It just seems to make it into a bit of a joke and really annoyed me. He could go on to rape, who knows? Aibu

So to clarify my point (oh for an edit function) the police have not put the message out there to a large part of the population at all. It's just incomprehensible drivel.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 07/04/2017 10:15

I thought you made your point well SilverDragonfly1 and it's a valid one.

owenjonesismyhero · 07/04/2017 10:15

Its the second paragraph about his 'ardour and afternoon's exercise' which is trying to play down the incident.

YANBU. At all.

MrsPughSingsSleafordMods · 07/04/2017 10:16

The tone of the statement is bizarre, far too informal and jokey. It minimises the behaviour of this man and, whilst I agree man wanking in park might not = potential rapist, it is still a grossly anti-social act which nobody should have to tolerate or be expected to find amusing.

myoriginal3 · 07/04/2017 10:16

moving the problem here is that it is the police that we are dealing with.

OP. Please report this tripe and link to this thread.

As a victim of rape, I find it triggering.

HemiDemiSemiquaver · 07/04/2017 10:19

it's the "ardour" part that bothers me, as sexual crimes are not generally done out of ardour - it seems to dismiss it as "well she was just so tempting and attractive that he naturally felt like that and this was the consequence".

Agreed that it sounds like someone trying too hard to write something that would go viral.

I do think their point is OK, though, that they were trying to reassure someone that it was a man out for the thrill of being caught, rather than someone who was specifically targetting certain people. But it's not expressed well.

TinyRick · 07/04/2017 10:21

FFS. Of course that post was minimising it. Maybe because it's such a common occurance that yet another male takes it upon themselves to whip their dick out in public and wank. Oh! Flashers are funny! No they fucking well aren't. Bet you'd all be frothing if it was a child that had seen it. What's the difference if any member of the public was subjected to it?

Dothehokeykokey · 07/04/2017 10:21

I would say they have written it I. Such a way as to get maximum likes, shares and comments.

The way FB works is if people just read the post but don't engage with it the chances of people seeing their future posts on their news feeds are reduced. For many pages less than 10% of the people who "like" the page ever get shown the posts.

Posts that are interacted with make the page a useful resource. Posts that people just read mean that ultimately the page might as well not exist

myoriginal3 · 07/04/2017 10:21

Their point is not ok.

The way I read it is, 'nothing to see here, just a man being a man'.

ARumWithAView · 07/04/2017 10:23

And YY to what SilverDragonfly1 said about this being borderline incomprehensible to anyone who speaks English as a second language, unless they're very advanced or fluent. All the euphemisms and 'hilarious' overwritten waffling make it very difficult to understand. I'm really surprised anyone in the Met would think this was appropriate.

MetalMidget · 07/04/2017 10:23

Fucking hell, it's a bit twee and jaunty to be a warning about a sex offender. It's like they've looked at the Isle of Scilly police's page and decided to mimic it, but instead of stories about cats and seagulls they've gone straight to sex crimes. What next? I can't imagine them saying, "It was probably a one off" about any other crime.

And yes, the spelling and grammar is awful.

myoriginal3 · 07/04/2017 10:24

Put it this way. If I was a wanker, I'd be rubbing my sweaty palms together reading this. Mwahahahahaha. The police won't mind! I'm just enjoying myself.

Cunts.

Can you tell I'm not a police fan today?

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 07/04/2017 10:24

I'm not sure what you trying to explain to me myoriginal3 Confused

I think I've been quite clear in my points and my understanding of the situation.

myoriginal3 · 07/04/2017 10:27

You are asking for the police to deal with the police.

That ain't happening.

TinyRick · 07/04/2017 10:29

Dothehokey That makes it worse. So that is now going to be seen by more people and all it does is reinforce the normalising of men asserting their fetishes upon unsuspecting members of the public and as pp said, continue with the 'just a man being a man' rhetoric.

LordScuttlebutt · 07/04/2017 10:29

It the way the police in a Carry On film would deal with it.

LordScuttlebutt · 07/04/2017 10:29

*It's ffs

highinthesky · 07/04/2017 10:30

Its the second paragraph about his 'ardour and afternoon's exercise' which is trying to play down the incident.

Exactly, could have been written by the Poet Laureate!

AldrinJustice · 07/04/2017 10:30

Is it real - as in you screen shot it yourself from the official police's Facebook page? Or a screenshot that's been passed around from friend to friend? A lot of fake stuff on the internet these days

GahBuggerit · 07/04/2017 10:30

I think they have worded it like that to try and diffuse the situation in case anyone fancies turning vigilante, but they have still indicated they are treating it serious by asking people to pass any information on.

Im on the fence a bit i guess.

Christ the grammar and spelling... atrocious

AnyFucker · 07/04/2017 10:35

The tone of that is far too minimising

Didyoumeantobesorude1 · 07/04/2017 10:37

YANBU. Completely unsuitable response.

WillowKnicks · 07/04/2017 10:37

YANBU

When i was a teenager... way back in the 1980s i had to walk passed a park to get in to town & very, very regularly there was a guy in the bushes, wanking, right where I had to walk next to. I once heard him following me in the bushes to get to his prime spot in all his sodding glory!! Creepy & vile!

My parents called the police & were told "oh he's not doing anyone any harm". I was talking to my Mum the other day about it & how it would be taken seriously now but sadly it doesn't seem as if the police have evolved much with their thinkingHmm
