Help! Any dentists around?

Posting here for traffic because I'm desperate

So a few months ago half my tooth fell out and I was in extreme pain. I booked an emergency dentist appointment and she gave me a temporary filling and told me to come back for a root canal. I had the root canal done a month ago and she re-filled it with another temporary filling until I came back for my next appointment to fill it permanently which is in a couple of weeks.

This afternoon another bit of the tooth came out and now the temporary filling has come out too. I have about a quarter of the tooth left and I'm terrified the pain is going to return and I can't book an appointment tomorrow as it's Sunday.

I'm just wondering if the pain will come back if I've had a root canal or if there's no root is there no pain? Also what will happen now, I'm assuming she can't fill it as more of the tooth has broken off so will it just be extracted?

I'd be so grateful if someone could help

Somewhere in your area there'll be an emergency dentist working tomorrow - probably even tonight. In my area the surgeries all take turns. Thankfully when I was in this position my local surgery was on duty.

Try phoning your dentist or check online?

I'm no dentist ,but surely no root equals no pain,how are you doing?

And if it's emergency the course of treatment will only be about £20! There's usually a dentist on call - I think instructions in my area are to call 111 :)

I'm worried about going to a different dentist though as my current on is really gentle and sympathetic. I'm not in pain atm but scared it's going to come back with a vengeance

No root definitely means no pain! The only thing which could cause discomfort is if you got a piece of food in the hole and it got stuck there for days on end which does seem very unlikely!
There will definitely be an emergency dentist in your area and if you are that worried about an extraction they will send you to the hospital to have it out (my sister is a dental nurse)

I'm a dental nurse with 25 yes experience. Root canal is usually done over 2 appointments, the first appointment, which sounds like you have had, the dentist will clean out as much of the nerve as possible and usually put a dressing in and a temporary filling. On the second appointment they will clean everything out and place the permanent filling. It's not necessarily true that you have no nerve left in there as it depends how much was removed on the first visit, which means you could still experience pain, although it's probably unlikely if it hasn't happened already. Quite often a temporary filling crumbles away but the Base is still present so will usually be OK in the short term. I would ring your regular dentist on Monday for advice. X

I accessed emergency dentist through 111 today and they said they were available all weekend, just incase you do need them

Dentist here! If you have had no pain since the root canal then it's unlikely you will get toothache as no nerve in the tooth. However, you may be better having a crown as a permanent restoration rather than just a filling as this will better protect the remaining tooth long term. This will depend on how much tooth is left. On call dentist worth a call tomorrow although would probably just give phone advice as usually just see for severe pain,swelling, bleeding or trauma. Stick to soft foods away from this tooth, keep cleaning carefully to stop food trapping and phone own dentist on Monday.

You guys are so lucky to have dental work through NHS.

Dental insurance here only covers routine check ups and I'm about to fork over $1500 for a root canal
