Who would own a driverless car?

Not a AIBU but a spin off from another thread on here.

I would have a driverless car only if:

  1. I could drive it manually when I wanted to.
  2. I could legally send it to pick up people, drive its self home or drive my drunk bum home.
  3. It looked like a normal car. The Google car looks like a woodlouse

I suppose it's a matter of control. People make mistakes. So do computers - due to programming or technical issues.

At some point the computer will be more reliable than a human. Would people relinquish control and put their faith in a computer?

If it was definitely proven to be as safe or (preferably) safer than any other car then yes I would love a driverless car.
That's because I don't drive, I started my lessons the year before I got pregnant with DS and I just had no confidence behind the wheel even though I was quite capable, as I was told so by two separate instructors.

Now I wish I had persevered and took my test because being a single parent who doesn't drive is a nightmare at times.
