Never heard of Felicia Day. Actress, Singer?

reuset · 05/04/2017 22:48

And in a modern class full of Niamhs, Ifeoluwas, Heulwens and (if they're very unlucky) Boglarkas, she'll be fine.

Full? Grin These names, aside from Niamh, are very little used in the UK.

YesThisIsMe · 05/04/2017 22:51

I'm in London Grin

ComradeHelveticaBlack · 05/04/2017 23:03

Actress on Supernatural

reuset · 05/04/2017 23:09

I'm in London grin

They'd have to all be in London, then, to get a class full. It is possible I suppose Grin

Ah an actress! Thank you.

Ancienchateau · 05/04/2017 23:13

I have a DD with this name but we spell it with a K. She is known by her nickname which is also a very popular name in Greece. It comes from the Greek words for beauty and voice.

Suze1621 · 05/04/2017 23:14

Really! Ha ha!

AtSea1979 · 05/04/2017 23:16

Cally-what? No sorry just don't get it. Never heard of it. Maybe if I'd watched the same programmes I'd feel differently. But will these programmes be around in 10 or 20 years when people are still trying to pronounce it?

JayneAusten · 05/04/2017 23:19

I would say 'Cally Ope' (like Cally Hope). I don't like it, sorry.

thecatfromjapan · 05/04/2017 23:26

I like it - but I like Calypso more.

Calypso sounds like the woman the amateur male detective in a 30s detective novel would have a crush on. She'd be studying at the Slade, have a bob, advanced views, a wonderful painting technique and an incisive turn of phrase.

Davros · 05/04/2017 23:33

I think it is pretentious and ugly/clunky. Can't believe so many people think it is pretty!

LovelyHandcream · 05/04/2017 23:35

It's beautiful. I know one, who is now a lovely bright kind grown up, which makes me like that name even more.

With almost every name, there will be someone who can't pronounce or remember it or finds a way to turn it into a mean nickname. You can't ever rule that out. So don't not choose the name you love Smile

Toddlerteaplease · 05/04/2017 23:36

I thought it was calipo as in the ice lollies.

ageingrunner · 05/04/2017 23:38

I like it and would know how to say it. Also like Calypso, it reminds me of The Chamomile Lawn.

YesThisIsMe · 05/04/2017 23:41

Greys Anatomy may be lost in the mists of time in twenty years time, but the name dates back at least 2,700 years and I don't think Ovid and Hesiod will have been forgotten completely by 2037.

Batgirlspants · 05/04/2017 23:45

He will be called pee at high school obviously but all kids, especially boys, have nick names so why not

Ellieboolou27 · 05/04/2017 23:46

Rhymes too much with dopey, sounds like melon, so, no I wouldn't but you can

Batgirlspants · 05/04/2017 23:48

Just to add had two teen boys and two teen girls and all had nick names Grin

DebiNewberry · 05/04/2017 23:51

So pretty

Littledidsheknow · 06/04/2017 00:09

Sorry, sounds ugly, clunky and pretentious to me.

And, as others have said, reminiscent of talipes, callipo lollies, cannelloni, calipers, canteloupes, and a horse going clip clop.

KittyWindbag · 06/04/2017 00:18

It's a beautiful name, it's not difficult to pronounce at all and can be shortened to Callie. I have an acquaintance who named their daughter Calliope, it's sweet.

The thing about people not being able to spell it, in my experience people make a song and dance about spelling my extremely common and easy to spell name. It's not enough of an issue to base your choice upon.

HelenaGWells · 06/04/2017 00:19

I was going to say Felicia day just used it. I wouldn't use it personally but I don't find it offensive. Callie is a lovely nickname.

kimann · 06/04/2017 00:21

People might mistakenly hear cantaloupe Confused

thecatfromjapan · 06/04/2017 00:31

I'm not getting this melon/cantaloupe thing. It sounds nothing like cantaloupe. It has four syllables, the rhythm is different and the absence of the middle 't' and internal rhyme radically distinguishes it. I'm guessing the people who think it sounds like cantaloupe think it is visually similar (initial 'c' and final 'pe').

Goldfishjane · 06/04/2017 00:31

Kiman, anyone stupid enough to hear cal-y-oh-pee as cantaloupe isn't worth knowing anyway.

Maddie, no one is going to tell you their DC name if it's forrin, that's your only objection?

Also, I was born in England but guess what, I learnt to spell my own name. Wtf is with some of these posters?
