Is this a threat?

Name changed.

I just said to someone "Please don't make things more difficult, I've done what we agreed".

There response was:
"Oh I could make things very difficult for you". With the emphasis being on could.

They had raised their voice during the conversation but I can't remember if it was before or after this comment. I feel really shaken up.

Op have they given u your medication?

Veiledusername · 06/04/2017 19:45

Kali Yes. I have a 28 prescription, I have to see them face-to-face before that finishes.

kali110 · 06/04/2017 19:46

Good, glad you got it.
I would be complaining op!
If your uni weren't so accommodating then where would you be?
Sounds like this doc has fucked up massively!

kali110 · 06/04/2017 19:47

I'm also confused about why he has to sign you fit to go back to uni?
Is this normal?
I've never had this, and i've been signed off with m/h issues.

Veiledusername · 06/04/2017 19:55

Kali It's normal in our university (they claim it is because of insurance purposes)

I don't know if other universities do it.

OP posts:
WildwestWind · 06/04/2017 20:13

So you've been going to uni as normal but were stopped from using the library Confused

Veiledusername · 06/04/2017 20:24

Wild Yes. I thought it was my swipe card being dud and didn't want to pay for a new one just to enter the library (rarely), It didn't seem worth the ten pounds...

It is a little scary how much I have been able to do as an unregistered student. I sat an assessment in January!

OP posts:
Floggingmolly · 06/04/2017 20:55

You weren't unregistered; you were signed off sick for a month Hmm.
What sort of university is this?

user1486924355 · 06/04/2017 20:58

Sounds very much like a threat to me.

Veiledusername · 06/04/2017 21:46

Flog, not sure how it works elsewhere, over three weeks we have our student status "interrupted" here. Anything less than a week we don't need any health documentation though.

OP posts:
Veiledusername · 07/04/2017 15:52

Received a written apology from the GP today. Hadn't raised anything with them, the surgery or anyone else (was going to see how I felt on Monday).

OP posts:
Floggingmolly · 07/04/2017 16:01

Then what were they apologising for? Do you imagine someone else complained on your behalf?!

Veiledusername · 07/04/2017 16:05

Flogging No, no one else complained. They apologised for being "angry unnecessarily". They thought that I had done something, but having had the situation clarified by someone else they realised they were mistaken...

I am putting it down to a bad day / possible muddle up with another patient / possible student starting rumours (we have one in our year and this is a repeated issue).

OP posts:
ProlificPoster · 07/04/2017 17:07

They apologised for being "angry unnecessarily"

Say what??

That's weird. Was that the actual words used?

Floggingmolly · 07/04/2017 17:57

What did they think you'd done? And who decided to intercede for you to clarify things? All sounds totally unbelievable very odd indeed.

Veiledusername · 07/04/2017 18:09

No idea what I am meant to have done. The letter doesn't say. I guess it was sent immediately after the phone conversation though as I received it today.

OP posts:
kali110 · 07/04/2017 21:52

Or maybe they are in trouble because of their massive balls up with your uni?
Why are ypu not complaining about that?
I'd complaim about your whole shocking treatment!
Keep that letter!!

SignOnTheWindow · 07/04/2017 23:18

I don't understand why some people are dismissing this.

The whole situation could send someone with MH issues over the edge. A few months ago, something like this could have ended up with me jumping off a bridge.

The GP sounds unprofessional and irresponsible. For the OP to basically have to beg for the repeat prescription for AD medication is actually fucking appalling. A three week cold turkey from ADs could make someone pretty ill.

Well done for standing your ground OP. I hope you manage to get things sorted. Flowers

kali110 · 07/04/2017 23:48

SignOnTheWindowi agree with you! I have had a break down! I have anxiety attacks if i can't get any of my meds.

IsangforLadyArcher · 08/04/2017 00:07

This is odd. why would a GP write a letter? surely they'd just phone about the 'misunderstanding' - not dropping themselves in it.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 08/04/2017 15:41

Sounds like there has been a massive cock up which is entirely the GPS fault, hence the letter. The threatening behaviour is completely unacceptable, and it's heartening that they've apologized.

I don't think you should leave it there though, as it leaves too many questions unanswered.

What did they think you had done that they would decide that it was appropriate to threaten you in a wholly unprofessional manner? And threatening to 'make life difficult for you' by someone in such a high position of power, power over your health and your university course, is a deeply unpleasant and threatening thing to do.

You need to know what they had decided you had done, as you need to be able to defend yourself against this, and also have it sorted out rather than have some accusation floating around the gp practice unresolved and likely to raise its head at any point in the future.

You need to know what processes or behaviour they have changed in order that this doesn't happen again.

I actually think you aren't reacting enough to the way this gp practice has cocked up repeatedly. You need to protect yourself a bit I think, by complaining and questioning what they are doing to ensure both fuck ups never happen again. You can do this in a nice way, you don't have to get angry or accusing, in fact it's better if you don't show those feelings, but they clearly need to change the standard of care they are providing you.

If your thought about someone on your course bitching and stirring is what happened, this is completely shocking and unacceptable. Listening to unsubstantiated gossip from another student and letting that somehow be treated as fact and the basis for the way they changed their treatment of you... that would be completely unprofessional and unacceptable.

If you can bring yourself to take this further, I think it would really help you. To make sure this never happens again, and to 'clear your name' and insist they clear your name in any notes or formal and informal perceptions of you. And to show that you need a much higher standard of care towards you, as they've seriously messed up twice this academic year... once could be a mistake, twice is very concerning and brings into question what the hell they are doing!

Sorry about the tone, I'm angry on your behalf!
