DD and friends want to go but I'm trying to put them off. Will they end up queuing for hours & end up on only 3 rides all day? Have any of you been recently?
I just think it will be a waste of a day. AIBU?

Hope your dd has a lovely day op Smile

thecat nearly all accidents are needless and unavoidable but thry will still happen even with the best controls and planning in charge that's why insurance is necessary to help pick up the peices if the worst happens.

Just leaving was brilliant no queues at all today....think we beat the rush

maddiemookins16mum · 05/04/2017 18:42

The Merlin group accepted liability very early on for the awful Smiler incident and have been very supportive of their victims.

Although Alton towers refuses to let upper arm amputees on the Smiler on the basis "they can't climb down a ladder if the ride gets, stuck".
If you're in a wheelchair they ask if you're able to and take your word for it, if you're missing your hand, they don't give you a chance.
Friend's dd was ordered off the ride last year. I can assure anyone that she would be far more capable of climbing down a ladder than me and probably more capable Tha half the people that go on it.
Kind of ironic really in a sick sort of way.

I went yesterday, got on every ride and the longest queue we had was 20 mins. Brilliant day

Babyroobs · 05/04/2017 21:34

My son and his gf went last sunday.. They got some kind of special deal with O2 priority and it cost £25. They got in early access, so 30mins before general public and fast track for 2 hours from 10-12. They said they didn't queue long for any of the main rides.

bangingmyheadoffabrickwall · 05/04/2017 21:37

I went on the last Sunday before the children went back to school in September (3rd or something last year)

We were able to get on every ride. Queued no more than 30 mins and we managed to get on the Smiler in 10 minutes because we were standing right outside when they opened it up! (Took 10 minutes just to get through all the barriers!)

In fact, we managed to get on some rides several times.

We went Halloween once in 2009 and 2010 and the longest we queued for was 70 minutes.

We try to go at the end of the summer season or on a cool, cloudy, showery day when people tend to stay away.

I always say September is best - after the six weeks holiday, everyone spent up and back to school (although closed Mondays, Tuesdays and I think Wednesdays)

maddiemookins16mum · 05/04/2017 22:01

Witchend.....really? They are damned if they do, damned if they don't!!

KlondikeBar · 05/04/2017 22:12

It's so unpredictable. We went on a very sunny Saturday a few years back, during the middle of the school holidays, and barely had to queue at all. Nemesis had a 15 min queue which was by far the longest. We could walk straight onto most rides.

mylittlephoney · 06/04/2017 01:03

capricorn what a cuntish thing to say. The park has been going for decades and has never had a serious accident untill the smiler. That was human error. Your more likely to be killed on your way to an amusement park then at it. Love AT can't wait to go again

nutmegella · 06/04/2017 08:17

We went yesterday and the longest queue was 5 minutes so the girls went on all the rides (some more than once). The only downside was that the park shut at 4pm and we thought 5pm would have been better.

elodie2000 · 12/04/2017 09:30

Well, it was brilliant! They got a £20 fast track ticket for the afternoon but it was a luxury rather than a necessity as they went on all the big rides 2/3 times each!
Queues were 10 mins max and small rides had no queue at all!
Reminded me of the '80s when the park was quieter and you could go on ride after ride easily!
Brilliant!
