17... and this is his neatest! His teacher is trying her best to not pull her hair out. This is his writing AFTER having to stay in at break to make it neater ConfusedBlush

I joined just to say that is definitely not messy - if your son is thinking about studying maths at degree level then he'll likely be using a document editor for assignments anyway.

LaTex is a good one to look up, it's free and widely used.

This is definitely an attempt at a stealth boast.

Yes OP, your son is very clever. Is that what you wanted to hear?

If that's a mess you your standards then tbh I'd hate to have to meet your standards.

I'm a maths teacher and that is lovely! Not messy and if I got that to mark I'd be pleased!!

Regardless of my poor way of introducing myslef, if the OP or anyone else is concerned with presentation then LaTex or even the equation editor in MS Word would be good for assignments.

Over reaction, much?! It's neat & he's 17, not a child. You should back off.

Can any of the maths teachers in this thread please comment on the accuracy of the maths?

I think we've covered the fact that it's not messy.

Grin at it being a stealth boast... No... DS is doing pure maths so it's not further he is doing C1, C2 and FP1. He's doing that and 1 other a-level, so hardly a stealth boast is it?

As a maths teacher I would LOVE it if my messy books were that tidy!!!

I struggle to follow some students work - that I would be fine with.

Why are you encoraging people you dont know online to judge at laugh at your sons work...

I have very messy handwriting. Find hard to stay on lines. Mix upper and lower case letters. And my spellings poor.

But you know what never once in my adult life has someone pulled me up on this. I have a good career starting in corperate company and have rescently started my own extremely sucessful business.

Id have been devistated if someone had wrote me off as a kid for my messy hand writing and would never of achieved what I have.

StarUtopia
1 digit per box is very junior school! When you have 1cm squares you can fit it in but when you get into 5mm squares it's all a bit squashed (which makes it unreadable). For my a-level/degree we had to provide our own paper so all my maths post-16 was on lined paper (we were given graph paper for graphing at college).
Anyway op- yabu. I've been teaching 15 years and that's pretty good.

This can't be real. No one would say that was messy work, never mind slag off their own kid on line and take a picture of their work, post it and lie about the teacher posting their hair out. And he's 17.

Hmm

I've just been thinking about this again. Your DS is 17 and in 6th form. Why was he told to stay in at break to redo work just because it was messy.
At that age I didn't see my DDs books and they would have not been told to redo work at break time.
