To pay £32 for a bra for my 13 year old!

tireddotcom72 · 06/04/2017 08:54

I don't actually have much choice as my large chested 13 year old is now a 28F! It's hereditary we all are large chested in our family. But she is still growing at Xmas she was a dd and bras on the high street don't go that size so off to bravissimo and 2 bras purchased. This week I noticed she is bursting out of them back to bravissimo and now a 28F! 2 bras purchased at £32 each! And they aren't attractive when you are 13 and want pretty bras your flat chested friends buy in primark! I wish I could pay primark prices.

And now getting upset about bikinis for summer as she realises all the ones she likes that her friends wear are not going to fit. She is going to have to get a (her words) horrible old lady one like you have to wear!

I would stick with Bravissimo. With the amount of support needed for a chest that size and the fact that she is still growing, I wouldn't buy a Primark bra for you child.

tireddotcom72 · 06/04/2017 09:28

Thank you worraliberty.

Definitely not a troll but hey if I'm livening up someone's morning trying to prove I'm am well let them get on with it.

Some shops will refund you the VAT if you contact them with proof the bra is for a child. A friend did this at M & S a few years ago.

Aimtomisbehave · 06/04/2017 09:28

OP, largecuplingerie.com do some lovely and pretty things in small band sizes and often have sales on (30FF here). Not quite Primark prices but they are not bad

WorraLiberty · 06/04/2017 09:29

To be fair, there have been some sick fuckers posting about teens the last couple of days.

But really, that's what AS is for.

tireddotcom72 · 06/04/2017 09:31

wouldn't buy a Primark bra for you child.

I wouldn't buy primark for me! One wash and they lose all the support they are designed to look pretty on the hangers or small chested people!

I picked up a 28dd in there yesterday then put it quickly back - heavily padded to make you look 2 sizes bigger! Why would a DD want to look any bigger? Or perhaps the Katie price look is in?

tireddotcom72 · 06/04/2017 09:34

I know I have to pay for the bras the same way I pay for her shoes it's just an essential.

Really should tell her dad to increase the maintenance the costs for a teen are way more than a baby!

Mimi Holliday do small back sizes and large cups, they adjust the styles slightly but they are still very pretty, more than £32 though, but you can get them on eBay unused much cheaper. My friend is the same size as your daughter and was practically in tears going round selfridges looking at the ugly bras in her size until we discovered Mimi!

hellejuice91 · 06/04/2017 09:38

Primark go up to G and you can get a pack of 2 for £9

TriJo · 06/04/2017 09:40

For bikinis she doesn't need to be super strict on sizing - she could probably get away with a 30E or even a 32DD that runs tight. Try everything on though.

Check the sales on Figleaves too - 28 bands tend to be left in the sale stock at times!

misscarlar · 06/04/2017 09:42

hellejuice not in a 28 back though ( or not that I have ever seen

To the op - make sure they are looked after hand washed and dried flat

PollyPerky · 06/04/2017 09:42

Look at Figleaves and John Lewis for 28 inch back. Might be something cheaper that £32.

PollyPerky · 06/04/2017 09:45

J Lewis Online currently have a 28F Freya bra in the sale for £15 - it's pretty blue /black design.

DottyDonna · 06/04/2017 09:46

There is small business that sells ALL sizes of underwear at quite a reasonable price, great quality and last for ages. They sell some of the same brands as bravissimo but much cheaper too.

I stumbled on them whilst looking for something bolster the puppies without having to pay an arm and a leg.

They're Called "Bellwren"

UppityHumpty · 06/04/2017 09:46

Primark's sizes run small. I'm a 34 DD everywhere else but have to wear a 30 EE or F at Primark so I doubt your daughter will get anything to fit her cups.

Some tailors are able to make band sizes smaller if the cups fit. Zip Yard etc. Might be cheaper than paying £32

Sairelou · 06/04/2017 09:47

Brastop.com is the way to go, or there is an eBay store (lingerieoutletstore) which sells discontinued lines.

Exploretheunexplored23 · 06/04/2017 09:48

I feel your fustration! I remember being large chested at 13 too and it was awful. Now a 30K and I find ebay a fab place for underwear, usually 10-15 pounds a bra. Not used stuff either there is absolutely loads of outlet shops on ebay for bras. Thats where we larger chested folk can come out ahead sometimes as the good quality stuff in odd sizes gets reduced and doesnt sell much whereas the regular sizes are gone straight away.

Also if you have an outlet village near you, many of them have a triumph shop in and they do some unusual sizes too, picked up a few bras for a fiver each in there before.

Very fustrating having to spend that money on a decent bra but so important!

Hope this helps and best of luck

KatharinaRosalie · 06/04/2017 09:48

As someone said before - ebay. Especially once you figure out what brands and models fit her, and a lot of sellers also accept returns.

No need to stop wearing pretty bikinis either, and she will find she will get a lot more support from a properly sized one. I remember how thrilled I was when I first got a proper cup size bikini and could actually run around on the beach, without boobs wobbling all over the place or falling out of the top.

I don't object to buying her bras but £32 each!

I'd pay whatever it took to have her feeling comfy and pretty at a time in her life when it really does matter.

Someone previously mentioned a husband marching out of a shop saying M&S next time - I'd be telling him to go and get lost.

I wouldn't advise anyone to buy a bra without proper fitting, especially in the larger sizes. You can get away with sport bras, but the poor girl should be comfortable and have underwear that fit perfectly.

Increasinglymiddleaged · 06/04/2017 09:52

Of course yanbu

If she needs expensive bras to feel comfortable then I'd just feel bloody lucky that I could afford it.

I have one of those 2-sizes bigger Primark bras. It is fab and a fraction of the price of others. I bought it to go under a lowish cut dress. I'm not a DD though Grin or anywhere near, even in Primark.

Summerisdone · 06/04/2017 09:55

I thought you were going to say about how your 13 year old had still not developed much in the breast department and therefore you didn't want to pay £32 for a bra that did little more than look pretty because she was wanting a certain brand.
But your DD is already rather large and the more expensive bra is a necessity rather than a nice to have, so yeah YABU to not want to pay £32 for her to have a decent firing bra.
I'm not as large as you DD but I'm still big enough to struggle finding my cup size in places such as Primark or H&M so I have to shop in Ann Summers or Victoria's Secrets to find a bra that will fit me well and still look pretty, with a good fitting large bra you have to be willing to pay the prices.

NewPantsforaNewYear · 06/04/2017 10:04

As PPs have said Brastop is your way forward. They've got 28Fs starting at £9.95 for leopard print, £12.95 for neon pink, etc.

Order a load and send back the ones that are no good.

They do swimwear too.

PagingDrKarl · 06/04/2017 10:06

Sympathy for you and your dd. I was (and am) the same.So difficult with a small back size. But another advocate here for brastop.com (also for swimwear), and also Debenham's sales: they can have v pretty bras like Freya for less than half price.

And be on the ball for sales on brastop and bravissimo re: lingerie -- she can get stocked up for next year!

PagingDrKarl · 06/04/2017 10:07

Sorry newpants, cross-post (slow connection)
