to wash my hair once a week?

Let me firstly just say, I'm aware this is a very non-important thread! But I'm curious to see what the norm is out there is mumsnet land.
I shower every single morning before work. At one point this also involved washing my hair every single morning too. However, I started to leave my hair longer and longer between washes using my trusty dry shampoo spray and low and behold - my hair is bouncy, luscious and so easy to style. Volume a plenty! Whether I smell like a Bob Marley wannabe or not I have no idea, perhaps people are too polite to say Grin
After my hair is washed it's incredibly flat, limp and lifeless and is generally a nightmare to style so I actually hate having to wash it now! But I think I might be starting to take the proverbial for how long I'm leaving it...
How often do you wash your hair? AIB an U dirty scrubber? Blush

I wash mine about once a week. The sulfates and petrochemicals in most shampoos are really bad for your hsir and encourage the overstimulation of oil by stripping your natural ones. So the more you use it, it more your hair will seem to get oily and need washing. Even washing it once a week, I only use a pea size amount of shampoo on the scalp only and mix conditioner 1:5 with warm water to use as leave in (rather than rubbing lots on and thrn washing off 3 mins later). As long as I brush it and sometimes use dry shampoo, it's pretty good between washes.

Nope, yanbu. I only wash mine once a week. I used to wash it every other day but found it was becoming damaged and greasier the more I washed it. Now I was it once, sometimes twice a week with a clay shampoo and conditioner and it's never been in better condition. Mind it is down to my bum, and washing it more than that certainly is a pain the backside!

I have thick, wavy, short day and it's 4 or 5 times a week, for me. At ertain times of the month, it can seem fine at 7pm, so I decide to hold on until the morning to have a shower and wash it, so it doesn't get ruined by being slept in, then by 10pm, it's a stinky oil slick.

I do love perimenopause!

My hair is past my bum and I wash it once a week. I started doing this because of laziness, but it is better for my hair and my septic tank couldn't handle now frequent washes

AnnieAnoniMouse · 11/04/2017 00:33

Daily, I don't feel clean if I haven't washed my hair. Occasionally I'll miss a day if I'm staying home, but I feel a bit grubby, despite still having had a shower. I think my hair looks ok if washed every second day in the cooler months, but I just feel grubby.

Each to their own though.

Wafflenose · 11/04/2017 11:06

Mine is thick, slightly wavy and halfway down my back (just below bra level currently). It usually gets washed every two days, but I sometimes stretch it out to three.

kel1493 · 11/04/2017 11:09

I need to wash mine every 3 days. Otherwise it looks greasy and awful. I have naturally curly hair that goes very frizzy. So I straighten it after every wash. Takes an age to do, but don't have an option really

redjoker · 11/04/2017 11:35

Every three days, my hair loves me for it, not skanky at all, Shampoo companies will try and say so but only to make you BUY BUY BUY

enjoy your lovely new locks!

MrsD28 · 11/04/2017 12:37

amusedbush I can't really do dry shampoo as I can't brush my (fine, curly) hair when it is dry. If I brush my hair when it is dry then I end up with a wispy ball of fluff around my head. On the days when I don't wash my hair I still wet it in order to brush it (then leave it to dry naturally).

Clareel · 11/04/2017 18:39

Once a week here also. Long straight hair usually leave it to dry naturally or will blast it with the hair dryer if I'm in a rush to go out.

I used to wash more frequently, but found the more I washed it the more it needed washing IYSWIM

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 11/04/2017 18:41

I shower and wash my hair every morning - I can't even get my head round people who don't.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 11/04/2017 18:43

And isn't using dry shampoo like covering yourself in perfume instead of having a wash? It just seems gross

spankhurst · 11/04/2017 19:28

Every 2/3 days, it's straight, fine and a few inches past my shoulders. I'd love to wash it less but the roots look gross after 2 days.

foxyloxy78 · 11/04/2017 21:53

Wash it every day

OhSoggyBiscuit · 11/04/2017 23:18

I wash mine once a week on average. After a few days it starts to get a little bit greasy feeling but at least I'm not ruining my hair by washing it everyday.
