My DD is 8 months and has just fallen forward and smashed her forehead onto the ledge of a wooden toy!

There is an instant lump and bluish bruise, literally instant! She cried for a few seconds but she won't let me put a cold compress on her. She's wrestled me and I feel I'm making her worse.

She's playing on the floor now. I am so upset I feel like th worst mum in the world SadSadSadSadSad

Yes welcome to the bump club! We have all done it, I reiterate what other say. So long as:

  • bump is firm
  • baby is normal self
  • no excessive vomiting
  • no unusual drowsiness
  • bump goes out not in (dent)

Then all is likely fine, just keep an extra eye out, but most likely fine.

The only time my gp was concerned about mine was when she fell into corner of a table and it left a dent in her temple, turned blue but stayed as a dent rather than bump. She was completely fine, but he asked to see her in 3 hours to check himself. Better out than in with bumps it seems!
