AIBU to get the popcorn out for the discussion of why this is/is not a great judgment?

@jakeyboy1 What a very strange thing to think - anyone who has a legitimate reason that they can't take holidays at the right time are considered. Nobody is interested in the kind of job they do.

sniggy01 · 12/04/2017 23:33

@jakeyboy1
Apologies for not taking earlier post seriously - thought you were joking about the Easter bunny.

Jakeyboy1 · 12/04/2017 23:38

@sniggy01 reaction said it all really!

I survived school only because of the long summer holidays. It took me at least a week at the start to take off the 'armour' I needed to wear at school in order to survive, and another week at the end of the holidays to redevelop it in time for the return. As it was, I had seriously overdosed twice while only in primary.

There are many children for whom the only time they might be even slightly happy is bang in the middle of 6 paltry wekes they get in the summer, away from school

School can be a nightmare for quite a few kids, and I can only see those numbers increasing. Keep the long summer holiday. Give kids a chance to be kids.

Also, why do police get special dispensation? All companies try to stagger employees holidays, so why them in particular?

sniggy01 · 13/04/2017 22:53

I haven't read every post @Jux but when I posted that service people get holidays I meant army/marines etc - as they are often away for long periods of time. Not aware police would get the same.
So sad to learn you had such a bad time at school.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 13/04/2017 23:07

jux

Its because crime doesn't take a holiday (channels batman)

Police can have their holiday cancelled within reason, i think thats the reason

DrasticAction · 13/04/2017 23:52

Not read thread but I suppose being of supreme court these people if they have DC are not short of a bob nor are they sending their dc to basic comps?

They probably have private/[ublic school hols which means more weeks than us plebs and even if not - plenty of ££ to get their dc enriched by valuable holidays abroad.

In short I am sorry but I doubt they have a clue People moan about little englanders - and naval gazing brits well now we have cut off millions of families from ever making the journey from these shores, except for the rich because decisions like this never ever affects them.

Dannythechampion · 14/04/2017 14:55

The Supreme Court don't make decisions based on empathy or whatever, the post above is a load of crap.

They make the decision regarding the law and its interpretation.

MsGameandWatch · 14/04/2017 15:15

Agree drastic.

Dannythechampion · 14/04/2017 15:19

Emotive and counterfactual rubbish.

I rather think that was all the navel-gazing little Englanders who voted for us to leave the EU, not the judges of the Supreme Court defending children's educations. You got what you wanted so just stop complaining.

Dannythechampion · 14/04/2017 15:34

But yes, Naval Gazing Little Englanders are exactly the type that expect the rules to apply all the time to everyone else, except for them when they deem fit.

Yorkshirebetty · 14/04/2017 21:33

The school can be inspected and put on special measures if the attendance is deemed to be low. Over 800,000 cases last year, some schools hit worse than others.
