After 23 years of marriage I have my own place for the first time. I do love it it most of the time but this is my first long weekend on my own.
I'm self employed & work from home so don't see many people on a day to day basis. Finances are absolutely pitiful.
Its only 4.45 & it already seems like I have hours stretching ahead of me.
Nearly all my friends have fabulous plans with their families.
Sorry for the poor me party - just feeling bored and generally blurgh

You will be fine. It just takes a bit of getting used to. All that time and what to fill it with! Well nothing except eating and drinking and relaxing really, with a bit of outdoors stuff thrown in so you don't turn into a troglodyte!

And good lord, your working hours are savage. Time to recharge and relax now love. Enjoy.

As a single parent of 3.5 years, what I have found to be helpful is in the weeks leading up to a Bank Hol (that you know will be a big empty hole of nothingness), is to cram as much social activity in as possible. As much as child and work free time allows. By the time the Bank Hol comes around (when everyone else is doing family/ couple things) I'm glad of some time to myself.

Flowers to all those feeling lonely or isolated this long weekend.

Go out every day even if it's for a short while otherwise you'll go stir crazy, might be worth looking into any free events around? I braved a few hippy poetry events by myself once and got chatting to some lovely people

Long walks with a pub. I do.

I have been thinking recently that I would love some time to myself. I'm either at work or with DS and /or DP.

If I had 4 days alone, I would miss DS terribly but I would

Go to London for the day. I work there but never see it properly so I'd go to all the museums
Get my nails and hair done
Binge watch something fluffy like Gossip Girl with a nice bottle of wine
Play sims or cities skylines for hours on end . I have withdrawal symptoms from both at the moment lol

I hope that you find a way to enjoy yourself this weekend :)

Cinema perhaps?

Isthereanybodythere · 13/04/2017 18:23

yelllow and mermaid
1:48 dosshouses made me chuckle, very niche hobby. I think it might be doll houses ?

I know how you feel. I dreaded holidays when I first broke up with my husband, time off of work gave me too much time to think, it does get better if that's of any comfort.

Can you keep really busy? Deep clean the house, do some gardening, exercise, de- clutter and put things for sale on Facebook or eBay, read a book, make a new recipe, buy a bullet journal, plan days trips or holidays for the rest of the year.

When we feel lonely everyone else's lives look so interesting and full of camaraderie. They probably aren't in reality

This in absolute SPADES!!!!!

You have a fire - sounds utter bliss. You can do it op.....

Almostthere15 · 13/04/2017 19:25

It sounds as if you have a really positive plan. I find I need to speak to a grown up everyday really, so even if it was the local paper shop I'd drag myself out for a hello and chat about the weather. This feels the longest bank hol for most people so it's natural to be a bit flummoxed. Enjoy!

RaeSkywalker · 13/04/2017 20:28

Sounds like you've got a nice evening planned OP!

I used to live alone and on bank holiday weekends I'd do things like paint my nails, watch lots of TV, go for a swim at the local pool...

Your plan to sell things is excellent!

HappyFlappy · 13/04/2017 22:26

Your planned weekend sounds lovely!

Hope you have a thoroughly relaxing time.
