Does anybody clean behind their cooker? Electrician is coming tomorrow to check the socket behind our ancient oven and it's filthy, is that usual?

Sorry, should have said AIBU for not cleaning behind the oven?

Mine is completely fitted in and doesn't come out, so no, I have never cleaned behind it. It just isn't accessible.

The on/off switch is accessed from the inside of a cupboard.

I pull it out and clean behind every 4 months or so.

Presumably fitted cookers don't need cleaning behind if they're fitted properly!

WatchMeSoar · 12/04/2017 00:26

Clean what you can see, if you can be arsed!

gamerchick · 12/04/2017 00:36

I pull mine out and clean behind it every few months. Amazing what utensils you find.

Free standing cooker though.

Every year or so

HarrietSchulenberg · 12/04/2017 01:19

I've lived in this house for 14.5 years. I've had the cooker out once, about 6 years ago. It was disgusting but I found a heap of stuff that I thought I'd lost.
I really could not face that horror again so choose to ignore it and just clean round it.

highinthesky · 12/04/2017 01:22

I thought this would be a joke. There is something distinctly Godfrey Bloom about the title Grin

anotherpoisonprince · 12/04/2017 01:29

Once a year.
When I know I'm getting a safety check (Yearly). I pull out my cooker, and scrub the place where the cooker usually stands.
To within an inch of its life.

I made my husband get our freestanding one out and clean behind it when I was 9 months pregnant because it was the only nesting thing I couldn't do myself Grin My baby is 19 now and we just had a new kitchen - so when the old cooker came out -ew!

heron98 · 12/04/2017 09:14

er no - why would you?

Crumbs1 · 12/04/2017 09:19

It's an Aga so,not a chance of moving it out. I do ask cleaners to go behind and under dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier though.

gamerchick · 12/04/2017 15:03

er no - why would you?

Because grease smells and even if you get used to the smell it's still there.

e1y1 · 12/04/2017 15:27

I have a freestanding one, clean behind it probably every 2-4 weeks.

Previous house had a built in cooker and hob - so never cleaned behind that one Grin
