to ask if this was rude thing for stranger to say about DH?

Over the last 2 years, DH has often been mistaken for being a certain theatre singer. It's probably happened about 15-20 times - usually if we're out in Soho, but also on holiday in NYC. I must admit, I had never heard of this singer, but I have now. It is usually groups of Korean or Japanese women who approach him and often they either don't understand / don't accept that he is not who they think he is and just take photos or selfies anyway Hmm A few times he has signed "autographs" with a squiggle just to get away and out of the crowd.

Tonight we were leaving a restaurant and five Korean ladies asked DH if he was this person. They did speak quite good English and accepted that he is not, but one of them whispered to me that only some people have doubles and if DH ever sees or meets "the other one" then it's bad luck and "the end". I know this is ridiculous to post about, but the way she said it and looked at me has unnerved me for some reason. I'm not superstitious, but she has given me the creeps. Can I ask if anyone else has a so-called "double" and has anyone ever heard of anything like this at all?

This post has clearly been set up by Ramin Karimloo's agent Grin

Boynamedsue · 05/04/2017 21:03

Just googled, I'm calling massive stealth boast (it has totally worked and I'm jealous OP Grin)

OlennasWimple · 05/04/2017 21:03

Rude, but perhaps something was lost in translation / cultural differences? Anyway, nothing to dwell on

ShatnersBassoon · 05/04/2017 21:04

I wonder why someone who's only worked on the stage has become so recognisable, and why would Asians particularly recognise him? I've never heard of him, and I have a passing interest in musical theatre ie I've seen Miss Saigon and I think Michael Ball is charming.

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/04/2017 21:05

I was also thinking stealth boast. He's gorgeous!

pseud0 · 05/04/2017 21:07

I don't think he looks exactly like him obviously, it depends on the hair / beard. People in the U.K don't go on about it either. It's Japanese and Koreans. Thankyou for the doppelgänger link, it's very weird, but did anything bad ever happen to anyone in history?

Yes my DP is a double for someone in public eye (just reality TV show but quite a well known one) people had whispered mostly but one time walked in a restaurant and the waiters got all giddy and rushes over to get him a table, gushing over him basically. He finds it funny.

lazyarse123 · 05/04/2017 21:10

You are one lucky lady. I have to ask does he resemble him with his shirt off? No idea about the doppelganger thing.

Didyoumeantobesorude1 · 05/04/2017 21:10

People in my school brought a girl to meet me who they swore was my doppelgänger. She was a year younger I think. Anyway, I'm still here 55 years later. Don't know about her however.
Seriously, ALL superstition is utter shite. Forget it.

cansu · 05/04/2017 21:11

Just googled. Lovely!

Phantom of the Opera fans will know exactly who Ramin is. He is very well known for his portrayal of Phantom and is considered by most to be the best ever. Personally I prefer the current Phantom Grin

Boynamedsue · 05/04/2017 21:15

I'd just enjoy him while you can! Seriously the doppelganger stuff is as real as unicorns. If your OH is as lovely in mind as he is, apparently(!), in body then make the most of it and pay no mind to some randomer. (A real life one that is, you can pay mind to this randomer Grin)

SaltySalt · 05/04/2017 21:16

Ramin is gonna be wondering why he's had so many internet hits Grin

bruffin · 05/04/2017 21:16

Love Ramin Karimloo, he was also 25th anniversary Phantom, he has a lovely voice

The woman gripped my hands and I know it sounds stupid but I felt like if anyone could put a curse in you it would be her. I'm not one for Wooo, but her face has stuck with me and I wish I never met her.

What the hell are you doing walking around Soho, why are you outside of the bedroom with hottie? Get back on there women.

ninecoronas · 05/04/2017 21:22

I met my doppelganger about fifteen years ago. She lived in New Zealand but I knew some of her UK friends and they used to go on and on about how we looked identical. One day she came back to visit so of course they had to get us together...we spent a good hour or so just touching each other's faces and laughing! It was so odd sitting next to each other and catching a glimpse sideways...like passing a mirror.

Anyway, 15 years down the line and we're both still going strong although thanks to kids, cake and haircuts the resemblance is not

pseud0 · 05/04/2017 21:24

acorn - Grin Obviously I think DH is gorgeous, but I doubt he'd have Korean women chasing him if it wasn't for this singer in the theatre.

ememem84 · 05/04/2017 21:32

Nice work op. Hes a hottie.

TheCuriousOwl · 05/04/2017 21:33

I read your OP and knew instantly who you meant before you confirmed it and it made me giggle. He's in NYC right now just so you know so your DH can avoid him Wink

mrsBeverleygoldberg · 05/04/2017 21:39

When I was little about 5, I met a girl in town who was so like me I could have been looking in a mirror. She even had the same poncho (outing how old I am,) and trousers as me, but I wasn't wearing them. My dad saw her and she was with her dad. I worried about seeing my double would have sinister consequences! I wonder if my dad had an affair now. My mum used to tell me he was when I was a teenager...

pseud0 · 05/04/2017 21:43

Where does the idea that seeing your double is sinister come from though? Its obviously more likely these days with TV and the internet. Does everyone have a double somewhere?

OP posts:
Amandahugandkisses · 05/04/2017 21:46

Who the hell is that?

ohtheholidays · 05/04/2017 21:47

I'd take no notice.

My DH looks like a very loved famous actor,I honestly don't notice but lots of other people do,people have even argued with him before that he must be that person lol.

My ex husband looked alot like Tom Cruise, that used to get lots of double takes and young girls trying to take pictures and asking for his autograph but again until someone pointed it out to me I hadn't noticed.

IlPorcupinoNilSodomyEst · 05/04/2017 21:48

I beeped and waved at someone who was the absolute double of a friend recently - had to wind my window down and apologise immediately! She was the spitting image, same type of clothes, same walk, way of looking down at her phone ... Was really weird.

Have also seen the double of my sister, also while I was in the car and she was crossing the road ... Maybe my car is Woo.
