1hour!!! Had a accident at work yesterday and had to go to the local A&E department.
It took 10 minutes to see a triage nurse who said I needed to see the doctor.

I settled in for the long wait. Snacks, drink, book.
I was treated and home 1 hour later.
Everyone I have seen today has seemed shocked I wasn't there for at least 4hours.

Aibu to think this kind of wonderful caring efficient service is giving the NHS a bad name??

Its all about timing - go 30 mins after schools out or just after tea time and it'll be 6 hrs

Wonderful! My mom fell and broke her arm last week - my dad took her to the local A+E and she said that staff outnumbered casualties
She was home within an hour too. I guess she was lucky that it was a quiet time.

You must return immediatly and demand they make you wait a further 3 hours.
Damn efficient medical staff humph!

I personally think that a 6 hour wait for a free at point of use professional A&E service for a non life threatening condition is also acceptable.

It might not be convenient.
It might not even be necessary if things were run better (possibly)
But it is acceptable.

1hour?! I don't think I've ever been seen in under 4 hours. Even when my DD was in agony and vomiting almost constantly because of kidney stones. And when I had a trapped umbilical hernia and was practically on the floor with the pain. I'd have been well pleased to be seen within an hour but unfortunately the staff were too busy with all the drunks

I had to take DD recently, we were in and out in under an hour too. It was a weekday morning with no big emergencies coming in though but I can't fault the staff, especially the triage nurse who was so kind and calmed me down when I was a sobbing mess.

They were all so lovely.
When I gave my details at reception she asked if I would like to change them as I hadn't been since 1991 and was down on the system as a student 😀

Completely depends on the time you go I think.

Dh and I were there for him a couple of months ago. He had a bad cut to his hand which had gotten infected...he went to the ooo GP at 7pm who sent him straight to A&E due to red lines creeping up to his wrist. Suspected early sepsis/blood poisoning.

It took two hours for triage by which point the red tracks were up to his elbow. Triage nurse told him not to expect to go home as it was serious and he'd need IV antib's to prevent full sepsis. We sat back in the waiting room for the next four hours watching the red tracks climb slowly up to his armpit and over his shoulder. I was a bag of nerves and expecting him to keel over at any minute, it was a bloody awful wait for something that can apparently be life threatening within a couple of hours.

It's a national disgrace. DS fractured his arm and the next day I took him to A&E on a Saturday morning after he'd moaned lightly for 12 hours.

Well! First I can tell you I could see the co,our of the plastic chairs as they were all empty. Then he was triaged, X rayed and plastered so fast I didn't even get a chance to go to Costa.

We were home within 2 Dodd g hours which meant DH got to do all the things he'd planned to do, instead of being massively put out.

I complained. Not least because we'd been there so short a time I didn't have change small enough for the parking machine.

It is all going to shit.

I went to the GP this week and the receptionist apologised profusely that they were running late, did I mind waiting.

I hadn't even selected my magazine and got comfy before I was called in.

4 minutes late.

Shit, I tell you.

Ds ended up there this week. He was seen, checked, bloods and various tests done within ten minutes of arrival. Not on, is it.

11hrs I was in the other day
They were v good, I was a bit bemused by the people with seemingly minor things as there's an urgent care desk right next to the a&e and that was a 10 min wait. I went via them and got sent to a&e dammit

Radiographers are often on-call so they would have been at home (if nearby) or in bed somewhere in the hospital :)

I was just very grateful that they did! Although there did seem to be a lot of "OW" at the results and offers of vast pain relief. Which I took

YANBU to mention the good care you received. I had the same a couple of years ago, again in the middle of the morning on a weekday.

The last 3 times Ive been to A & E, all the same hospital, Ive never been there more than an hour,
40 minutes for a broken foot was the quickest, and 61 minutes for a broken elbow, the longest.
I always email to say thanks as they get such bad press

Shocking

Although I do confess I had to take my dd a few weeks ago (on advice of the GP at the Walk in, where we'd gone to avoid clogging up A&E ) and, after initial interrogation (by a nurse) on arrival, we too settled in for a good read, and got called within 50mins! Nothing life threatening - no blood, no cardiac arrest, no breathing difficulties. Shocking I tell you, just shocking.

I used to be an A&E nurse. I can tell you we loved a cup final or really heavy and prolonged rain. Either of these meant we could pretty much expect to sit there twiddling our fingers!

You must have gone at the right time op!

If you go with a dc with a broken bone in half term, you will be there for a good 5 hours. I speak from experience.
