtfuck · 14/04/2017 00:12

This thread is hilarious GrinGrin
