AIBU to beg you not to bet on the Grand National? It's animal abuse.

Please think about what you're condoning.

www.independent.co.uk/voices/grand-national-races-animal-cruelty-get-rid-of-dangerous-jump-a7672131.html

"It’s time for the Grand National again – that curious time of year when people who claim to like horses gather to exploit them, often hurting and killing them in the process.

Since 2000, 48 horses have died at the annual festival that the National is part of. Others have suffered horribly with broken backs, necks or legs, severed tendons, or heart attacks. This is the reality of British horse racing."

If you use this as entertainment, the blood of murdered horses is on your hands as well.

Would you bet on a race where human beings fell and broke their legs or necks and had to be shot? At least they would have consented. Horses cannot consent to this life.

Would you be "fine" with it as long as it hadn't happened since 2012, despite horses dying after the race from their injuries since then?

Please don't be dazzled by the so-called glamour of this bloodsport.

OP posts:
TicTacToe12 · 08/04/2017 17:48

@klondikecookie

I will type this slowly.....try to follow....

That was a pledge to donate money 2 years ago.
The pledge could have been to any charity.

It does not prove any of the OPs claims to still give 10% of her income to animal charities.

I still maintain the extent of her activism is whining on the internet and then stropping off "I'm vegan, you're bullies and I'm a victim" when people disagree.

Doodlebug5 · 08/04/2017 17:49

Are you campaigning every day? There are hundreds of horse races a year where the animals get treated exactly the same. Why campaign against just this one?

Nojellyintrifle · 08/04/2017 17:49

No, she was accused of lying by a particularly nasty poster.

Fantastic race, all back safe
BTW my cousin is a jockey, as are my dads cousins, so I do have knowledge of the racing world and personal experience or horses, that's why it frustrates me when people with no knowledge of either post spurious claims

Oh well, you surely are the expert.

You might have been the one called in to the court cases that I was involved with being a witness to last year? You know, the abused and starving ex racers that were dumped.

I do believe that it's to do with intelligence as to how we treat animals, as well as basic emotional intelligence.

You just will never get that with some people.

Much rather have a world full of people like the OP in it than some of the other posters on this thread.

Chloe84 · 08/04/2017 17:50

TicTacToe12 you're splitting hairs. Why not admit it when you're wrong?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/04/2017 17:50

I don't know why posters are talking about the ops spending on charity.

I give around £1000 per year to animal (dog primarily) charities. I'm not against the grand national. Not sure of the relevance.

PollytheDolly · 08/04/2017 17:51

Anyway to lighten the mood a bit. This is my horse playing with a traffic cone. She's allowed to be a horse (my ex racer used to pick a cone up and swing it about in his mouth) also, when retired from racing he was the laziest most laid back sod I've ever come across (because I allowed him to be him) but I'm sure he loved his "career". Pic is my Irish cob (there's another story) she's 24.

AIBU to beg you not to bet on the Grand National? It's animal abuse.
Nojellyintrifle · 08/04/2017 17:52

Doodlebug5 I a man pretty sure that she does, it's because it is a high profile event that some people try to raise awareness.

What do You do to help animals/humans?

Are you interested in discussing the issue or grilling the OP because you think that she should pipe down?

Thattimeofyearagain · 08/04/2017 17:53

Nojelly I at no time claimed to be an expert. Cant you read plain English?

HoldBackTheRain · 08/04/2017 17:54

I agree OP yanbu.

Nojellyintrifle · 08/04/2017 17:54

PollytheDolly I love an Irish cob, we have one that we rescued from some travellers.
The kindest horse despite an awful past.

TicTacToe12 · 08/04/2017 17:54

@Chloe84

Dammit.... I knew I typed too fast..... Smile Smile

CaveMum · 08/04/2017 17:55

For those that are interested, you can find out more information about welfare within British Racing on this website: www.thehorsecomesfirst.com

Verticalvenetianblinds · 08/04/2017 17:56

Firing was barbaric but a treatment they believed worked. Ex racers are some of the safest horses I know. Racing is not a barbaric or cruel sport. Those are my opinions based on working in the industry, not necessarily correct but my opinions.

klondikecookie · 08/04/2017 17:56

TicTacToe12 - if you go re-read the OPs post, very slowly, she doesn't say that she gives 10% of her income to animal charities. She said she gives 10% to charities (seemingly via GiveWhatWeCan), and also gives to animal charities

Nojellyintrifle · 08/04/2017 17:56

Nojelly I at no time claimed to be an expert. Cant you read plain English?

As I said earlier, it's very much about a certain level of intelligence...

Thattimeofyearagain · 08/04/2017 17:57

Which you obviously do not possess.

klondikecookie · 08/04/2017 17:57

I give around £1000 per year to animal (dog primarily) charities. I'm not against the grand national. Not sure of the relevance.
I'm afriad you now need to post evidence of all of your charitable donations, or you're a liar. Grin

MamaHanji · 08/04/2017 17:59

All this taking the piss out of vegan makes people look like a twat. I've never met a vegan who has preached or acted like a twat for being plant based, but the amount of people that go on about vegans being preachy and boring and full of themselves...it's a load of bollocks, you sound like judgey douches.

And YANBU. Horse racing is disgusting.

Nojellyintrifle · 08/04/2017 18:00

*Today 17:57 Thattimeofyearagain

Which you obviously do not possess

Grin no, clearly I could never have your 'knowledge' as your auntie's sister's dog's cousin is a jockey

Chloe84 · 08/04/2017 18:01

Dammit.... I knew I typed too fast.....

It's not your typing you need to worry about TicTacToe

It's your comprehension skills, memory and inability to eat humble pie you should worry about Smile

PollytheDolly · 08/04/2017 18:01

PollytheDolly I love* an Irish cob, we have one that we rescued from some travellers.
The kindest horse despite an awful past.*

Thank you nojelly. She's an absolute sweetheart. Super intelligent and was a bucker, reader and bolter. No one could break her her spirit is that strong.

I can ride her bareback and without a bridle. She will back up with a twitch of my finger. Why? Because I learnt, the hard way, to understand horses.

Many posters on here, no disrespect, know fuck all about horses and horse psychology.

I was told to shoot my horse 10 years ago because of her behaviour.

Yeah, right! Is my answer to that.

PollytheDolly · 08/04/2017 18:02

"*rearer not reader, ugh autocorrect

Thattimeofyearagain · 08/04/2017 18:02

That was about you " certain level of intelligence" quip. HmmBiscuit

TicTacToe12 · 08/04/2017 18:02

@klondikecookie

The actual word the OP used were.....
^I am vegan.
I give 10% of my income to the most effective charities every year even though I am on a low income.
I give to animal charities throughout the year.^

What the OP displayed was:
A pledge to donate money 2 years ago.
A pledge to an unspecified charity.

It does not prove any of the OPs claims to annually give 10% of her income to animal charities.

So, I still maintain my original point, that the extent of her activism is whining on the internet and then stropping off "I'm vegan, you're bullies and I'm a victim" when people disagree.

Majorgoodwinschickenbeatstrump · 08/04/2017 18:03

Those horses are cared for better than most humans. I say this as someone who has took on an ex-racehorse in the past and got experience with racing. Unless you are a vegan who deals with horses everyday and have knowledge of the racing industry, focus your energies about the wrongs in the world on more serious stuff that you actually understand.
