to wash my hair once a week?

Let me firstly just say, I'm aware this is a very non-important thread! But I'm curious to see what the norm is out there is mumsnet land.
I shower every single morning before work. At one point this also involved washing my hair every single morning too. However, I started to leave my hair longer and longer between washes using my trusty dry shampoo spray and low and behold - my hair is bouncy, luscious and so easy to style. Volume a plenty! Whether I smell like a Bob Marley wannabe or not I have no idea, perhaps people are too polite to say Grin
After my hair is washed it's incredibly flat, limp and lifeless and is generally a nightmare to style so I actually hate having to wash it now! But I think I might be starting to take the proverbial for how long I'm leaving it...
How often do you wash your hair? AIB an U dirty scrubber? Blush

I wash once a week. Looks brilliant right until I wash it. Not bothered with washing, drying, styling any more than that.

Sometimes I can go longer if am short of time but prefer doing all the drama on a weekend so best to stick to once a week.

Both DDs once a week too. Very think, very long hair for all of us!

ShiftyLookingBadger · 08/04/2017 15:11

Looks like there's a healthy mix of frequent washers and grubby pups like me. I guess my fear is one day someone is going to say “Shifty, your hair stinks, sort your life out!" Otherwise, my hair looks fab on day 5/6!

I get through a fair bit of dry shampoo, but on the other hand think of the water and fuel I'm saving by halving my shower time! I'm practically an eco warrior Wink

Not to mention my hair dryer is gathering dust!

Once a week at most here. I have afro hair though. If I washed it every day it wouldn't forgive me and all I'd be doing is washing and drying and styling my hair! It takes 2-3 hours as it is.

stitchglitched · 08/04/2017 15:28

I used to do mine daily but now I follow the curly girl method. Once a week only now and no shampoo at all. My hair has never looked better!

Redglitter · 08/04/2017 15:33

My hairs shoulder length. It hasn't been washed since Monday because I'm not well - it's driving me nuts. I can't wait to wash it

mirime · 08/04/2017 15:34

I used to wash my hair daily but most shampoos irritate my scalp. I went to once a week but since having DS four years ago its twice a week

Iris65 · 08/04/2017 15:35

I only wash mine once a week too. It is very thick and shoulder. My partner is senstive to smells and if there was any problem he would definately tell me.
Some people do need to wash their hair everyday, my DP is one of them but I also think that social norms have changed partly because manufacturers want to sell more product.

TwattyMcTwatface · 08/04/2017 15:36

Like Happy, I grew up washing mine once a week. I got out the habit when I lived abroad, but retrained it last year - there were a couple of months where it was a bit greasy, but now I leave it a week, and can get away with 2 at a push. Like PP, it's long, very thick and dryish. I honestly don't think it matters if you're comfortable, though - I can honestly say that I never noticed that someone has hair that needs washing.

crazycatgal · 08/04/2017 15:41

Washing your hair daily is actually damaging, leaving your hair a week between washes is probably doing it some good, if your hair is fine with lasting a week then good for you. I normally go 3 days between washes and would love it if my hair would make it a week.

curcur · 08/04/2017 16:36

Once a week for me....thick, curly hair. The more I wash, the more I need to wash it. I gradually worked up to once a week.

sweetcarolines · 08/04/2017 18:30

Yanbu
If I were you I'd leave it as long as possible between washes. I wash mine every other day. My daughter, once a week.. to be honest she could probably go a little longer if she needed to. Her hair is stunning. So long, healthy and strong

stevie69 · 08/04/2017 18:37

I NEVER wash my hair so relax OP, you're fine.

I do shower every day though; absolutely without exception.

Thisismadness · 08/04/2017 18:39

I'd love to leave it longer but I always get something oily into the hairline, face cream or cleanser or whatever. Does dry shampoo deal with that? What's a good one to try that doesn't smell too strong?

Crunchymum · 08/04/2017 18:43

I wash my hair 3-4 times per week and must admit that I only feel "properly" clean on hairwash days despite showering body daily

CremeEggThief · 08/04/2017 18:45

I wash mine with shampoo once a week or even 10 days, but with conditioner every other day. It's fine, dry, very curly and a couple of inches below my shoulders.

spidey66 · 08/04/2017 18:50

Daily, or I don't feel clean. It would feel like going out without cleaning my teeth or something otherwise.

ememem84 · 08/04/2017 18:59

stevie never? Really? Wow. I'm not sure I could do that.

I resorted to dry shampoo this afternoon and am not washing tomorrow because I'm going paddle boarding so will fall in the sea so no point going with clean hair.

stevie69 · 08/04/2017 19:05

ememem84 Yes, honestly Blush

It's short and artistically designed in a myriad of rainbow colours; washing it fades the lovely colour. I just rub soe cocounut oil through ti each morning so that it shines.

Cocklodger · 08/04/2017 19:06

I wash my hair every day however just with water. No shampoo. My hair was greasy and horrible for a week or two but then regulated itself. I still use a small amount of conditioner.

stevie69 · 08/04/2017 19:09

I just rub some coconut oil through it. Bad typing, Stevie gal Blush

topcat2014 · 08/04/2017 19:15

I only use hot water, - granted I had to go down this route because of bad eczema - but, I can honestly say my hair is the nicest it has been for ages - and my head never itches. Tend to wash hair each day, but can miss the odd one.

I haven't told anyone IRL, as they will all think I'm scuzzy.

DW never comments, so I am sure I am doing OK.

Lucked · 08/04/2017 19:25

For me dry shampoo is for emergencies, I dislike the feel and smell so I wouldn't use it regularly otherwise people should wash hair when dirty or greasy be it daily or weekly.

Freyanna · 08/04/2017 19:26

I wash my hair once or twice a week as I have problems with my ears with the shampoo if I do it more often.

My hair seems fine to me.

Havanaclub · 08/04/2017 19:34

Just like OP, shower every day but hair every third day.

When I washed hair every day it was mank.

Now it is great.

And my body is so clean too.
