To expect my DH to deal with my Asda delivery fuck up?

Falconhoof1 · 11/04/2017 08:15

Yesterday i started an Asda delivery order and thought I'd booked it for Wednesday. To keep my door slot i ordered the most expensive champagne available, thinking i would get it all sorted today. However I've just realised on waking up that my order is booked for today! So i have some champagne and a few other things coming. I'm also working and my DH is off with the kids. So, he's asleep right now but I'm going to have to phone him from work and tell him to get a refund on the champagne. He's not going to be impressed and I feel like a right fool! The other option is to keep the champagne but it's a huge waste of money! Idiot!

But so entertaining Grin

I also hold with champagne- didn't realise so many did! I've not had one delivered yet - don't mind if it does happen!

Bythepowerof · 12/04/2017 10:07

ASDA has a minimum delivery of only £25 and there are loads of £1 available. Weds and Thursday has lots of £1 slots and even Friday have some at £1.50.
Isn't the good thing about online shopping the benefit of buying all your normal stuff without the temptations of in store offers? Surely people buy mostly the same stuff week even if they add a few one off bits.

I also have two saved "shopping lists" on called small shop and one called large shop. Plus it has your lasts orders so you can always just drop one from your previous weeks.
They have made it dead easy so I have no idea why people make it more complicated.

maggienolia · 12/04/2017 10:40

I feel your pain OP.
I did the same but there was a glitch..order disappeared and I couldn't amend it.
Cue very confused Tesco delivery driver carrying 200 fags and a bottle of cough medicine.
And I don't even smoke.

treaclesoda · 12/04/2017 10:54

Asda have a minimum delivery of £40 if you have a delivery pass. If I try to check out with less than £40 it just doesn't allow me to go any further. And once I select the slot I've only got two hours (or possibly three?) to check out otherwise the whole order is cancelled. So if I want a Saturday morning delivery slot, I need to reserve it no later than Thursday, but I'm out on Thursday until bedtime so don't have time to do the order. I don't order £40 of the same stuff each week, so doing a shopping list doesn't help much as it only brings me up to about £25. So the only option is to stick in something expensive to hold the slot.

treaclesoda · 12/04/2017 10:55

Plus I don't know until the day before my grocery shopping what I actually need each time.

OrangeFluff · 12/04/2017 12:03

Bythepower I have a few things that I always order each week: bread, milk, cat food, wine... but mostly each week is completely different depending on what we are eating. If my shop was the same every week I'd be getting very bored of my meals!

CakesAreBiscuitsToo · 12/04/2017 12:07

My save the slot is a £275 bottle of champagne. It keeps things simple and I never forget that I haven't modified my order.

UnicornButtplug · 12/04/2017 12:15

I never buy the same stuff two weeks running, I make differwnt meals all the time so using a previous shop wouldn't work for me. This thread however had inspired me to create a list of the things that I do buy each time, toilet roll, squash, bread, milk. Erm.... That's about it but I will think if others I am sure.

WankingMonkey · 12/04/2017 12:43

Have never thought of doing this..is this why whenever I try to order a shop it costs me bloody 7 quid for delivery as all the cheap ones are gone with people using champagne to preorder slots?! Grin

Odoreida · 12/04/2017 13:10

My friend did this - held her slot with champagne and mini magnums, on a weekend where her PIL were coming to stay and she needed enough food to cook for 8 people. totally forgot about it until it arrived and she heard her children screaming with delight

AllieBomBally · 12/04/2017 18:47

My sister does the same thing to reserve her Asda slot. She did it once for her MIL and forgot to go back and complete the order so when MIL expected her weekly shop to arrive all she got was a bottle of champagne, she was not amused. Nobody realised until she called my BIL to find out where her shopping was!! LOL!

Falconhoof1 · 12/04/2017 22:03

I love how so many of you do the champagne thing too! I wonder if it boosts champagne sales when people get it by accident and just think "oh well..." 🍾

I did this with Ocado last Christmas. In early December I got an email, the gist of which was: "Are you really going to order that champagne because we don't want to over-order champagne at our end and lots of people use it to hold a delivery slot".

Floggingmolly · 12/04/2017 23:27

Why not hold your slot with things you actually want? Confused

NightCzar · 12/04/2017 23:52

I guess because you can hold it with just one thing if it's champagne.

treaclesoda · 13/04/2017 06:58

Why not hold your slot with things you actually want? Because it takes too long to put dozens of small things in the basket.

pineapplepenny · 13/04/2017 07:05

I don't have this problem. I have a saver pass thingy at Tesco. Maybe that makes the difference.
As others have said,no need to add expensive items- just a pint of milk.
It adds the delivery charge , until you ammend and add the things/amount for free delivery!

SamineShaw · 13/04/2017 07:53

I usually just hold my slot with a saved "shopping list" at least if I forget to amend it's stuff I'll use! I never thought to use champagne...

PS I'm so juvenile I just giggled as I typed "hold my slot".. 😳

Cindefuckingrella · 13/04/2017 08:13

I did the exact same thing with boxes of nappies once and realised at a minute past midnight I'd forgotten to amend it. Cue a very early morning call to Asda- they were fine though. I think it must happen a lot!

Whereismumhiding2 · 13/04/2017 08:37

Snort Sammie that made me giggle

Feeling low class cos i save my slot with £9 large washing powder & 2 roast chickens (& my £20 basic favourites list or whatever I've put in basket already). Then, no need to send back, and i have to be creative with chicken meals all week..
I have just learnt on this thread that you can order cigarettes in online shop! Grin ......... But 'get you' champagnes girls!! GrinWine

Anyway OP said earlier on in post, she's already rung in and cancelled order, so DH didn't have to fix it.

Edballsisoneniftydancer · 13/04/2017 08:56

Look will someone please tell me how to do the champagne bottle icon!!!

PrimalLass · 13/04/2017 09:06

I ended up with 3L of vodka that way. It was in the days before bagless deliveries and I didn't realise until too late.

mumeeee · 13/04/2017 09:29

I usually use Teach for my online shop. I have never had to use an expensive item to reserve my slot. I just put a couple of my usuals on and can still check out they just add charges if it's under £40
