Ok settle an argument please! DP and I disagree on whether or not I should be eating Branston pickle with my current meal. I have it and he says it doesn't go!

So...what do you eat Branston with?

I'm betting him that this meal is in the first 10 different responses. Don't let me down! Grin

Cheese sandwich
Ham sandwich
Salads
Anything cold really
I don't think it's nice warm

BrieAndChilli · 03/04/2017 20:13

Jacket potatoes and cheese

blamethecat · 03/04/2017 20:13

Monday night was always cold meat and chips with pickle when I was at home. Otherwise it goes with ploughman's.

llangennith · 03/04/2017 20:14

Cold meat, cheese. I love Branston and would add it to most meals.

Whyiseverynameinuse · 03/04/2017 20:15

Beef burger - my sister started me off in her teensGrin

iago · 03/04/2017 20:16

Meatloaf, cheese, ham, any cold meat eg roast beef, pork, poultry.

PotatoesPastaAndBread · 03/04/2017 20:16

Bloody hell, going to have to buy some now! Mmmmmm. Literally salivating!

Gazelda · 03/04/2017 20:17

Boxing Day turkey, pickled onions, cauliflower cheese, mashed potato.

Sylvannas · 03/04/2017 20:18

I often eat it out the jar. When I'm not being a Branston Pickle weirdo however I'll have it with ploughman's, a fry up, any meal with chips, meat and salad dishes...Basically anything other than spag bol and curry Grin

Mmm makes me think of one of my favourite poem by Mandy Coe

Go To Bed With a Cheese and Pickle Sandwich
It is life enhancing.
It doesn't chat you up.
You have to make it.

A cheese and pickle sandwich
is never disappointing.
You don't lie there thinking:
Am I too fat?
Too fertile?
Too insecure?

Your thoughts are clear,
your choices simple:
to cut it in half
or not to cut it in half,
how thin to slice the cheese
and where you should place the pickle.

From a cheese and pickle sandwich
you do not expect flowers,
poems and acts of adoration.
You expect what you get:
cheese... and pickle.

You want, you eat,
and afterwards you have eaten.
No lying awake resentful,
listening to it snore.

Safe snacks.
It comes recommended.

Cheese or cold meat. Definitely nothing hot.

Grilledaubergines · 03/04/2017 20:30

Quiche

Cheese

Ham

Salad

Sausage

TheElephantofSurprise · 03/04/2017 20:32

Hummus and crispbread. Branston transforms it to food of the gods.

JustWhat · 03/04/2017 20:33

Hmmm...it has KIND of been mentioned but he says he's won the argument! I had it with shepherds pie and cauliflower cheese! And mighty delicious it was too! Grin

Ham or cheese sarnies

redshoeblueshoe · 03/04/2017 20:37

I'm with your DH, love it with chips and left over roast dinner

GreyHare · 03/04/2017 20:39

Nothing as it is the work of the Devil.

ohdoadoodoo · 03/04/2017 20:40

Branston Pickle on a poached egg and toast is to die for.

HerBluebiro · 03/04/2017 20:43

Nope. Your dh is correct. It does not go with either of those. At a push perhaps pickled cabbage with shepherds pie. But never Branston pickle.

But more worrying.... did you have cauliflower cheese with shepherds pie? Surely they are separate meals. Maybe just maybe cauliflower cheese as a side dish to a roast dinner in a Toby carvery type place. But never a side to shepherds pie and definitely not with Branston pickle.

Just so wrong

TizzyDongue · 03/04/2017 20:43

Yes that's wrong. Very wrong. Are you an eccentric sort or should we call a doctor?

LilaoftheGreenwood · 03/04/2017 20:44

Hmm, you have both won, I would not have pickle with shepherds pie but I WOULD have mayonnaise with it because mayonnaise is my go-to thing, as I suspect pickle is for you. So I sympathise with your craving, and your DP probably has one too, but technically most people prob wouldn't have pickle with shepherds pie.

adjusts arse on fence

littlemissneela · 03/04/2017 20:46

I was gong to say I've just eaten it with steak pie Smile I also eat it with shepherds pie.

MrsJayy · 03/04/2017 20:47

I had some yesterday with a chicken dinner dont knock anything till you try it. Dh eats it with shepherds pie.

poisonedbypen · 03/04/2017 20:49

I came on to say Shepherd's pie! DH swears by it. Mind you he eats branston on toast like you would eat jam.

MrsJayy · 03/04/2017 20:49
