To expect my DH to deal with my Asda delivery fuck up?

Yesterday i started an Asda delivery order and thought I'd booked it for Wednesday. To keep my door slot i ordered the most expensive champagne available, thinking i would get it all sorted today. However I've just realised on waking up that my order is booked for today! So i have some champagne and a few other things coming. I'm also working and my DH is off with the kids. So, he's asleep right now but I'm going to have to phone him from work and tell him to get a refund on the champagne. He's not going to be impressed and I feel like a right fool! The other option is to keep the champagne but it's a huge waste of money! Idiot!

Same with Asda Hundra

BarbaraofSeville · 11/04/2017 09:27

Yet another reason why I don't online shop. As well as not been organised enough to decide what I need in advance, I CBA to compete for slots with people who bag their's with champagne.

I do think you're being a little unreasonable though. Your mistake, and unnecessarily convaluted ordering system, has translated into an extra task for him, in needing to remember to refuse the champagne.

Is this the online version of sending your DH/friend to hog reserve a table while you are in the queue at a cafe, leaving all those who've queued up to get their food without anywhere to sit and eat it?

EpoxyResin · 11/04/2017 09:32

Another one who holds their slot with champagne here; the major supermarkets must get this ALL THE TIME.

Why was your husband asleep at that time in the morning if he is looking after the kids?

MirandaWest · 11/04/2017 09:44

To be able to check out (and so make sure you have a slot) with morrisons it needs to be £40 or more. Not sure what other supermarkets are like.

Renaissance2017 · 11/04/2017 10:14

Viques

Do you know from the post how old the kids are, whether they are still in bed or anything to suggest why he shouldn't be in bed?

ElizabethLemon · 11/04/2017 10:21

I do this op, so far I've always remembered to edit the order but I'm sure the day will come when I end up with a huge bottle of champagne and some toilet roll for my weekly shop.

Falconhoof1 · 11/04/2017 12:17

Viques the kids were still in bed too but I've told them to jump on dad when they're up! They're both over 8 so can look after themselves a bit in the morning.

Easily done Grin I always reserve with champagne, never caught out yet You can always hand it over to the delivery driver, for a refund, if you do forget.

reuset · 11/04/2017 16:19

Though I don't think the delivery driver would be best pleased if I forgot. I usually reserve with a couple of bottles of the most expensive champagne and nothing else.

MyOtherNameIsTaken · 11/04/2017 17:00

What an excellent wheeze for buying champagne. "I only was holding the delivery slot... forgot to cancel it and it's here now!"

🍾🍾🍾

TrinityForce · 11/04/2017 17:28

When you get your online shop delivered, you have the choice at the door to reject and get a refund on any item.

That's why she 'expects' her dh to 'sort her fuck up'

Lisa85000 · 11/04/2017 17:33

MY DH would have hated sorting this out for me!!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/04/2017 17:34

We always hold with whisky - DP wouldn't mind at all if I forgot to change it Grin

This is an awesome food ordering fuck up (sweary!)

apotheke · 11/04/2017 17:40

Champagne?! I always chuck in a couple of crates of Diet Coke, some bottles of normal wine and, toilet roll and check out. Even if under £40 with Tesco that works fine and you can amend the basket until 23:45 the night before to get it over £40 and avoid the charge.

treaclesoda · 11/04/2017 18:33

Bemused by this thread. Surely you just hold your slot with whatever you know you always buy (loo roll?), check out, disregarding the minimum basket charge, then go back later and put your order on? They then recalculate the basket and take off the charge.

I've tried this but neither Tesco or Asda have let me. It has to be over £40 or you lose your slot. Presumably to prevent them having loads of people book the slot with a few pounds worth of stuff and then not follow through with an actual £40 order.

reuset · 11/04/2017 18:41

It's just quicker and easier to throw in a couple of bottles of champagne, brings it comfortably to approx the £100 level. I used to throw in giant washing powder, but they're not expensive enough and you need to put in a few.

In fact I need to secure a slot for next week. Grin

DameXanaduBramble · 11/04/2017 19:20

I don't buy the same things religiously each week so a repeat would be no good for to the pp suggesting this. I also hold with champagne.

treaclesoda · 11/04/2017 19:32

Wizard that is strange. I've tried quite a few times and it won't let me. You're right, it must depend where you are or something.

treaclesoda · 11/04/2017 19:32

I have a delivery pass, maybe that makes a difference?

reuset · 11/04/2017 19:34

I have delivery pass too. Sainsbury's though

AmserGwin · 11/04/2017 19:40

I order with Asda most weeks. There is always a slot for the next day here Smile

MrsBartlet · 11/04/2017 21:15

I have two deliveries a week from tesco and always hold them with two bottles of milk. It lets me check out but adds on all the under £40 charges. You can then go on at anytime until the night before your delivery and amend it and it removes the charges once you reach the minimum. Never had a problem with this.
